I'm definitely neither of those. I agree with you that it can neither be proved nor disproved and is a wasted effort to try to convince people one way or the other. There are so many other things all of that energy could go towards that would benefit everybody. Actually on an impartial scale of morals, if you read the Bible and take all the things God did and all the things Satan did, you'd have to conclude that God is a lot more evil than Satan. This is hardly surprising however as God is the author of Good and Evil and so is the true source of evil. So for my money, the question is, why worship either of these ghastly critters when you can worship so many other better entities (if you feel you have to worship something).
What I'm saying is, based on a book which Christians need to think is the WORD OF GOD (lolz) we can actually do some objective data mining. Using rules of ethics, well established in Philosophy, we can get proving stuff within that frame of reference. I admit it's about as scientific as the way Christians measured the age of the Earth via the Bible, but it matters to them, and that's just plain funny.

An all-knowing and all-powerful god must have designed Satan to rebel, which is somewhat contradictory as angels don't have free will, being extensions of the deity etc. I am still amused that anyone can take this nonsensical myth cycle seriously, Buddhism makes far more sense if you must believe in "something". All of God's creations have free will, including all the heavenly beings. Your argument has no factual support, unless you're arguing that YOU believe that God created the heavenly beings without free will. I thought you had at least a basic understanding of the representation of God according to CHRISTIAN doctrine. One of the fundamental concepts of Christianity is that free will is instilled in all of God's creations. Please read up on this before making foolish statements.
Personally I think this is funny. We are arguing over the properties of non-existent mythological beings invented by people who believed the world was flat. The theologians of the Catholic Church determined that Angels don't in fact have free will. Perhaps the only meant lower angels ? In any case, free will is a contentious issue, which the Calvinists completely reject in favor of the more logical "predestination", which is at least compatible with an omniscient deity.
Free Will is a testament to God's omniscience, not a contradiction. It's funny you mention Calvinism because I happen to be Presbyterian(Calvinist) and while I don't agree with John Calvin's view on free will and predestination I am certainly familiar with the concepts. God knows that only through free will can his creations have a divine purpose. Satan's fall along with man is part of his plan. God has, is and will continue to make good out all of Satan's evil (Fortunate Fall).
So you're a Calvinist who doesn't accept the central and defining theological characteristic of Calvinism ? Can't you see that within the constraints of theology, that St. Augustine's whole construction of free will is incompatible with an omniscient deity ? How can god know everything if he doesn't know what we will do next ? In any case, your opinion would have had you burned by your fellow Calvinists as a heretic back in the 1600s.

Actually on an impartial scale of morals, if you read the Bible and take all the things God did and all the things Satan did, you'd have to conclude that God is a lot more evil than Satan. This is hardly surprising however as God is the author of Good and Evil and so is the true source of evil. So for my money, the question is, why worship either of these ghastly critters when you can worship so many other better entities (if you feel you have to worship something).

What I'm saying is, based on a book which Christians need to think is the WORD OF GOD (lolz) we can actually do some objective data mining. Using rules of ethics, well established in Philosophy, we can get proving stuff within that frame of reference. I admit it's about as scientific as the way Christians measured the age of the Earth via the Bible, but it matters to them, and that's just plain funny.

I'm not apathetic toward it, but I find it to be an irrelevant argument. Since we cannot prove yes/no, it should not have an effect on our behavior. I refuse to say there is a God and I refuse to say there isn't.
If there is, we aren't supposed to understand it, otherwise we would already.
We should try to be the best people we can be simply because it's good for everyone and everything on the planet.

For goodness sake. Do the dead get up and walk around ? No, they rot away. If you had ever worked in a surgery you would know that we are just amazingly complex pieces of meat. All the mythology was just there as a form of barely semi-effective crowd control. Until you face that fact you are always someone's puppet. We are not beautiful unique snowflakes, all that poetic religious guff is purely palliative. Dead is dead.

Firstly I don't preach, I argue against religion because it is a completely irrational worldview. By saying that arguing against religion is counterproductive you are implying that you think religion is actually beneficial. The evidence of psychological studies indicates that it is at best irrelevant to human behavior, and at worst actively detrimental, in that it encourages behavior based on spurious reasoning that ends in catastrophic failure. You are showing your bias.

Actually the Bible does not attribute the source of evil to God nor does it describe God as the "author of good and evil". In this particular context (origin of evil) the word evil should refer to Sin and Death, as the two were the product of Satan's rebellion against God. Some speculate that he was the spirit of denial, hence his negation of God's authority. Nevertheless, the source of evil is Satan. Your misunderstand of the Bible's depiction of God lacks factual support.

The author of evil is its true source, and that is your grubby little Hebrew deity, by its own apparent admission in its own little book. An all-knowing and all-powerful god must have designed Satan to rebel, which is somewhat contradictory as angels don't have free will, being extensions of the deity etc. I am still amused that anyone can take this nonsensical myth cycle seriously, Buddhism makes far more sense if you must believe in "something". Yet people persist in this obvious nonsense.

All of God's creations have free will, including all the heavenly beings. Your argument has no factual support, unless you're arguing that YOU believe that God created the heavenly beings without free will. I thought you had at least a basic understanding of the representation of God according to CHRISTIAN doctrine. One of the fundamental concepts of Christianity is that free will is instilled in all of God's creations. Please read up on this before making foolish statements.

Personally I think this is funny. We are arguing over the properties of non-existent mythological beings invented by people who believed the world was flat. The theologians of the Catholic Church determined that Angels don't in fact have free will. Perhaps the only meant lower angels ? In any case, free will is a contentious issue, which the Calvinists completely reject in favor of the more logical "predestination", which is at least compatible with an omniscient deity.

Free Will is a testament to God's omniscience, not a contradiction. It's funny you mention Calvinism because I happen to be Presbyterian(Calvinist) and while I don't agree with John Calvin's view on free will and predestination I am certainly familiar with the concepts. God knows that only through free will can his creations have a divine purpose. Satan's fall along with man is part of his plan. God has, is and will continue to make good out all of Satan's evil (Fortunate Fall).

So you're a Calvinist who doesn't accept the central and defining theological characteristic of Calvinism ? Can't you see that within the constraints of theology, that St. Augustine's whole construction of free will is incompatible with an omniscient deity ? How can god know everything if he doesn't know what we will do next ? In any case, your opinion would have had you burned by your fellow Calvinists as a heretic back in the 1600s.

Some of the weirdest depictions of Satan I've seen are a blond guy angel with breasts, a purple-skinned demon in a leather jacket and black jeans, and a limbless dragon with a skull head. This is one of the funniest though.
