  • THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET GRUMPY OLD MEN TO TALK

  • I wonder if they'll be discussing Harry Potter in a thousand years time, claiming him to be some 'prophet'. Knowing how stupid humans can be, I wouldn't be surprised.

  • Holy fuck...just shut the fuck up old man.

  • The microphone question asking idea sort of bugs me at times. While some people give very good comments during them and then ask a question you get these idiots like this old man that just waste everyone's time. Typically I find it more efficient to hand out question sheets to the audience and then have a group of people collect and examine them first. Then have the moderator ask the written questions to be much better and helpful.

  • Omg is this man STILL talking???

  • Waiting in line while the time runs out, I would have smacked that old man over the head with a candlestick and proceeded to the microphone.

  • The old man at the start of the video should have sat down after 10 seconds.

  • the child abuse stuff again *facepalm* he's answered that so many times!!!!

  • it's also frustrating that the man running the lecture keeps interrupting the way he does.

  • how frustrating it would be to hear that old man ramble and know that you have to form some sort of an answer in front of all these people. even though you know it is a waste of breathe

  • @ScotlandMaleGlasgow its because the majority of people are stupid... and all people are stupid on the scale of the universe. FSM.

  • The Multiverse? The comics industry seems to know more about it than anyone else.

  • that old fart is unbelievable irritating. the only thing I hear from him is blah blah blah blah

  • that mediator is a total tool.

  • wow those very long winded questions were exhausting to listen to, that one particular old dude was epic. If I were presented a question in that manner I would have cut him off and told him to rethink the question, that was just stupid. I can't imagine how Richard felt knowing he has to give some type of answer in front of a huge crowd in the condition he was in.

  • I read Ali's book! Follow Dawkins' advice, read it! :)

  • To skip the old man's rambling and smuggled preaching skip to 5:30. Yes, he does ramble on this long and RD is interupted in his brief response at that.

It's only the arguement of Prophecy again. If you're unfamiliar with the arguement this is the wrong place to hear it or the counter to it.

  • I had to fast forward past the prophecy garbage.... They said keep your questions brief, sheesh!! Brief damn it! What a waste of time...

  • Why are Theoretical Physics questions being asked to Richard Dawkins??Michio Kaku is the man for that.

  • Tihihi. Dawkins is actually wrong about the evangelists' knowledge of OT prophecies. Every single one in Matthew is either misquoted, quoted out of context, or simply made up.

  • i like that quote at the end!!

  • The LHC isn't trying to create another Big Bang, it's trying to recreate the extremely dense and energetic conditions that existed just after the BB so that physicists can better understand how the BB unfolded.

  • Nostradamus once predicted a great leader would die by a pyramid.

Princess Diana died in Paris. There is a glass pyramid in Paris.

Therefore Nostradamus was right and therefore God is real.

    Vote Jesus.

  • Watertight logic, HEIL GOD! \o,

  • @DrunkenPoetic, I like that! (Snicker)

  • What doest that have to do with anything??

What does not being able to predict the future has to do with the existance of God!!!!!

GEEZ!!! People are soooooo desperate to prove that God exists that they will relate everything!

  • I think the real problem is that the old guy is trying to come to terms with the fact that he is in "heaven's waiting" room and and is desperate to assure himself that there will be someone to catch him when the lights go out. Dawkins really should have shushed him out like an annoying fly.

  • wow, this guy who babbles about prophecy really ticked me off. He just gets told to keep it brief and then gets reminded over and over then finally cut off. in response to his question, prophecies fulfill them selves and is based on how the reader interprets it, the easiest examples are reading your horoscope or tarot cards. It means nothing and is all encompassing until you say "hey a windfall of money did find me, i found 20$ on the street today." but didn't mean you would win the lottery.

  • Jesus christ how long does that old guy want to take his ask to question

  • We have certain universal constants, things which have always been true like the laws of thermodynamics, but when it comes to actual evidence of what existed before the Big Bang we are at a loss. As far as we can tell, every atom in the universe was so intrinsically transformed by the Big Bang that there is no evidence of what came before. So we may never know for sure, but the Large Hadron Collider is trying to create a small scale Big Bang effect to see what is feasible.

  • Actually, the atoms came much later.

