Protection from enemy is not the primary reason for masking. The mask, paliacate, does not cover the whole face. A large part of the face is exposed so indetification is easy.
..In 1995 the goverment identified him by comparing the part of the face not covered by the mask with a photo of him...so i m afraid you have to read more...if masks were only for protection they would wear like the ones that the police or the army do.
