to everyone who's talking shit about carlos santana. keep this in mind Al said himself that carlos was an early inspiration for him because santana was the first to put latin percussion into rock. I love Al but hate his personality, my dad's friend knows him told me some stories that makes him sound like the biggest douche in the world. Also santana is almost 70 now, children respect your elders =p
NY Daily News: Al Di Meola got three gold albums, but guitar virtuoso Al Di Meola doesn't want to pay a penny in child support for his 8-year old son, Kyle. Di Meola allegedly has visited his son only once, according to the boy's mother, Magda Barreca. Di Meola Productions rakes in millions but he claimed to have a salary of $49,000 in Family Court & defaulted on his $122 per week payments. Di Meola - has a $1,147,000 Colonial mansion in N.J., a condo in Miami, Land Rover & Mercedes SL 600.
Rolling Stone Mag., has never heard DiMeola. Can you believe it? They regard JH as the best guitarist , all time. What a crock. I guess that they don't even rate AL.
@hwck7714 Rolling Stones magazine is a piece of shit. If you want to look for good music and the best of what music offers there's plenty of artists of very talented artist who play for the love of music not for money and are 100X better than what you see on the Rolling Stones or on television.
@Josh350 You must not have understood. I also regard Rolling Stone Mag. as a piece of crap. As well as J Hendrix which they rated as the best. What a crock. I do know where to hear the good and serious musicians which yes are not in it for the money.
Can you compare Santana to DiMeola? I dont thnk so. Carlos plays well for not being musically trained like AL. Carlos just plays all from the heart and has some technical chops. But Al went to Berklee. That speaks alot right there. Al is very precise in his playing. I always say you judge a guitar player how much LESS distortion he uses. I respect both Carlos & AL. Remember Carlos was playing way back there in the 60's. He is a grea player in hs own right.
When I imagine the face of Senor Mouse, even though he is clearly fictitious, I imagine the keyboard players face. He just strikes me as the mouse type...
The Prs does not sound right...tinny sounding. He needs his les Paul back! I think it has his balls attached to it. When he starts playing it again he'll have his balls back and play like the man once again.
Al rocks the PRS great tone but I like the Les Pauls better in Al's hands. He must really like these guitars because he plays the quite a bit now. Very fat sound.
Al is just technically incredible! He is fun to watch play. Was watching Steve Vai earlier. Both of these guys are something else! If you dont get inspired to play music by watching Steve or Al? You got to be kidding me! WOW!
I can't understand how negative criticism can so easily be applied to one such as this. He is among the most accomplished in the world. I started listening to him in 1975, 36 years ago and he was amazing then. I thank him for those countless hours As for this piece, you know he's not reading sheet music to remember Senor Mouse, Instead, he's arranged something old to keep it new. Classical, no? It's his band, but he makes everybody shine. The whole is greater than the sum of its parts. PEACE!
Carlos Santana can carry my nutsack. Every time he opens his mouth I think he needs slapped. Not by me, personally, but the urge is there. What an ignorant individual.
@Daim0th I so disagree. In fact I'm surprised to here this opinion expressed. He's a fantastic guitarist. He loses himself in the music as much if not more so than any guitarist I've ever heard. Recent stuff sucks but listen to "caravanserai". One of the best albums ever recorded IMHC.
@edshift . I agree, classy guitar work on all. I consider AL Di one of the best guitarist around many similar to him. These type of musicians are serious about their art, if I may say. The " Caravaserai" album was a superb album, (Santana of course). For one album from more than 30 yrs ago, it remains a class of its own.
I have been a fan of di Meola since high school (early 90s) and though I have yet to see him concert, I get captivated by the live streams online as well as his music which spans for almost 40 years.
56 Y.O. and this cat ain't missed a beat yet! Al di Meola ATW!
BTW, I'm one of the MILLIONS of fans AND he's the only one that I know of that could perform a Chick Corea composition and TOP THE ORIGINAL!
Yesterday I saw him live in Funchal Jazz, Madeira Island... it was beautiful... the best concert I've ever heard, and i'm sure it is the best i'll ever hear.
Saw this line up on their first or second gig together....dropping sections, missing parts....VERY rough around the edges....he was even yelling at Gumbi onstage!
Looks like they got it together, tho'!!
I was looking for clips from this to see if I'd buy it,,,,,.thanks for the post!
I don't care that there are a million D'meola fans; All I care is the fact there ARE millions of D'meola fans. This guy inspired me to play my Les Paul the way it was meat to be played.
@hartistry1957 I feel the exact same way. The first time I say him was at one of the private night concerts at the NAMM show in Anaheim in the 80's. EVH, Satriani and George Lynch were in the audience and at one point all three of them stood up and their mouths were gaped open. I knew then I was seeing something special. Al definately inspired me to play better and with more feeling.
This is because will ppl like Satriani are still fiddling around with straightforward diatonic harmony Di Meola is incorporating a lot of different harmonic ideas from other cultures.
i totally respect your opinion on music...just sayin that so we dont become the cliche people on youtube who diss each other...cause i got nothing but respect for you....but come on!!! santana rules!!!!! peace and love to ya!!! hahaha...i'm a lameass

You could spend a lifetime learning how to play this, and you just might get it right. However, I challenge anyone to write something that has 1/2 the integriy and longevity this quaint little peice of music has. For that matter write anything anyone wants to hear. I dare ya!