  • Hydrogen atoms are the most basic building block of all matter in the universe. Perhaps there was energy rather than matter and then that energy became hydrogen atoms? I have heard no such thing, but I may not have researched the details to the extent necessary.

  • Exactly.

It was simply too hot in the beginning for atoms to form. Hydrogen(75%), helium(25%) and a tiny bit of lithium came later when the universe was bigger and therefore colder. Higher elements are the results of dying stars.

  • The "before the universe" question is intriguing. The second law of thermodynamics as we are likely all aware, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed. Thus, the Big Bang created our universe, but not all the energy and matter that it is comprised of. That energy must have always existed, but just not in the form we know now.

Like a painting on canvas, the elements in the paint always existed, just in other forms, but when placed on the canvas we can call it Starry Night.

  • Immediately after the host mentioned the limited time remaining, and requested brief questions and answers, this very selfish, slow-talking man was blabbering for the first 4-5 minutes, interrupting and being very unaware of the lack of time they had for his ramblings.

He really frustrated me, as I wanted to hear some interesting stuff about evolution, science, etc., and he was asking stupid questions about stupid prophecies.

I was so glad when the host finally cut him off.

  • Who are the people sitting in this audience?

They ask such simple and silly questions with only few of them to be taken seriously.

And this one Christian who cites the bible and talks about prophecies... how can one be so arrogant and incoherent. He obviously didn't know what he was talking about, I'm grateful they cut him off after babbling for minutes without any point.

I'm impressed by Dawkins' resilience and his talk despite his lost voice.

  • Lol you just need to read the OT to know that this god doesn't have the mental capacities to create a Universe as complex as we already know it to be

  • The man who rambled on about prophecies failed to look past blatantly insulting Professor Dawkins and smugly trying to prove him wrong.

If I were to prophecize that tomorrow morning when I wake up, I will silence my alarm clock, and then tomorrow when I woke up, go out of my way to carry out the prophecy...it's no different that those who prophecized the destruction of the temple that the man mentioned, and then carrying out the destruction themselves on the day they suggested it would happen.

  • ... Well go ahead o.O... lol

  • Wow, that first guy was a complete idiot. I can't believe he even had the guff to open his stupid mouth. I like to hear questions from the other side, but DAMN!

  • That first Christian questioner was the most boring bastard I've ever had to listen to. He's like the turgid bore with smelly breath at a party who has you pinned in a corner and whom you can't wait to get away from after about two seconds of suffering his droning tosh.

  • He sounded like his breath was smelly.

  • you again, your comments are ridiculous and innane, which bible are you talking of.?

is all of it true or just the nice parts? I applaud you though for watching dawkins all the way to the end of this conversation. i hope you learned something..

  • Do you have any evidence of that?

  • hahha , the bible is as true as the story about the goblins and hobbits..

  • Damn right! My Bible is Tolkien's triology. I find that way more believable :D

  • Mine is the Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy - its in English rather than Elvish. Much more approachable and coherent.

  • @gskowal How dare you question J.R. Tolkein's credibility!

  • No we are not, as a human race, capable of explaining how the universe and space as we know it began...but that doesn't mean that we have to resort to any alternative that is available...some of us are content with just saying that we simply don't know at the time but we have faith in our brightest men and women in all fields of science that one day, in their pursuit of scientific excellence and perfection, they will be able to explain this beautiful mystery. I just hope I'm alive then :)

  • This film (10/11) shows a very important argument from Christians, and that is that the bible predicts. But Dawkins wasn't able to get the poor old chap to critically look at his own presented statement, or even listen to the explanation. (Picking and choosing what was a prophecy after the event) Just shows how blind some people are. Poor old man.

    Great video.

  • PROPHECY!

    God will appear on youtube.

    RESULT!

Everything in this comment is true, if you distrust this you will burn in hell forever in fiery torment.

    I am god.

I wrote this comment, therefore it is true.

    You must give me money.

    I fulfilled a prophecy.

  • OH Your fucking holiness...would you like us to wipe your ass too? Maybe you would like us to fellate Jesus Christ :P

  • The argument nullifies itself! Quoting from the bible to prove it. Dear me. "Logic is not automatic. Those who deny it cannot be swayed by it"

  • 1:00 this guy is just hiding behind a mountain of words just as an evangelical will spew off random soliloquies of scripture.

