Not at all! Actually, I am using the preamps and power section of the Carving V3 with the effects of the GSP1101, controlling it all via midi with the (Digitech's) control 2 pedalboard. But I could even do what you mentioned, that is the beauty of the GSP1101. I am sure you will be very satisfied with the sounds and possibilities.

Sounds very nice! I ordered one of these to run and experiment with my Fender 5150 III. So far Im thinking I will mainly use the effects. But I do want to compare it to my Fender's pre amp.

Hi Nicholas! I am not familiar with the silver face 2112. But I am sure you could apply the 4 cable method, as long as, you can bypass the internal preamp of the 2112. Then program (via midi) the 2112 with the Carvin V3 and control the patches through the control one.
Should you change to the Digitech GSP1101? I guess that is up to you and based on the capabilities of the 2112. Obviously, the GSP1101 is extremely easy to use and not as expensive, as other units.

Absolutely! You could even use the wizard set up 7 with the GSP 1101 and also use the preamp of your amp, if you like the sound of your amp's preamp.

I'll be getting this amp really soon, also the digitech gsp 1101. I'm glad to see that it has great sound and that they mix well together.

That would be good! One more thing that makes the V3 special is the fact that it has 2 separate effect loops, that makes all the difference, especially if you want to use pedals or rack effects and pedals. The amp is very versatile.
