@lizzy532 FF9 is the best of the "first series" being those without voice acting. It has the best/deepest story, best music, and in depth character developement. FFX was revolutionary though in the fact it also had all those traits.. though the character developement was less pronounced... but the voicing for that game is what made it... oh and can't knock blitzball as a fun minigame... Chocobo Hot & Cold was great too, but blitzball is the only minigame that could be it's OWN game lol

FF9 had an incredible storyline, I loved every part of it. The only thing I would say was lacking was the skills of the playable chars, mainly Zidanes. They were quite boring compared to others and previous series.

I played FFVII on ps3 last year and thought that it was a great game, but ix is a childhood game, and basically the only one I loved. I first watched my older brother play it through, but ffs.. this game took me ForEver to finish the first time, but I've finished it at least like 5 times over the past years, all because of the nostalgia, and it's still fking awesome to me, shit I know probably everything about the game.

U know what people think FFIX was bad mostly because of the childish figures given but hey if u ignore the given aspect, u would understand that it has one of the most beautiful plot and music. Add the battle system as being more enjoyable and best exploration system of FF to date. I liked this game but it stands out badly in my mind compared to 7 and 8. I played 7 and 8 to death before i got this, and kind of knew it wasnt going to be better than 8. Lo and behold the characters were cartoony, the fmv was worse and i didnt like the music either. I expected a massive fmv at the end like 8 did, but i remember there being none at all! It was still a great game though. 7 and 8 were my first rpgs, and i had no idea how spolit we were back then. Voice acting has made FF worse.

To me it had the best visuals, story, music, and game play of any PS game and I've played every FF more than once. The part of your comment that stuns me the most is that you didn't like the music. Often the people who don't think FFIX is great usually say the music was the only good part. I can't even find a bad song in the whole game. I guess I'm just curious as to why you don't like the music?

@FishingAtTheBeach I shouldnt have said i didn't like it, I just didnt find the melodies as good as in the previous two games. 7 is beautifully simplistic while 8 had a more epic feel. 9 kind of fits in between, and for me doesnt feel as distinct, but considering i didnt find the 'cartoony' character presentation as engaging, it probably set up a negative context for me anyway. But i played this 12 years ago, and im glad everyones reminded me what a great game it is as ill go again at some point

lol ppl need to calm down about which FF was revolutionary. As far as I see it, FFVII-FFX were all revolutionary in their own ways. FFVII was the first to have 3D graphics and "painting" style environments. FFVIII built off of that by having HD CGI and more detailed character models. FFIX featured different camera angles during cutscenes and brought back nostalgic aspects of (4-man party, medieval environment, etc) FFX was the first with voice-acting and linear style gameplay (no world map).

@cavanua Final Fantasy 7 is overrated. It's a good game, but FF4 and FF9 are better IMO. FF9 has better graphics and pacing, and FF4 has the ultimate storyline and character development. FF7 is good, but it was only such a hit because it had hype and was the first Final Fantasy in 3D. In terms of storyline and character development the only thing that stands out was the death of a main character (Aerith) who cannot be resurrected. Everything else was pioneered by earlier games.
