  • Another all time fave :)

    Sorry about his self-loss though.

  • Takes us back to 1961 - How time flys. To all we knew

  • He drank heavily, until he joined A.A. in 1979. His hit "Runaway" enjoyed renewed popularity as the theme to the 1986 TV series "Crime Story.." on February 8, 1990, he shot himself in the head with a .22 caliber rifle. His wife thought his death might have been related to his recent use of the prescription drug Prozac.

  • Watching American Graffiti right now and loving all of the old music...

  • PARA LA HETERNIDAD Y DE ESAS FORMA NUNCA MORIRAS

  • Viva Del Shannon!!!

  • Always been a fan of Del Shannon. I got to know most of his songs as a young kid but no YouTube or Internet to hear his live concerts then. I still love his music today. It's timeless.

  • his falsetto is amazing!!

  • Two words: Crime Story. Best theme song ever!!!!

  • @greenbeaverfilms Never seen it, what's it about? I can remember Del Shannon from the sixties, is that a bad thing? You see Del do this in the sixties and it was mostly mimed but this is how I will remember him. One of th best live performers ever. I used to watch him on Solid Gold and I couldn't almost beleive how electrifying he was.

  • @zapkvr Crime Story was an 80's TV show made by the creators of Miami Vice. It was a detective show set in the 60's. It was like Miami Vice in Chicago (an later Las Vegas), in the 60's. This song was the show's theme song and it featured Del Shannon in the opening sequence. A music video was released containing clips from the show. It was the first time I had heard this song and if just blew me away. Awesome stuff.

  • @greenbeaverfilms I loved that show and the cast of Dennis Farina , Tony Dennison , Bill Smitrovich , Steve Ryan , Paul Butler ( younger brother of Jerry Butler ) , Johnny Santucci , and Darlane Fleugal . These people were actually unknown and later a few of them went on to bigger and better roles . I liked the whole idea of Mike Torello chasing down Ray Luca from Chicago to las Vegas and doing whatever it took to get him . It could have lasted if the series stayed in Chicago longer .

  • waaa waa waa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • i love the midget at 2.30

  • old people in crowd dancing. ...i dig it.

  • ISSO SIM É MUSICA!!!

  • RIP Del

  • DRAMATICO, ESTA CANCION ES INMORTAL, ver a gente de hace 50 años bailando esta cancion y ver a gente bailando la misma cancion 50 años despues no tiene precio,

  • RIP Dale.

Gone so many years now! You are missed.

  • A great song from a great time in music, I feel so sorry for the young one's nowadays, they just don't know great music. I am so glad I lived through the GREATEST tim of music. Music nowadys SUCKS. R.A.P. SAHIT is not music, it is filled with violence and hatred. Bring by the REAL music that took your HEART.

  • Thanks for uploading,Very much enjoyed !!!!...long live music, Tazz

  • Táncolni kéne a zene meg csak jött valahonnan.......

  • WHY DID HE HAVE TO BLOW HIMSELF AWAY? SO SO SAD

  • People of the 80s dancing to the 60s. A mind-blower! Initially I thought wow, he looks great then I saw 1988 show. I don't want to know about now. Great song. An eternal classic of rock!

  • got 2 luv him this song still gives me a boner

  • Crime Story

  • @rumvodkaf1 I don't think so!

  • sadly ...suicide, no ?

  • Thanks for uploading. I always karaoke sing this song whenever I have a chance and it makes other guests happy & enjoy that they clapped their hands along.

  • The legend will never burn out.

  • the good thing about most new music is that it really makes us appreciate this real music.

  • The man went way too soon. Thx for posting.

  • this is GREAT!!!!

  • very groovy :P

  • I like the way all the people are wearing thick glasses have short grandma haircuts and those hideous unflattering grandma blouses! Yet, inside the soul is buried and opened up by the music. Wish most older people could reach back and let it out more often.

  • @archiejakeamberspud

I saw your link on you tube you left around 3 years back. I remeber Del Shannon in Melton. What happened to the venue the painted lady? By the way, I think I have a few pictures somewhere

  • I love this song so much!

    Thanks for posting it Reine!

