Theoractically, Seamus, the items there would be sturdier than they seem :O The cold actually freezes and preserves some of the grass oils used to make rope, so... Yeah, their effectivity isn't really weakened like how them movies 'proclaim' them to be :O I wouldn't believe too many things on television if I were you, or it'd really be Bad News Bears for you.

@COZYTW the cold in that cave is probably sub-zero, so the items would be more brittle because of the cold. the ropes wouldn't even uncoil when picked up since the oils and water in them would be solid. but its a video game, and they aren't going to let something like low temperatures stop the game dead in its tracks.

The rope may be brittle, but remember two things, one, the water and oil content is significantly small in rope, and 2, they're holding it, so the oils and crystalline snow melt while they handle it, causing the rope to moisten ever so slightly, but enough to strengthen it. I'm not talking about it being sturdy. I'm talking about it being sturdier THAN IT SEEMS.

IT'S A GAME. and handling frozen ropes would only sap warmth from the hands, not melt the ice and oils. you've clrealy not handled ropes in low temperatures. the atmospheric temperature would be low enough to lower the hands' temperatures so they wouldn't be much help melting ice anyways.
