Sorry, I own both the original N95 and an iPhone 3G and I have to say, the iPhone is alot better to use. I'm not an apple fanboy, in fact I've mostly used Nokias and been happy with them.
The original iPhone was pretty poor, but a 3G one running on the 2.1 software is incredible. The range of apps now really make the iPhone amazing. VNC clients for example are easy to use and very handy. I just wish it had N95 camera/vid camera. It's all it's really lacking.
Not even close. Have you used them side by side. The only thing this phone and it's predecessors have on the iPhone is that camera. I was very impressed with the camera on the Nokia N series. Functionality, GUI, attention to detail and future potential aren't even close to iPhones.
Oh, and iPhone could do with better navigation. iPhone GPS is alot better than N-series, but I can run TomTom on an N95 which you can't on an iPhone.

Funny...Nokia def has with the N96 on hardware a more high tech phone than the iPhone (except the touch screen) -> DVB-H tuner, 5 MP camera, AD2P bluetooth etc. But the iPhone excels in the software and user friendliness, and that's what you use the most..

Also, N96 has its meanings - the introduction of broadcasting television in europe, you can do some research about it.
btw, touch screen technology is PRIMITIVE, you've got that right. If you look at the world leading mobile manufacturers, like DoCoMo, Vodafone, Au by KDDI, softBank, you'll find NO touch screen, because they are simply the hardest and most inconvenient feature that a 3.2inch screen mobile would have. 2.0megapixel camera on the iphone is next to a VGA camera, so I don't hav to comment about that. fixed battery + memory also kills you, and the bluetooth..well, guess you've heard it by now.
N96's broadcasting television function will be very useful compare to iphone. Under the condition that both support b/g wireless internet, N96 is a much better phone, hardware, software, user-friendliness, and future potentials.
But the broadcastin television IS originated in Japan, I think it's almost out for about one-two years now, and most cellphones support it. If you guys are really passionate about cellphones, you can check out softbank's 920 series, DoCoMo's 905 series, the technology, user-friendliness and fxn/network functions are much advanced than N96. For example I own a P905i, from panasonic. The screen itself is said to be better than a psp screen, you can also play psp games on it.
Like ridge racers and even gundam series. The screen is WVGA 3.0inch, integrated VIERRA technology from panasonic (the thing they use on their HD1080 TVs, similar to AQUOS from sharp and BRAVIA from sony), 5.1 mega pixel camera, gorgeous look, userfriendly and lots of other interesting functions such as FeLiCa, pushtalk etc. It works under GSM/3G environment. I love the 905 series, each phone from 905 has its unique features. Guys interested should check them out!!!

SGOLD only adds HSDPA + 3G (possibly WCDMA), but it can't cover the convenience of having a fully functioning bluetooth and broadcasting television, I don't see why you put them together in one sentence.
About the touchscreen vs. plastic buttons, again, plastic buttons are more convenient, fast, altho, yea touch screen is "cool". Most mobile users hav recognized plastic buttons over touchscreen cuz they hav felt the inconvenience, and that makes it primitive compare to buttons.
Pull out your 32G iphone on the road to switch a song. OR, simply press a button on the N96 in the pocket.

Adding applications is very convenient, cuz you get bored of the same old fxns of the iphone, unless you can get a unlocked iphone from chinese that allows you to install apps. in iphone as well. But even that is nowhere near an S60 platform.
maybe its class leading innovations would do it. or the largest screen in the industry. or the first cellphone with countless innovations that many other phones have since ripped off. or its superior build quality, and 2 yr warranty. most manufacturers offer none.
aside from the fact that its literally a laptop in your palm, the iPhone is a full service computer, complete with the most powerful OS on the planet, mac OS X.
are you implying that you would watch TV on the road? as I said before, a cellphone with TV is utterly useless to me for many reasons. And one would have to have a serious addiction to TV to find purpose for such an innovation, in which case you're probably not "out on the road" much to begin with.

I'm a huge nokia fan. I have never used any mobile besides nokia. But considering the new Iphone 3g costs only $199, don't you think it would be better going for that? Obviously the n96 supports better hardware, but is the hardware worth the $600 gap? What does this phone have that makes it worth $600 than the Iphone?

btw, iPhone 2.0 (out June 14th) comes with Infineon's SGOLD3H chipset, which is 5MP for camera, video call conferencing, and considerably more capabilities. The old iPhone (current one) uses SGOLD2 which was suitable for what apple intended in a device, but when you have the world expecting you to be 78 devices in one, it simply wasn't enough.

these so called "rumors" are as confirmed as you can get, and as official as any talk you hear about the N96. the problem is that fact makes you look stupid, so you dont want it to have validity.
that's all there is to it.
if you like the N96, no problem. I see why some people might, but for me and I feel the audience at large this phone isn't worth the money when a lower cost product does more. and, in my opinion, looks better doing it.
as an fyi, the 32GB iphone's price point is $599 usd.

the iPhone can do things the N96 couldn't even dream of. On top of that fact, the 32GB iPhone is 3.5G network, has more storage and more features than the N96, has a far bigger screen and has a MUCH slimmer profile. Still not convinced? the iPhone IS STILL LESS MONEY!!
the 32 GB iPhone uses Infineon's Vo-WLAN/GSM 3.5G chipset which SHITS on anything on the market.

