@psnider I could see why that gimmick was done in WCW..I mean that was a southeast promotion. If I were a booker during that time period or eariler I might have tried to play up faces with southern roots too.

The only thing controversial about the Southern Boys is the confederate flag design as part of their gimmicks. I agree with squabs217, it was and still is the worst gimmick I have ever seen as well. Otherwise, they were skilled wrestlers.
The Young Pistols were just as bad because it didn't enhance them at all. Once they went bad guys around the end of 1991 or early 1992, it ruined them because I don't believe they could sell their bad image well. If they would have kept the Southern Boys name but did without making them The Dukes of Hazard, they could have been something in WCW.
and just think a couple years later scott took steve's place to become the Young Pistols unfortunate that they never got the hype either team deserved.
