I had this procedure for a grade 5 AC separation + labrum repair in February and results are great. Key to good recovery is sticking to the PT. The harder you work at PT the better off you'll be. I did 3-5 days PT for 5 months and I have full range and can do pull ups, one handed pushups etc. The first 4 days after surgery I had to take narcotics but was able to be off pain killers after that, although there was still pain for some weeks following.
Thank you. Success rate is 90%. I always tell my patients that there is a chance that it will come back if the reconstruction fails (although I have never seen that). Also, a chance of losing a little strngth or developing a minor amount of stiffness. Being off narcotic pain medicine depends on your pain tolerance, but for most patients between 2 to 4 weeks.
Thanks for an excellent walk through of the procedure. I am going to have this performed for my separation soon. It looks more invasive than I thought so hope the results are well worth it. What's the success rate of the procedure assuming the recommended therapy is followed closely? Also how soon are patients typically able to go off narcotic painkillers?