Dude, if you really understand the difference between iphone and N95/N96, you will ask the question in reverse: why on earth would anyone want iphone over this?
S60 is a much more flexible system, plus all the hardware+software features, iphone is just a piece of block with more enhanced (compare to the AVERAGE, NOT N96)features that are not at all useful in daily life. Also, N96 has its meanings - the introduction of broadcasting television in europe, you can do some research about it.

btw, touch screen technology is PRIMITIVE, you've got that right. If you look at the world leading mobile manufacturers, like DoCoMo, Vodafone, Au by KDDI, softBank, you'll find NO touch screen, because they are simply the hardest and most inconvenient feature that a 3.2inch screen mobile would have. 2.0megapixel camera on the iphone is next to a VGA camera, so I don't hav to comment about that. fixed battery + memory also kills you, and the bluetooth..well, guess you've heard it by now.

N96's broadcasting television function will be very useful compare to iphone. Under the condition that both support b/g wireless internet, N96 is a much better phone, hardware, software, user-friendliness, and future potentials.

But the broadcastin television IS originated in Japan, I think it's almost out for about one-two years now, and most cellphones support it. If you guys are really passionate about cellphones, you can check out softbank's 920 series, DoCoMo's 905 series, the technology, user-friendliness and fxn/network functions are much advanced than N96. For example I own a P905i, from panasonic. The screen itself is said to be better than a psp screen, you can also play psp games on it.

Like ridge racers and even gundam series. The screen is WVGA 3.0inch, integrated VIERRA technology from panasonic (the thing they use on their HD1080 TVs, similar to AQUOS from sharp and BRAVIA from sony), 5.1 mega pixel camera, gorgeous look, userfriendly and lots of other interesting functions such as FeLiCa, pushtalk etc. It works under GSM/3G environment. I love the 905 series, each phone from 905 has its unique features. Guys interested should check them out!!!

The SGOLD/SGOLD3H chipset is used both for applications as well as networking (GSM +HSDPA), which does serve the function of a processor but not as good as two separate chips in the N96. In terms of the hardware N96 is better than the iphone and equivalent if not better than that of the iphone2. If you understand how batteries are charged through the phone, you will know how bad it is to the machine aside from inconvience.

SGOLD only adds HSDPA + 3G (possibly WCDMA), but it can't cover the convenience of having a fully functioning bluetooth and broadcasting television, I don't see why you put them together in one sentence.
About the touchscreen vs. plastic buttons, again, plastic buttons are more convenient, fast, altho, yea touch screen is "cool". Most mobile users hav recognized plastic buttons over touchscreen cuz they hav felt the inconvenience, and that makes it primitive compare to buttons.

What can you do with a iphone on the road? But you can watch TV anywhere with N96.
Adding applications is very convenient, cuz you get bored of the same old fxns of the iphone, unless you can get a unlocked iphone from chinese that allows you to install apps. in iphone as well. But even that is nowhere near an S60 platform.

are you implying that you would watch TV on the road? as I said before, a cellphone with TV is utterly useless to me for many reasons. And one would have to have a serious addiction to TV to find purpose for such an innovation, in which case you're probably not "out on the road" much to begin with.
and you can do many things with an iPhone on the road, like get turn by turn directions, find a restaurant, check stocks even post on youtube.

first of all I dont see how you say touchscreen is primitive, especially when not one previous manufacturer had implemented it properly, so I'll drop that rediculous argument right off the bat.
secondly, TV on a cellphone is of absolutely zero use to me so its not a feature that'd I'd actually spend money on. especially when the feature is not even available in the US yet. that's effectively spending $300 on nothing. and for the record the iPhone streams TV shows to you via iTunes.

Touch screen, again, I compared how convenient it is to hav plastic buttons than to have touch screen. About the OS X being the most powerful system: it is customized for Iphone, so obviously its not as good as the OS X for mac. The thing about mac OS is that it has a lot of functions (powerful, as you've said), but no infrastructure. With more than 95% of those fxns ripped away by apple, OS X on iphone is no better than a simple symbian - just another so-called "innovation" from apple.

largest screen (only 3.5), but only QVGA, compare to the WVGA vierra high-def screen on my P905, its nothing. P905iTV from japan also has a 3.5 screen, but again, its WVGA. What you should know is that the screen size has almost no effect on the technology that it carries, but rather the RESOLUTION. in other words, iphone's 3.5 is shit.
