  • I just got this in band today, i play clarinet and im SO excited! Our director said give it a week before you say weather you like it or not, but im already totaly in love with this song <3

  • One time during band practice, our doors were open and when that Sax solo cam in, It started to rain for the rest of the song... Perfect timing. xD

  • 1st Horn, looking forward to playing this! Seeing other comments about the great horn part makes me anxious to get a hold of this!!! Waiting for our director to get it and pass it out, but perform it, we will!!! :D

  • We're learning this song right now. It is one of the most amazing band arranged songs EVER! I love this song!

  • i can't wait to join our high schools honor band. Frank Ticheli will be guest conductor :'D

  • im alto sax and i get to play this in honors band on saterday! so excited :)

  • @lildaddysgirl16 is it for greater phoenix honor band

  • Flutes at 0:32 ♥ how pretty.

  • Never got the chance to play this one but it is beautifully composed.

  • @MusicallyPao yeah my band played American Elegy and Cajun Folk Songs, also by Ticheli, last year. I played tenor sax on them, both beautiful songs

  • i have 1 word to say: AMAZING

  • i would have never thought a sax solo for amazing grace but it's so perfect!

  • I play clarinet 2 for this piece. It is absolutely beautiful and enjoy every second of it. My band teacher actually went hiking with Frank Ticheli while in university.

  • im pretty sure i just came in my pants at 4:11

  • Beautiful

  • Played the Alto sax solo cried during it! It was my band teachers last concert! He cried from like 17 measure until the end and couldnt even conduct! we just played together cried together and gave him like a 5 minute standing ovation crying!

  • Frank Tichelli is the master at putting in all the little intricate details that are just the little things that end up building up. Which is why my director and I love Frank Tichelli. <3

  • Simply AMAZING!!!!

    One of my favorite songs!

    Cheers mates!!! =)

  • I absolutely love this song and It makes me feel really the chills down my spine especially during the alto solo and the final few chords that just cause so much tension. It definitely has some kicks in it for Tuba(my instrument) with those high E flats and the crescendos are hard to do as well with staying on a low B Flat for so long. It is a very beautiful song.

  • This song is so beautiful(: First trumpet<3

  • This was our senior piece for the class of 2011, I nearly cried playing it.

  • This piece is beautiful. Our marching band recently played this for my band director's memorial. He died at age 32 from a fall. We'll miss you all Mr. Steve Nedzel.

  • Ticheli is a composer that is truly in his own. His style amazes me, simple, yet complex, and texturally defined with the colors that come forth from the chord patterns and things...

He knows and understands a balance within all realms of music.

  • amazing peice for french horn <3

  • My band just played this for the Cañon City Music and Blossom Festival in Cañon City, Colorado

  • This is such a beautiful arrangement. Our band is playing it for festival and I just love it so much.

  • One of my favourite songs ever! My director has become obsessed with Tichelli and I begged him to let us play this. It's mechanically easy, but technically so complex. It's frustrating because the flute next to me doesn't play any dynamic besides fortissimo...

  • that one note on timpani (ffff plus accent) makes the entire song. and yes, i played the timpani part lol

  • Has anyone played American Elegy from him?? Brought me to tears... Also you guys should sing Earth Song by him too.

One of my favorite composers alongside Morten Lauridsen. He is the nicest human ever!

  • i love this song. i play it in band. i have the worst part thought... crash cymbal. 92 measures of waiting. XD

  • alto sax solo...get some

  • Cadets!!

  • Played this song in high school on the Clarinet. Didnt like this song until I played Ticheli's version. Absolutely beautiful.

  • I get the chills every time i hear this. Im playing bari sax on this for our band. probably the most beautiful piece i have ever played in band.

  • the build right at the end is absolutely amazinggggg:)

  • The final progression is absolutely mindblowing.

  • I played flute 1 for this piece my junior year in high school. I absolutely LOVED it!

  • i think this has to be my favotite peice of ticheli's we never played it in my band but we sight read it. i played first french horn.

  • ugh this sounds 100 times better than when my band plays it.

  • we're playing it right now and i think other kids in my band are annoyed that it's so easy, but i love it and i don't think that if you play it right, it's that easy...You've got to find the emotion in it.

  • I love this arrangement and I hope that we get to play it sometime....................I may just have a word with my director about playing it ;)

  • *siiiighhhh* i get chills EVERY time i hear this song... FREAKIN AMAZING

  • I played the sax solo in the beginning my freshmen year at graduation. My Older Brother was supposed to graduate but he died in a car accident and i played it for him. I made my band director cry. it was possibly my most memorable experiences in band.