It's before my time and not my typical genre of music, but I think it's one of the greatest songs of all time. I've been enamoured with this song since the TV show "Crime Story" with Dennis Farina back in my high school days.

  • love it thank you

  • GREAT TIMES, GREAT PEOPLE, MAKE GREAT SONGS & SINGERS!

  • love this song

  • Very good song

  • Give me The old 60's and 70' any day. Lord knows the mess most are listening to today is awful.

  • Going on 55 August 26th 2011, I remember boogie woogyan to this song, my parents would laugh..later became a professional Dancer, my beginnings, Thank you so much <3

  • just rock and rolllll

  • Yea so sad @ MrRonnieG, Del had it going on tho, he was going to be the next Traveling Wilbury, but his depression from Zoloft killed him I believe, Damn depression drugs anyways,,, Lost an icon over them....

  • @PerryMarlin I think it was Prozac Del was taking at the time of his death.I've gone over constantly on how Del must've been feeling when he sadly took his own life.I'm currently in a similar position,I know why am I writing this?what do people on youtube care?I know it's true so sad the pain is so horrific so sorry to say people.

  • @strke69 Depression?

  • @lostsoleful Yeh depression I'm not going so well at all sorry I'm not expecting people on youtube to care.

  • @strke69 Probably not, generally, because there are a lot of young people on YouTube. Older people are more responsible and DO care but YouTube probably isn't the best place to find sympathetic, understanding people. I was very depressed two years ago but am now well.

  • @lostsoleful Thank you for your understanding I know Youtube can give you very mixed messages from people I guess.I don't mean to come on here for attention seeking or something,I guess you just try and reach out I think.

  • Two years after this was filmed (1990) Del decided he was tired of trying to chase the memories of 1961 and he killed himself.

  • it a good song but when its your real life descibed to every detail it ant so happy to live makes me a bucket of water.my girl runs away every summer now for 4 years..the guy looks young still.. the grammas in crowd look like the girls tryin to pic kme up when im only 44

  • in the 60s they could sing not so today

  • wow, awesome

  • Is this filmed in Miami the late 80´s ? I love it.

  • Runaway was the first record I ever bought, I became a big fan of Del Shannon, bought all of his records. I saw him at the Birmingham Town Hall, in the UK (Not Birmingham Alabama)

  • RIP Del, you put out some great music that stands the test of time.

  • give this vid 10 stars

  • espectacular!!!

  • Absolutely love this song!

  • I Love This Song

  • Having played in rock bands most of the 60's this is one we always got request for. I played keyboards and lead singer and loved singing this song. I meet my wife in college she was drummer in another rock band we have now been maried 42 years what a great life we have had. At 63 this is still great music. May the Lost Generation and Silencers 5 rock forever. REMEMBER ROCK AND ROLL FOREVER

  • @stillrockinat61 thats awesome!!

  • I saw him at "Waterfalls Stage" at Ontario Place in Toronto, I sat front table 30 feet from him drinking a jug of beer with my sister. We looked around, and the crowd was on the small side.

Del started singing and by the time he got to his last song, which was runaway, I looked around and the place was packed, people were dancing on the tables and in the aisles, that was over twenty five years ago, and an experience I will never forget. Thanks for the memories Del, rest in piece

  • There was a movie ( series) about Las Vegas and this song was the main theme ... I can't remember the name of the movie ... but we watched it as kids in Yugoslawia , .

  • Those elderly folks are out of control! Is that a mosh pit?

  • Nice Audio

  • He killed himself in my neighbor's house. Such a great artist. RIP

  • @michellekwan483 Sad.. honest trivia, he is my great uncle, my dads uncle. He never received much compensation for this hit due to bad contract he signed when he was young desperate for a career. He never quite claimed another hit like this and the depression got worse. He was prescribed Prozac (?), which ironically sent him over the edge instead of helping

It's just heart warming and throat tingling to hear the excitment knowing you are gonna listen to this song, "Without doo wop there would be no hip hop" Is what my father taught me, this is music, not rap crap. I have a few rap songs, but I WAS BORN with this! :D God bless oldies but goodies and doo wop!!!