  • If he is trying to convert Dawkins he' better do better than that. LOL and I'm a christian I'm supposed to be on his side. If the old guy is going to play that game he could at least have picked a better prophecy

  • I don't remember people in the U.K. being so fucking long winded!

  • So Daniel divines the destruction of the temple after the coming of the Messiah. Does he specify which temple. Even if he does 'the temple' has to collapse either before or after the coming of the Messiah that is a 50/50 guess hardly that impressive. Lol xXx

  • There is also the problem of which Messiah, which healer, which king. There were many of the above mentioned in historical texts of the time, many of whom were killed, all before the destruction of the Temple. The main one, at least. What is the criteria of the Messiah as well, since that was apparantly a changing perception over the centuries, and of some debate between religious scholars.

  • Like Dawkins mentioned, and I wished we could have heard more of, there are plenty of example of prophecies that didn't happen, or were downright forgeries which should never be used in any serious debate. I wish we'd have more of that in this debate other than asking about the age of a newborn's genes. >_>

  • Also self-proclaimed "messiahs" were ten to the dozen around the time of jesus

which "messiah" was daniel talking about?

  • 2:21 you gotta love dawkins look on his face. Like "are you kidding?"

  • can someone help me with the name of the somali women Dawkins mentioned?

  • Her name is Aayan Hirsi Ali. Apparently her book is very good. I cannot comment on that because I haven't read it but there is something similar around I have read. It's the biography of Waris Derie, a woman who also suffered genital mutilation (again I think in Somalia) and is now campaigning against it.

  • The moderator's point at 8:30 is exact. Atrocities are done in the name of religion AND atrocities are done NOT in the name of religion.

Much of Dawkin's crusade is founded on the premise that ridding the world of religion would lessen evil.

But if evil is done both IN and NOT IN the name of religion, how does he suppose this is true?

There is not a shred of evidence to back this assumption; in fact there is quite a bit of evidence to the contrary.

    (The 20th century for example)

  • Female Genital Mutilation is an abomination. The religions that support it are pure fucking evil. There can be no argument. Hacking off a girl's clitoris is EVIL.

  • Religion is the worst thing to happen to the human race.

  • I think that over the span of time when it happened, the Black Death might have been worse than religion. But on average, over the whole period of human civilization, religion has been the worst thing.

  • veg

  • Don't be silly mg19930. Short? He had about the longest go out of all the questioners. You notice they also cut the physicists off completely, "Stay in your seats, we don't have time for that explanation..." Are you at all cross about that? Nope.

  • Dawkins looks so uncomfortable listening to the prophecy guy...cringing in embarrassment on his behalf.

  • That old man talking about prophecies was a total waste of time

  • Yeah no kidding.

Sit down old man and flip some tarot cards.

  • @ricardoarios1 Yeah, he was a moron.

  • @ricardoarios1

I don't think he understands what the meaning of "brief" is.

  • @ricardoarios1 the old man was right, prophets do exists! haven't you seen Heroes? The painter was a true prophet! And they saved the cheerleader! if only he was around 2000 years ago...

  • It seems clear that the moderator wants to be the star of the show.

  • mg19930, you're an idiot. They said to be brief because there was only about 15 minutes left and he took over five minutes to bring up prophesies in the Bible. It should have been like this: "What about the prophesies of the Bible?" "They're rubbish because it's easy to make a generic prophesy and make it look like it came true when you right about events that fullfil it 60+ years after the fact."

    Congratulations, mg19930, you've been brainwashed.

  • correction: "when you write about events"

  • Ever noticed with these things that the most waffling, never-ending, boredom-inducing question comes straight after the moderator asks for brevity?

  • And that guy speaks so slow, listening to him is like watching flies f*ck. (Thanks to George Carlin for that one)

  • yup, a shame he's no longer a live

  • No no no no no no! Dawkins DON'T talk about multiverse! That's a complete rubbish theory in terms of science because it can not EVER be proven / disproven. IT IS NOT SCIENCE. By addressing it you give it credibility which it does not deserve and mislead people who follow your other (good) ideas.

