i remember learning about and shooting this weopon we were told tht it cud never be replaced as its a really good support weopon in your section as your two gunners could cut anyone in half with the susat attachment from quite a range away
Nice review, im really not an airsoft person, but i want one.. Ive fired this many times as im a rifleman in the British Army, the sights are good all the working parts in the TMH (the main body) are pretty cool, are you gunnu get some sights?? if you do get a SUSAT, there really nice and is what the actually have on the LSW & SA80 in the BA :)) Thanks
@CQBRadio This is an LSW (Light Support Weapon) there is usually 2 LSW gunners per section. The effective range is around 1000 m. However they are getting pushed out of the way as newer versions of the SA80 (the individual weapon) are being upgraded. Now in Afghan, we tend to use the 'Minimi' (LMG) is it provides ALOT more fire power and is more reliable..
@schmoo1507 Yeah, we use them still but there getting old now and as i said, there getting pushed out by the 'minimi'. For the GPMG to work effectively and fast on foot patrols you need a 2 man team. One shooter and one feeder, where as with the LMG it is box fed with 100 rounds. I just came back from 2 weeks at Lydd training camp in Kent and i got through about 340 rounds in two days in a short training ex in the village they have there.
This gun has born as an LSW, now is used like a DMR. It has too short mags and it was too accurate for an LMG, so they changed its role (wisely, in my opinion)
@CQBRadio Since you're curious, just more information so you can compare the L86: American forces use 249's as "Light Machine Guns", 2 per squad, with 2 240's in each platoon.
its niot a carry handle its an iron sight ive shot the real L85A2 (5.56) and cadet version L98A2 both can be fitted with the iron sight of susat and everytime ive been on the range ive been told not to carry the weapon by the iron sight... but nice review im very interested in this :)
@NoBudgetFilmz you cant really choose, they are all different, you have to take into account what youll be playing, field or cqb, if field, do you want a 15 pound gun that can lay down some serious fire, or an 8 pound or so f2000 that is pretty average. if youre going to play cqb, buy the p90
@daytonairsofters i went out to a first and only event and then got a l85, armoured inf version. and i have a m203 on the way, if that dont fit my brother can have that for his m4 and also i bought the proper decent acog scope for it (the one with the pin), i go to my first even with it next year in feb so i cant wait to mow down some non acu scumbags
@ColinSWiseman Check out Deadrag Radio on iTunes - Episode # 15. They review an L85 from ICS - they have some interesting things to share. I haven't used this guy a ton so I wouldn't make a recc. one way or the other.
@TOXICAIRSOFT yes, the sight comes off and there is no rail - but I was given a rail with the gun - I am pretty sure that's standard from the factory of ICS to give you a rail too.
I cannot decide between ICS L86 and SRC RPK, my friends think the L86 is ugly but i don't care as long as its comfortable and gets the job done, which would you get if you could only get one?
@rubberwoody I haven't used either a ton because I usually use an M4 but I find the ICS has a much better build. Range is similar. The ICS is kind of awkward to hold if you've never used it before, so I'd recc. you try it out before you buy it. Pluses of the SRC RPK - light, takes AK mags, and nice range.
to al who ask. its a bulpup rifle and the weight is at the back. as the video states, left arm across the chest to hold the rear grip right arm on pistolgrip.
if you realy want to you can hold it with left hand under the 'battery compartment' but youll probably find your aim drift upwards from standing and kneeling.
How much heavier is the l86a2 than a normal l8582? Because im looking for a good support weapon, but very light weight support weapon. Im sick of carrying my big as m249 thats a peice of crap right now, and im a support gunner (and very good at it :D)
could this still be used in CQB well? I'm planning to get an L85/L86 but can't decide which one to get... The L85 is good for long ranges and CQB but the L86 just looks better...
@CQBRadio thanks man... oh and btw, i hope im not annoying you or anything but how long is the gun in comparison with an M16 or M4 and does the rail give enough eye relief space for a rifle scope? Sorry for bombarding you with questions...
@mandalore1000 the gun is longer than an M16 - check out Airsoft Station for details on the size and such. There is a rail included so you can take off the carrying handle and put on a scope. I haven't done this, but it's very common to do. Hope that helps. - Carp
@camayda just the basic rail. To be more specific, there is no rail under the handle but they give you a rail with it so you can attach it if you want to. You unscrew the handle and put on the rail that looks like a standard pic. rail.
@Australiaroo its for more support when firing on fully auto on the real one (also the reason for the shoulder strap) you only use it when in prone position
@rubberwoody If you like the L86 style, this is a great option. It's well made and has shot well for me so far. I haven't used it a ton, but I do like it a lot. As for the dual M4 mags, it would work, but the gun does come with 2 400-round mags so a few more of those would work best IMO.

yeah, but the real l85/l86 can take the same exact mags that m4s can so it CAN take m4 drum mags, but that doesnt mean that the british army will spend more money for the drum mags. (i dont see why they wont, they modified every single l85a2 to have the susat scope lol) so whats an extra 50 bucks for a drum mag.... lol and whats the point of even having the l86 lsw if you cant put enough rounds down range. basicly, this gun is a l85 varient of the DMR. Dont get me wrong, this is one BADASS GUN
You have to be sharpshooter status to use the L86A2 although its now being phased out by the British Military by the LMG as their is a new sharpshooter rifile
The L86 was the British Support Rifle (hence it was called the L86 LSW). However, due to the fact it only used 30rd Box Magazines, soldiers started using it as a marksmans rifle rather than an LSW.
It was then replaced as an LSW by the FN Minimi.
The GPMG is closer to an LMG, and has only been used at Section level for a few years.

tomtubridy 1 year ago
lol exactly. Except usually, the l86a2 will have a drum mag instead of a regular m4 mag. I got the A&K 5000 round box mag and it works perfectly.
wcomedy 1 year ago
No it won't. The L86 has never ever been issued with a Box Mag/ Drum Mag. It's only ever been issued with standard SA80/M4 Magazines.
That's why the L86 is now used as a Marksmans Rifle... It simply can't lay down heavy enough fire with 30rd Magazines...
MrRWJP 1 year ago
yeah, but the real l85/l86 can take the same exact mags that m4s can so it CAN take m4 drum mags, but that doesnt mean that the british army will spend more money for the drum mags. You have to be sharpshooter status to use the L86A2 although its now being phased out by the British Military by the LMG as their is a new sharpshooter rifile
linkinpark4eva2k7 1 year ago
Wrong, and technically wrong...
