@1mnmfan The Rubber duck belonged to the woman's youngest son who had drowned in the bathtub.

I guess the youngest son was taking a bath with the rubber duck & the mother went down the stairs, leaving him unattended. When the mother came back to check on him and discovered her son's dead body in the bathtub, the rubber ducky was missing.  Basically it was proof that the older boy had drowned his little brother, b/c he kept the duck as a souvenir.

Fantastic Thriller! Macaulay Culkin's psychotic acting in this movie was totally brilliant. He's so talented actor. I don't understand why he isn't so popular nowdays. Elijah Wood is farrrr not so talented as Culkin but he is superstar now.

If that is so, why did Roger Ebert (the best-known film critic in the US) call Elijah Wood the most talented actor in his age group in Hollywood history? Most critics said that EW acted Mac off the screen in The Good Son. As for Lord of the Rings, everyone involved was blown away by Wood (ditto most film critics and audiences) - you have only to read some of the comments by Peter Jackson, Ian McKellen etc on his acting and his whole personality. The trilogy would have failed without him.

i don't exactly understand, how someone once mentioned that macaulay's role in this movie ruined his entire reputation. On the contrary, didn't it make him a flexible character? I don't quite get it either, that he's not doing films like this, of course in an adult role, but something that would match up to this film's kind of level, or even more. This film is one of the best suspense movies in the entire hollywood history. Culkin strikes me as a methodist-actor here, and a good one at that.

The director says that The Good Son is about evil. But what the f*ck is evil? I mean, Henry is just a mentally ill character who shows signs of anti-social personality disorder at an early age. I know it's quite rare but it does happen in real life. That's just my take on this flick.

Though he did intellectually understand that his behavior was wrong but didn't care so he wouldn't be seen as mentally ill according to the law.