  • It can be proven you obviously haven't read enough on it. Sparticles sir, sparticles, that could be found at CERN. Or build a collider the size of solar system to look at a string but that is a few years away I think.

  • Actually it "will be proven" when we have instrumentation capable of seeing the edge of the universe. If its fluctuating in any way, its being acted on by an outside source. Most likely what we perceive as "galaxies" are, nothing more than, a type of "atomic" structure to some larger object. This is "cosmological constant" Einstein was looking for. Its simple, existence stretches out both ways, (Quantum and Galactic) to infinity. God would put a cap on infinity and the equation would FAIL.

  • Remember atoms are mostly empty space and so are galaxies.

  • Some education required here. The multiverse is a serious proposition, and would go a long way toward explaining a lot of things, especially if you think of the universe as a quantum fluctuation. It would be worth reading up on superstring theory and brane theory.

  • I don't think the host was enough of a dick. We aren't interested in a diatribe by audience members, we want more from the round mound of profound.

  • the host is a dick.

  • Agreed..

  • ok, after watching it all.. I see he is a bit of a dick

  • he's a dick to people who want to make speeches and not to get to the point

  • A negative power will only give you fractions, not negative numbers (i.e. 1^-2 = .01 or 1/100).

    One mathlete point to me!

  • "It's the same wherever you go. There's good and bad in every country." that's from Godzilla vs. Biollante.

The problem with religion is that it preaches delusion and insanity, and when it gets too much influence, it can cause altered perceptions and hallucinations. No, not ALL religious people are murderers, but the altered reality raises the risk that their "right" can lead to a felony. Not ALL mental disorders are potentially violent, but you need to watch the ones that are.

  • I love that quote at the end of this video! Thanks for posting these videos by the way, I really appreciate it PiroNiro!!!

  • X 2 !!!!

  • It always amazes me when people use scripture to prove itself. Dawkins actually before the question was asked requested a prophecy not self-validated by the Bible as the writers of the New Testament had the Old Testament when writing it!

It reminds me of the Penn & Teller: Bullshit! episode on the Bible wherein a man says he can prove that Jesus was divine or what not because Jesus was placed in the tomb and then when it was opened, he was gone, thereby proving he rose again.

  • ffs im sure there are loads of people with intelligent questions and he just wastes time with biblical prophecy

  • LOL @ the old man quoting scripture. How pathetic. Took 4 minutes to give an example of an ambiguous prophecy that was only fulfilled within the imaginary context of the very thing he was trying to prove to be real.

By the way, anyone else find the question master beside Dawkins REALLY annoying? He's like an unexperienced game show host.

  • What kind of game show are we talkin about here?

  • I don't find him annoying. He seems to use his position as an official person on stage with a microphone to ask questions he finds personally important, for sake of acting as a buffer between dawkins and his semi-fanatical atheist followers or so. But he's still fairly humble and doesn't take that much time or anything. Asks decent questions

  • He just said keep it short!

  • "Good people do good things, and bad people do bad things. But for good people to do bad things, that takes religion."

    What an excellent quote.

  • The chap in beige has a very wet mouth!

Horrible Christian slobbering fool, debating scriptural prophesies with Dawkins.

  • drone. Unfortunately old people can waffle too much.

Religious people are missing the main point. Just because scientists cannot work out the beginnig of the universe doesnt say ANYTHING about a deiety. It just means they don't know..yet. To fill the gap in saying god did it is haulting all progress, because they seem to think they've worked it out. But they just shrug their shoulders and point at an invisible deiety that isnt there, and never made himself/herself know in the first place.

  • This greedy old crone is hogging the mic!

  • He is hogging to his belief.

  • wow that old codger went on and on! i was so bored. bit like that girl in the top right of the screen.

  • The common answer seems to be "it isn´t in the bibble so clearly god didn´t want us to know yet, QED". They seem to love circular logic. The other one I´ve heard is "There were more important things to say", apparently talking donkeys rank higher than E=mc^2.

  • hahahaha...nice one!

  • If someone actually found a talking donkey, it would certainly rank higher than e=mc2. :) That would be earth shattering news that would change our way of life.

  • Ah, I hadn´t thought of that. Maybe we just haven´t looked hard enough. The next time I see a donkey I´ll ask whether it can speak. Who knows, I might be a nobel prize for it. Actually, I´d better ask snakes as well, I hear they were quite chatty back in the day.