  • This music is truly beautiful, but without words is totally meaningless.

  • Truly a remarkable song. The arrangement of this old classic leaves me awestruck not only by the musical notations presented by Ticheli, but by the meaning of the song.

  • I played this on Flute in 10th grade. It made me cry because a family member had just passed away :( such a lovely song

  • Played this on French Horn. My favorite song of all time. :)

  • @sk8rwhezel I did too! UT band camp this year, the first horn part is so fun! :D I seriously fell in love with it.

  • great song right here

  • The man who this is commissioned this lives in our area of Texas, so when we were about to play this piece at our winter concert, our band director suggested that we could have him come and conduct it. And then he realized we'd be playing four pieces, and decided to scrap it since it didn't fit too well with the other, more hardcore Christmas pieces.

  • My band just played this at ISSMA concert band contest. I was the lead alot and solo player! We got gold! :)

  • This is one of if not my favorite rendition of Amazing Grace. Ticheli is one of my favorite composers for sure!

  • played this on tuba. one of my absolute favorites.

  • I played this my freshman year... It's sop beautiful.

  • so*

  • we are planning on playing this at our spring concert- it is just soooo beautiful!! the first time i heard it, i almost cried. If i was not around people at the time, I probably would have. =] It is soo pretty. I play the flute and it is so great in this song. love it!

  • I played this at the districts concert in Missouri. I'm a freshmen and I made 4th chair trombone. People tell me that's great, and I agree, but I wish I got higher as a freshmen

  • We just played this for honor band last night...I LOVED IT!!!!! it was one of those where people don't clap till long after it finished I loved it

  • u hav honor band in november? honor band "here" (where i am) isn't until january. all-state in the spring

  • Yeah, we have all-state in January.

  • lol, cuz california has norcal and socal, then all state

  • lol that would be true we have districts in MO the south-west, north-west,south-east and north-west and then middle

  • niceeee

  • @BestTenorSax

For honor band. Dude, my symphonic band is playing this right now and we are 8th graders. what grade r u in, cuz that might make a difference but dude. we are playing this, its so hard, i hate it and love it at the same time.

  • @teenmusicluvr2010

Im a sophomore but that was an easy piece to pick up and play for our honor band. Good music to play for 8th graders it teaches you to make music not to read it.

  • @teenmusicluvr2010 it is a difficult piece to play like this...it takes a lot of musical discipline, but it is always good to play pieces like this for that reason

  • @pastorpana91 the band im in played it last year. AMAZING and one of my favorite pieces ive ever played for concert band.

  • im playing this song tomorrow in a concert. i play 2nd trombone. i love it. GO WCHS!!!

  • we played this at my honor band too!!

  • I'm Third Clarinet /:

I'm in the Wind Ensemble at the School for Creative and Performing Arts in Cincinnati (Yeah.. the one on the MTV show called Taking the Stage).

It's the top band in the school.

I've played first clarinet all my life until I was put in this band.

My band director says it's only because everybody else is in a higher grade than me.

    I'm a sophomore.

I don't think it's fair and it's taken a hit on my confidence.

    /:

  • First part/chair isn't just about being better(confident) or not, it's about being able to lead the section and blend in with the principle player(if you're doubling up on parts).

Remember, those upper-classmen are have an easier time blending together because they're accustomed to each other. Whereas you're relatively new.

Plus, first part in middle school/freshman band is radically different from first part in the top band.

  • You see, normally I wouldn't care about it all... but the "upperclassman" never come to class or rehearsal. When they do come they're lost. They can't play and they don't put in effort in anything.

  • Well then, that's completely different goose then. In my high school, if you missed rehearsal without an extremely good reason well....

Actually, that never happened with us. In fact, on some occasions, sick people would only come to class, get out early, and still be early for rehearsal in the evening.

Just "pay your dues" then : /

  • Oh I so agree with you :) Way to make things clear :)

  • Ticheli is amaaaazing! What ensemble is playing this?

  • Gorgeous piece, I adored playing this in high school. Very light and soft.

  • We played this at the honor band and i just about cried!!!

  • My high school band is playing this. I'm first alto sax, so I have the solos.

  • What high school, if you don't mind my asking?

  • North Hagerstown High School