  • @mcowboys1 runaway was written by Del Shannon and Max Crook (keyboard player) in 1961, went to number 1 in the U.S. and the U.K.

  • @mcowboys1

    Del Shannon is original autor.

  • @mcowboys1 Del Shannon wrote this song!

  • @mcowboys1 It was written by Shannon and keyboardist Max Crook, from wikipedia

  • @mcowboys1

  • To były czasy, prawdziwa muzyka :)

  • I remember this from when the days were good when i was 8 and my parents were listening to it in the car. I'm now 14, life is shit, almost all nostalgic music depresses me, but, at least i've the good music unlike this new shit everyone seems to be loving.

Dell Shannon always did one of the best shows a Little Darlins

  • Great song!

  • Bruno Mars sang this song on a Konzert in Berlin ♥

  • My time great

  • Hey LadyDisDesire! Yep, I am going to be 70 this year! And I can still rock n roll better than when I was going to the Y dances in the 1950's into the 60's! I have had my problems in life, but the music of our generation has brightened many a day!

  • I was looking for some footage of Del Shannon that wasn't old footage. He really performed this song so very well. Love this song and so very sorry he's gone...RIP Del. Thank you so much for sharing this clip.

  • im 44 and this song is still unreal, with all the crap these days, this song still is the best to listen to.

  • Still as fresh today as 50yrs ago and still better than most of todays rubbish.

Am i really 65 ? - not when i shut my eyes and listen to this.

  • @erbasdog2 awesome :) I remember listening to this when I was about 3 or 4 on my parents record player. I think we played it until it wore out. A shame we dont have music these days, just mega-corporate garbage media made for mindless masses to zone out to.

  • @erbasdog2 well said

  • @mrswren64 I want to run away..but where am I gonna go?

  • @FrancescaGianna .come to me!

  • @urbanocity who ru? lol

  • This song came out when I was in 7th grade, 1960-61, have heard absolutely countless times and love as much now as the first time I heard it. And understand and appreciate the great TALENT and MUSICIANSHIP of the singers from this period. Anybody think people will be looking back on Ludacris and other "artists" from today in 50 yrs with fondness and a belief in their musical gifts? As is said, "Don't make me laugh!!"

  • @DavesCarWash I wish I was born around the time you were. It seems as if great music was playing

everywhere back then; on the radio, on the TV, in people's homes.

Nowadays we get "music" tainted with the greedy claws of so called music producers. If you want to hear good music today, you'd have to look long and hard for it.

Another reason why I was born way too late: I didn't even get a CHANCE to see Bob Marley play! Unfortunately he died 11 years before I was conceived...

  • Goes back a while - still a great song to listen. I grew up with this unforgettable music*****

    Karlheinz

  • My favourite song by Del Shannon. In fact one of the best songs of all time, in my opinion. How good was he live? he sounds amazing here! It is sad to think that he died just two years after this performance. Such a great talent! Thanks for uploading this.

  • oh the memories just listening to this

  • excellent trop bon

  • Coopersville, Michigan....represent haha

  • amazing :)

  • jaja, the 60s and 70s produced the best music of all times besides classical music

  • @Ja14111948

I agree and on this Thanks day we are and were blessed by this Talent and his music and this is on of my favorite songs forever i shall live!

  • You can't beat a good rave up :-)

  • はるか昔 あの時に 戻りたい いい思い出が いっぱい。

  • @yutakaification sweet memories, im 23

  • Awesome song!

  • Look at them old people dance

  • @AndyMac1369

One day you will be old too, if you live long enough. At what age should people stop enjoying themselves?

  • @Soi6Fan Never said anything about how old people should not enjoy themselves. Just said "look at those old people dance."

  • @AndyMac1369

OK, I accept that you meant it in a decent way. I suppose I interpreted it differently because I see so many hateful and twisted, derogatory comments on here.

  • @Soi6Fan Where in Thailand are you from?

  • @AndyMac1369

    I am from England

  • @Soi6Fan

Thanks - some BONEHEADS are in this world - this is the music that started what is going on Today.....I agree with you all the way - I think our young world should check out what us wiser and older power people can inspire them to be since they are not what we see what they are at this time.

  • @AndyMac1369 LOL

  • It has my vote also
