Wonderful closing credits to one of the best Olympics ever. I have such fond memories of these Games ... they took place during a very pivotal time in my life, and as such--stupid as it sounds--these Games hold a very special place in my heart.
thx for posting this vid, julius923. the closing credits of nbc's coverage of the olympics are one the things i look forward to whenever the games are on. their choice of music--from "remember the titans"--really goes well with all the footages they're able to edit together. this is the greatest. oh by the way, julius923, if you have the closing credits from the 2004 and 2008 summer games and from the recent 2010 winter games, please upload them soon. that'd be great. once again thx.
They don't even show Bjorndalen in this... He was only the most successful athlete of these games...(4 golds)!!!
In fact NBC just about ignored him in their coverage... it was their first winter olympics and I think they were too focused on the ra-ra USA theme... they've toned it down over the years thankfully and Vancouver was pretty balanced...
I'm glad NBC switched over to this soundtrack "Titans Spirit" in 2002 instead of continuing with "Ode to Joy" (1996 & 2000)... fits the theme of sports much better...
3:19 - That shot of Sarah Hughes finishing her program with the shot of her coach celebrating in the background is amazing. These Olympic montage pieces are always such a treat to watch.
I was so into these SLC Olympics, I mean I watched so much of it - even all of the various sledding events (which are quite fascinating) which I never had an interest in.
These were the first olympics to be taped after the September 11th, 2001 terrorist attacks. However, the way that the end credits you see here, they tell a whole new meaning. I really like these credits.
@ptb267ii Uh, whats that suppose to mean? Its simply NOT relevent and dosen't make any sense. Why would 9/11 have anything to do with the 2002 Olympics and its end credits?
It's sad that so many Americans died that day, but what your saying makes zero sense.
just wanted to point that the 02 olympics had plenty to do with 9/11. They occurred only about 5 months afterwards and if I remember correctly during the opening ceremonies when they raised the american flag they used the torn up flag from the world trade center. So the 02 games really were to some a huge step in the healing process following the attacks
If theres is anyway to post the closing credits to nbc's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympics after the closing ceremony, that would be awesome. As other people have said, those were just sick. The emotion!
And you also know that it was the former home of Jeopardy! juggernaut Ken Jennings who went on to win 74 games and $2.5 million. He now lives in Seattle.
Anyway..the closing credits here were just as good as the ones from 2006..and a little better than the 1996 closing. Instead of just music, you actually get clips of the action and play-by-play at the Games.
Love this music! BTW, the US men's hockey team trashed their hotel room and all of that. Is that not what you call bad sportsmanship or what?! The gold women's US hockey team however, showed good sportsmanship and could teach them men a lesson or two about being humbled.
The mens hockey team did trash their hotel rooms, but that was in 98 in Nagano. No excuse for that garbage, but as for how Pro Athlets carry themselves in the Olympics, hockey players are generally considered some of the best. Aside from 98, there have been many stories of Canadian, US and other NHL players being some of the most charitable and excessable to the public pro athlets at the games (summer and winter). In 02 Jerome Iginla put 4 random people up in a hotel that were staying in a car.
idk but everytime i see something like this, it just feels like the end of an era almost. like something just came and past that you will never experience again. thats what gets me
This NBC coverage of the games in Salt Lake was INCREDIBLE. After watching this years coverage of Beijing outside the United States, you really come to appreciate the un-matchable quality of American broadcasting!!
These Olympics kick the crap out of Torino's sorry games. I hope vancouver beat us. I WANT ever Olympics to be better than the last, and Salt Lake City is still the one to beat.
so true, Salt Lake olympics were the best ever, and Torino's just sucked. Vancouver has already failed miserably, they barely have enough snow, the snow they get is wet and slow, they messed up in the olympic ceremonies, they messed up with the ice, everytime it snows during an event it ruins it because the snow is so wet it slows the remaining oponents down. Vancouver isn't going to be seeing the olympics ever again. Salt Lake City #1
I love these closing credit montages. I can't wait for Sunday night just to see another one of these!
I too loved the Salt Lake Winter Olympics--my favorite ever! However, I do not agree at all with your assessment with Vancouver. There is nothing that the organizers can do about the warm weather--could happen anywhere. There was one slip-up in the OC, but that doesn't mean it failed. I would argue that many of the competitions (like figure skating) have been some of the best EVER.
Here's another sample of Trevor Rabin's geniality! His music has matched perfectly the video! It carries feelings, emotions, the excitement we experiment when watching the games! Trevor's undoubtedly special!
Thanks for continuing to upload these awesome Olympic vids! The closing credits of the Olympic Games are always great to see. It sums up everything very well.
