To the guy who asked about the dimarzio's, they are custom wound dimarzio's that were made for eddie van halen, you cannot buy them. the closest to them is the air zone for the bridge and the air norton for the neck.
Please can you tell me what kind of Dimarzios are the pickups??i know that are hambucker pickups but i dont know the series of the pickups...if you can help me :)

This guitar is a fine instrument. Every one I have picked up, in Guitar Center or with a couple of friends who have one, has felt great, played great, and sounded great. I truly think it is the best factory produced guitar available, even better than so called "handmade" ones. I only have one bummer, I got big hands, and the 1 5/8 nut width is a bit small for me to grip, if this guitar had a 1 11/16 neck, I would buy it immediately. Good playing on your video!
Getting a Music Man Axis HH Super Sport with Tremolo. But looking to replace the pickups. Which of the following pickup combos would work; Duncan Custom/Alnico II Pro, JB/Jazz, Duncan Distortion bridge and neck, Dimarzio Super Distortion/Paf Pro, Tone Zone/Air Norton, Super 3/Paf Pro. Or if you guys have an different combo that works let me know, please.
I just got a AXIS and I love the feel of the neck. But the guitars sound very wimpy compared to my Les Paul. Changing the pickups may help but the guitars are made out of ash. I don't know man... I wish they sounded beefier for chunky high gain chords.
BTW: The dude in the video sounds really good playing through that little peavey.
From what I have played I would say #1 is axis. Then #2 would be a John Petrucci Signature. Then #3 would be the Silhouette (any model). Then #4 is the Luke model. They are all amazing guitars and you would be happy with any of them.
I own a fender American strat but the MM Axis is the best guitar ever freaking made. I owned 3 and miss them so much and now I do not have the cash for a new one. Nice playing!
thanks very much! i know that ... soon i will post a short video through a Bassman 59 Reissue with nice distortion pedals like Keeley Modded Blues Driver / Ts-808, zendrive etc....!
enjoyed that! So what is the axis sport like, should i buy one and would you say the frets are smaller spaced than a strat? keep playing, it sounds very good!!!
Dude thats some sick playing... I'm looking for a guitar that sounds somewhat similar to this... besides the ernie ball models, are there any other guitars that you would reccomend? thanks :)
@uw1992 Take a look at the Ernie Ball Music Man Silhouette with the HSS pups. However, if you want one guitar that can do Les Paul sounds and Tele/Strat like tones, get the Axis Super Sport. Fort he money it is easily the very best
Excellent. I was looking for a demo of the super sport but I really enjoyed your playing. You did a nice job of showing the different tones and pickup options.
Actually the Axis is not better, it's just basically what the EVH model was before Eddie left ErnieBall. The Axis only comes one way, while the Super Sport can be more customized to your liking. Both are superior instruments, neither one is better than the other.
SWEET guitar and awesome playing. I hope to be able to do that one day. I am just starting out and been playing 3 months and have a musicman JP6 but like the Axis better actually. Thanks for posting this.
@Chad11491 agree'd its a great guitar! if you can get that sound out of a crappy amp you know thats a great guitar. which it is, i personal dont like the neck on the model, its too fat. I own a MMJP guitar... OMG AMAZING nicest guitar i ever played
awesome playing, sweet tone, and awesome axe... but is there a specific name for the pickups in that guitar? Because i want to buy a bridge position pickup for my SG.
Great Music Man Axis demo. I recently got the all-rosewood version and love it. Your playing and video really bring out the great sounds this guitar has. I'm especially amazed by the in-between (2 & 4) positions which sound so believeably strat- and tele- like. NIce playing!
I have question, what could you tell me about this amp? It's good or not ? For me very important is disortion because i would like to play some rock/hard rock...or meaby could you advice me some other amp in this price?
WHile not cheap, if you keep an eye peeled on Ebay, you can occasionally snatch up a Super Sport for around $900, love mine, best overall guitar I've owned, and I've had Les Pauls, Strats. Given that most working musicians will play various music styles throughout their lives, can't be beat for their versatility.
jeez man you can play i wanted one of the music mans sooooo much but i never got one cause they were too expensive so i got a epi les paul custom and it has no where near the tone this thing has man thats a regretful thought
thanx ... i dont think so! its great for practising and i play it live, too (but only the clean channel for "low volume gigs")!!! but for real playing i prefer the peavey classic 30 :-)
Really, the 158 sounds good for that amount of money it costs. Even in the same price class, find a comparable amp anyway. I use a Ken Rose XL15R for those low volume things, the overdrive is similar to the Rage's and quite authentic (although it's a transistor amp).

@chucke1963 its becuz of the wood, its a very light guitar and a les paul is very heavey. heavier guitars have amazing tones.

By the way the sound is not bad. You have a very nice finger tone so it couldn't be bad ;) Keep up the good work dude

PRS can get a similar sound, you just gotta know what kind to get
an SE custom might work well
shinjiyasuno 3 years ago
depends on the sound you desire!
a Les Paul sounds much smoother and fuller due to the mahogany body / neck
a stratocaster sounds different too (single coils, ash or elder...)
but i didn't play a similar sounding guitar of another brand yet

EVH: floyd rose
Axis SuperS: vintage trem
Axis SuperS: hard tail
Axis SuperS: vintage trem (P90 pickups)
Axis SuperS: hard tail (P90 pickups)
additionaly you can have piezo pickups ..

there's nothing special about a gibson les paul, that axis is just as good if not better than a Gibson. it's just the amp he's playing through
