  • I don't mind their new shit, but I miss this gritty, acoustic sound. Their new music just can't compare to this. RIP old Against Me.

  • who is the song about?

  • @saligari666

About the lead singer, Tom Gabel's grandparents.

  • @AtomicAnomoly thanx m8

  • I know this is a tribute to Axl (Hall of Famer). But it's not right to shove the name Evelyn down his throat. Someday when a special lady breaks your heart, you'll regret writing this song. Personally though, I like the song.

  • Just listen to the lyrics, the passion, the story, enjoy it. That's it, nothing more.

  • I have to say that White Crosses is an good album. However, there is no doubt that the works such as this song is with no doubt better.

  • What a beautiful song.

  • this song means so much to me...♥

  • against me will always be against me no matter whio they signed too but the white cross alm=bum suxx.... i personaly dont like it and i focus more on the old stuff

  • it a shame their new shit sucks.

  • Who gives a F%&$ about what their signed to, the lyrics still speak with faults and accomplishments of tom gabel, They might of changed how they play the music or who their signed to but the lyrics havent changed one bit and thats what Against Me! is all about. they never really played good music but their lyrics were off the the charts in meaning.

  • @YOUAlREADYkNOW1212 Really? This song is off the charts in both music and lyrics

  • @YOUAlREADYkNOW1212 what about "I was a teenage anarchist? That song fucking sucked, as well as the entire "New Wave" album. Tom Gabel went to shit even with his solo album "heart burns". He wen't from "baby, I'm an Anarchist" to I was an Anarchist but now I think it's silly now because I make lots of money. We are the 99% and fuck Tom Gabel!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @1014Timothybrooks The majority of the '99%' are American loving capitalists.

  • @1014Timothybrooks lol, butthurt bitch.

  • @YOUAlREADYkNOW1212 i give a fuck

  • only scene kids and posers even use the term "sellout" in any sort of serious sense.

  • @clienhart and hipsters who are sad that they aren't the only fans anymore.

  • @clienhart Lol...there's no facts to support this statement. Listen to your self, "scene kids" and "posers".......what does that make you? Probably someone who labels himself as a true "punk rocker" or something. LOL it's gibberish for look at me I'm cool, you're not. Fuck labels. Against Me! didn't sell out. Just listen to the music.

  • @clienhart Some people are sell outs. They use their talents to push acne medicine and car insurance. I'm not saying Against Me! has done this, but when you have the attention of the nation and you use your talent to tell people to watch MTV or drink Pepsi or tell people they need to spend money in anyway, you've given up your status as an artist and have become a sellout piece of shit. You've become an employee of some other multi million dollar company that doesn't give a shit about art.

  • THIS SOUNDS SO COOL ACOUSTIC

  • I don't think they sold out at all.

  • If 'selling out' means you don't have to sleep on peoples floors, wear dirty clothes and eat peanut butter for a week all the while getting your music out to a larger audience. I'm all for it. Ask Fugazi how it worked out for them...

  • @GeneralUrsus theres a difference between signing for a major label and selling out though. a band can sign for a major label and still do what they want to do and still stay true to themselves which i think is what AM! did

  • I still love this song.

  • I love this song and the acoustic is even better :D

  • I love them for their older stuff :)

  • Every fucking video I come on, I see everyone fucking arguing about being a sell out. Fuck, whatever you believe, keep it to your fucking self. I personally feel that Tom screwed over fans, labels, and every cause they claimed to support, but fuck you for ruining this god damn comments section. I still think Tom is a cool dude for making music in the first place. I understand he needs to eat and shit. Just because you disagree with their choices as a band don't mean you gotta shit on them daily

  • Greatest song for today! (today being St-Patrick's day by the way)

  • One thing you'll learn listening to music for years is that bands that "sell out" really havnt sold out they just stayed together.

bands who havnt "sold out" broke up.

Think if bands are together for years ofcorse there going to get noticed and the biggest part most people forget is people do mature and thoughts do change. so reallly no band has ever sold out but are continuing writing about how they feel now. You can only write about the same thing soo much.

  • what a pitty making money turned them into garbage...

reinventing axl rose is one of the best albums i've ever heard... they used to rock.

  • they're playing at ucr today and i wont be able to see them :{

  • is it alright just to change the lyrics to "it's been 47 years" whenever i sing this song?

  • i agree i saw them in a basement in long island for the first time like 7 years ago not the same band. ever since eternal cowboy the have slowly lost it now that new album is garbage

  • Everyone can shut the fuck up if the think they sold out. If you didn't like White Crosses, too bad for you. Tom Gable is a amazing musician and everyone seems to associate money with selling out? Dude they're making money and a real fucking fan would be happy for them. They NEVER sold out and they never will.

  • @Cardboarde They DIDN'T sell out? Then what do you call "I *WAS* a Teenage Anarchist?" Change of opinion?

Seriously, listen to the guy who mentioned "Reinventing Axl Rose." That song was against everything Against Me! is doing now. They lost their integrity, and Tom Gabel needs to get the stick out of his ass and see that.

