I use water and a wet vac. 1st I just vacuum and then I add water and vacuum and then I just keep on vacuuming to get all the water out. I feed my cat Purina hairball control dry food and have very light colored carpets and it works fast and easy. 5 minutes approximately.
I've been to Durango, it's a lovely place with the railway running through the centre of the town, but I would never vacuum my cat vomit up as I wouldn't want it left in my machine! Eeeeeeeeeeeeee Yakkie Yak Yak! Best to tip it in the bin. Good cleaning solution though!
as bad as i hate to wait for it to dry...i will do this...it will beat grabbing it with a napkin immediately (it's wet and cold) and then clean the stain/or spot itself.