  • holly shit it was a 10 minute question

  • blah blah sharp shooter fallacy blah blah

  • lol did jesus predict teh iPHONE??? now THAT would be impressive

  • Fucker could have got his dad to predetermine a 3G iPhone, and not charge people for a handset AND an 18 month contract. But hey, nobody's perfect - not even God.

  • hahahaha that old duffer went on for ages. blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah ill try to be brief blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

  • The political action creating Israel was precipitated by Xians trying top "fulfill prophecy".[that Israel would be reborn and rule before the return of a messiah]

With malice of forethought, albeit schizophrenic, Xians take many actions then turn around and 'observe' that 'prophecy has been fulfilled'

  • Funny thing, Israel. Remember Christ said '[the Kingdom of God] shall pass in this generation'? Obviously it did not.

    Problem.

So they twisted it to mean the 1st generation in the new Israel. Started 1948. That generation passed as well.

I wonder when this holy prediction will finally bump into something to make it "true".

  • wow, the final quote, although I disdain sound-bites, is a worthy reqoute..

  • That old man was so annoying

  • Hehehehehe.

I hate his saliva sounds so much right now.

  • *smack* *smack* *smack*

  • What the fuck was with that long-winded arsehole? "Blah blah blah prophecy blah blah blah quantum physics blah blah blah Daniel chapter 9"

  • Lmao.

  • Sorry for that minus, I meant to reply.

This man is a ->[true believer] who feels the need to share his profound wisdom. Hard to deal with.

That's why we are trying to expand euthanasia rules in Holland ().

  • lulz to the nth

  • you recieve ONE math nerd point!......

    .. to the nth power!...

  • BOGUS! That's still only 1 point!

  • Thank-you for posting these video's!!!

  • Love that quote at the end.

"Good people do good things and bad people do bad things but for good people to do bad things, that takes religion."

  • "At this time, a friend shall lose his friend's hammer and the young shall not know where lieth the things possessed by their fathers that their fathers put there only just the night before, about eight o'clock. Yea, it is written in the book of Cyril that, in that time, shall the third one..."

  • I lol'ed

  • They should've taken an extension of "ownage" to allow Dawkins to respond to Captain Biblical Prophesy.

"Isiah X:Y predicts what happens in Mark A:B!!!!"

Even if they were different books, the fact that mere text can either be or fulfill a prophesy is absurd. Nostradamus is an example of a non-prophet of which books about his "prophesies" could be written in earnest by honest people.

  • The whole thing is a fraud, and arguement over the details demand being willing to accept many unpleasant things about the entirety of history, it's conquerors, and the intent of those who have maintained control over cultural and social systems.

Science has already uncovered fraud in religious systems that still hold sway in a global context. How then do those who are unwilling to accept historical facts, be capable of uncovering the truth?

  • Why the flock would anyone worship a god that predicts future? This means that humanity as a whole has no power over it's future. And since humanity is a multitude of people that means none has power over his/her own destiny. Conclusion: you worship or don't worship that god because that god already configured you to do it. There is no merit in worship god and not blame on not worshiping it. Flock it! People cling to any stupidity just because their are desperate for a place in heaven.

  • "Faith is not a virtue"

  • Where is nr 12?

  • Good gods, did that dude really try the "but the bible says..." argument on Dawkins? That's rich...

  • What WAS that person's argument? I really couldn't tell what e was meaning.

  • I think his argument went along the lines of: "but predictions in the bible come true in the bible, so the bible must be true and god exists."

  • One could use the same argument for Yoda existing "A long time ago, in galaxy far, far away..."

  • Yeah, I think that was the gist of it. I'm just glad he was made to look like a complete dick.

  • I don't think his argument was good and he takes up half this video with it... But I'm pretty sure he starts saying that nothing is completely predictable, and that is the same thing that the bible says. Then directs to a specific piece of scripture(Daniel ch. 9) which is just about as vague as your common place psychic.

  • Physcis say unpredictable, cos they cant predict it yet and they wont be able to predict it in the future probably.

But most of us misunderstand the word of predict. it doesnt mean than the building blocks of the universe is totally random or they dont have connections. A world like that couldnt work.