  • @nateeatsshitalot

They're actually making money, i actually liked White Crosses. Every band evolves a little bit, and "I was a teenage anarchist" is a great song. If you hate them so much, dont listen to em

  • @nateeatsshitalot I was a teenage anarchist is just part 2 to baby i'm an anarchist

  • @MFenix113 I don't understand why people claim that "I was a Teenage Anarchist" is a sign of them selling out... Just because your opinion changes on your views in life it doesn't mean you've sold out or are simply in it for the money.

  • Fuck all the Against Me! haters. Seriously, music is a BUSINESS, where people need to make money to survive. It's absolutely unreasonable to think think that they could survive making the meager amounts of money they did on Axl Rose. Real fans are the ones that follow them through their career. Times change, and so does the music, and people need to get used to that. They aren't one of those bands where every song "sounds the same." They are evolving, and it has only furthered their career.

  • @spilsbury4 Also, on another note, they make THEIR OWN music, which means that it's THEIR choice on what to write.

  • one of the only songs that makes me sad, mad, and proud at the same time.

  • Tom is a buddy of mine, and he'd punch you in the fucking mouth if you told him his band sold out.

  • @danielkills Good, maybe then they could write some fucking music.

  • @toriridesbikes

dude listen to baby I'm an anarchist....then to I was a teenage anarchist.......you'll see why they "sold out". They didn't sell out, they just changed direction. Sometimes as an artist you've gotta do what you've gotta do for yourself after doing so much for the fans. Still good stuff, just totally different, but I think they did it for themselves, coz sometimes you've gotta do it, especially as a musician, you need to play what you feel.

  • @toriridesbikes But does it really matter? If they're still pumping out good music, I don't get what the problem is.

  • youtube.com/watch?v=xPYBsEv5hCo

  • @theawesomebomb Do you understand how life works? Do you expect people to be piss poor and starving so they can create better music for you? F*cking shenanigans dude. If Wendys offered you a better deal than McDonalds...you would accept. Money is king in this world. And music is a gift. Stop being an asshole, and shave off your faux-hawk. Loser

  • @foundonfloor Finally, someone who understands where I'm coming from. Music is a GIFT, and not a god given right. Be appreciative about what gets put out there, because you aren't making any music yourself.

  • @foundonfloor ha faux-hawks. true sign of an asshole.

  • @njlacrosse9 unless your name is Mark Hoppus

  • @KosherMeatsack who?

  • @njlacrosse9 co-singer and bassist of blink-182

  • @KosherMeatsack nope....still an asshole...and a poser

  • @foundonfloor ... I was arguing for them selling out.

  • @TheAwesomeBomb you sell out as soon as you sign a record contract, ask any major musician, they may try and stay true, but its an instant sell out,

  • @TheAwesomeBomb your an idiot

  • @connort50 I was an idiot. I made those stupid comments 2 years ago, what did you do, spend an hour scrolling through every single comment. Get a life

  • @TheAwesomeBomb no it was the second comment on the song, idiot

  • @foundonfloor lol, actual real life "lol"

  • @foundonfloor Money isn't king, people have made it king. Life, love, and music are everything. Fuck you.

  • haha adam sandler said it the best.

when your in your twenties its like "fuck my parents, fuck the government man, hell yeah!"

When you get older its like"...hm....whats in the fridge?"

haha the guys are older, tired of singing about anarchy. Tom has kids for christsake

  • @DeBoWed Its not the lyrical content people are pissed about its the fact that they commercialized the hell out of their sound.

  • @toriridesbikes you couldnt talk out of your ass more if you shoved your head deep down inside yourself and out your colon

  • they are a mad goood acoustic band

  • Comment removed

  • @toriridesbikes Get a 4 track and record in the basement, because I think your more attached to the production of the older tunes. More attention to the details and the "pop" sound of the newer stuff is just a natural progression, not a money making scheme.

  • @edshipp you're wrong in every way possible.

  • @toriridesbikes you must not be a musician. Progress and change are essential to any person or, now brace yourself, even your favorite artist. The simple fact that you think they would choose to live by the words of one song is absolutely ignorant. You should applaud them for their changes and start yourself a punk band and write gritty tunes.

  • @toriridesbikes and how do you know why Tom Gabel writes music?

  • @Kyleisagay Sure, I'll admit, I do not 100% fully know why he writes music, but I do know that any musician that was so determined in his previous composing of music, to just one day fucking throw it all away, to make a quick buck, is not ok. Yeah, it would RULE if Against Me! made music like they used to, and were popular. But seeing as how, they would rather make money than make music that is true to themselves, is bullshit, and not the Against Me! I used to know.

  • @toriridesbikes

Sorry they're not playing at your next birthday party, get over it. There's so many people calling these guys out for "getting paid". There's NO reason you can't keep enjoying them, you personally made them stand for something, the fact they don't match up to your imaginary rules doesn't change anything.

  • JUST ENJOY THE FUCKN MUSIC!!! POEPLE

  • @toriridesbikes you must be an idiot. if you really knew Tom and the gang you'd know that they love their music WHEATHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT. they dont care if YOU dont like it cause they could give two shits. its about their expression, not yours buddy

  • @DeBoWed Do you know Tom and the band? do you know them personally?

  • @AnuarFakihFakih yes, i've met them and i had an interview with each member and i asked them what they think of fans saying they've "sold out". tom laughed and said "fuck it, were not making this music for them, its for us".

  • @DeBoWed Well they are obviously not going to admit it. I really don't care that they did anyways even though that's not what they stood for because people need money to survive. I don't know how well off he was before signing with the major record label but I can understand why he did so. For the record I started on their Acoustic EP

  • I'll be honest, I do not hate White Crosses. I actually like the lyrics to those songs, and the music is alright. Obviously not what Against Me! can truly cook but still the occasional listen. I actually like WC over New Wave.

I started off with New Wave (picked it up at a store-closing sale) and was rather interested in them. Started back-tracking (even picked up Crime) and really can see most of what people are upset about, but at the same time I can also see where they are coming from.

  • oh come on...take the sold out discussions to the new songs but not at this song..this song is just too fucking great to argue about new or old against me! just listen to one fucking masterpiece. just listen and shut up.

  • i have no problems with their new popularity if they were making good music. But their new music is shit plain and simple. I would still be all for Against Me! if they were still making great jams but they're not.

  • It'd been 5 years since Against Me! Died Sept 6th in 2005, i still hold it against them.

  • A perfect example.

"But when it came time to throw bricks

    Through that Starbucks window,

    You left me all alone."

throwing brick through starbucks window = bringing down the establishment and globalization?

kinda hypocritical? seeing as how they recently signed to a multi-billion dollar label owned by fucking warner bros.

  • @kroontjetyla Lyrics written by, what, a 17 year old with no responsibilities or cares? Things change when you get older. You gain life experience, your views differ. They're in their late 20's/ early 30's now. It's natural. Get over it.

  • Best Against Me! song

  • @toriridesbikes I must admit, White Crosses is aboslute shit though

  • @TheAwesomeBomb This is just my opinion, but I think White Crosses is their best album since Reinventing Axle Rose. Like I said, just my opinion though.

  • Wow, it takes some fucking songwriting skill to have a song that hits you this hard, and even more skill to feel the same emotion just READING the lyrics without the music. Fuckin rights Against Me!

  • what the fuck?! this is great!

  • @warpedmind41 I very much beg to differ. It takes some talent to make a rock opera that actually works, and Green Day pulled it off.

  • @TheAwesomeBomb It might work for a ten year old, but that's about it. That was one of the worst albums I ever listened to. I actually sat down and listened to the whole thing while I was doing homework, right after it came out and everything. I'm surprised I was able to sit through it, but I wanted to give it a chance. I mean, I liked the song American Idiot for about a week...but that was it.

  • @TheAwesomeBomb You obviously haven't listened to The Protomen. THAT is a rock opera.

  • can u edit it so it doesnt have all that crap at the end?

  • lol, my name is evelyn. :3

  • I miss old Against Me! I kinda like New Wave, but White Crosses just sounds like arena rock. But, Tom can't keep writing just the same songs over and over again.

  • Holy shit, I forget there was even an acoustic version of this amazing song. I think I lose a million cool points for that.

  • I love this song but it's so damn depressing

  • Love this song!!

  • This is music. Just appreciate that and take it easy.

  • good song

  • any1 know the tab to this?

  • first verse is just Am(playing E bass note) to B/C(G as bass note) then back to Am and E, then G.

Chorus is just FM, Am, and G. second verse is same as Chorus just different strumming and pattern, i'm sure you can figure it out.

  • this is there best song hands down and its sooo much better acoustic

  • oh my god, this is great. thank you!

  • I love this song...

  • jeez... that was fast. i have like all of their music now, and this is still their best one. i also noticed that NO ONE has posted the acoustic version. so i decided to. You know what makes Against Me! great? they dont have a friggen copyright protection law.

  • I bet you Sire records does.

  • yeah, that would make sense. I hate Sire records.

  • Well, they're the ones pimping AM! now so expect more 'hits' like Thrash Unreal. *BARF*

  • @TheAwesomeBomb That does make them awesome. I enjoy bands that do it for the music, rather than the money. And so many bands put up a fake front of this, saying they are against the industry, but then have copyright protection.

  • @iamthebeastboss Picture this though. You're a band who plays for fun, but don't make much money. It's not a big deal for you. But then BAM! Some record label offers you a record deal that gives you more money and more gigs. Do you accept? I would. Most people would. Against Me! did, and people hate them, but in reality, they would have done the same thing. People are just bitching because they aren't the only people that know Against Me! anymore. Same thing happened with Green Day.

  • @TheAwesomeBomb I see where you're coming from. Greenday was a bad example though. Their sound changed, not saying it was because of the fame, but they just changed. I'm glad when an obscure band becomes famous, as long as they keep making music like the stuff that got them there. but yeah, i understand wanting money, although labeling it so people can not listen to it on something like youtube, is ridiculous

  • @iamthebeastboss yeah true. Although, I find Green Day's music got better over time. Most people say Dookie was their best album, I have to say it's either Warning or American Idiot.

  • if your in it for the music you want to opy right it. to protect YOUR music.
