very well done!! vocal technique of the choir is exceptional. the group also has an excellent blend, and the parts are well balanced. not an easy piece at all. modulations are executed very well. dynamic contrast is wonderful. if i had to make a constructive comment it would be that i wish the [o] vowels were purer from the men in places (be careful of the sneaking diphthongs), put that is being picky. this is stunning, especially from a high school group. congratulations!
I thought that was very well done and was quite musical. Having sung the piece both live and on a recording with a professional choir, I can testify to how difficult it is. Congratulations.
I sang this song as a senior in high school and I think your sound is great except for the "whiteness" of your pronunciation of the Spanish text. I'm white and it makes me wince. This piece is gently passionate, musically and lyrically (re-read the English translation) and the lack of a correct accent makes it lack its depth and passion, despite the prettiness & unity of the sound.
Admittedly, Australia probably has a lot less Spanish speakers than the US.
don't worry! you are really great! you should be so proud. i'm a senior in college, going into music. i think you sound like a college choir. great blend and very artistic! people on youtube just like to look smart and are overly critical.
i thought it was great! however it started to go rather sharp at the end of each phrase. and the t's need to be a little more dentailsed but it was great for a high school choir!
Well as one of the kids in the choir that singing this piece we greatly appreciate our comments... we put alot of hard work into this and the 3 other pieces
hey, i go to henry sibley high school and we sang this song in 2007. I really liked it and was one of my favorite songs of that year. Though during the fast section here we took that the regular slow speed.
I will admit. A HS choir singing MORTEN LAURIDSEN was scaring me a little bit. But you guys did an amazing job with this! I'd focus a little more on blend with the other voices part as there were moments (during the end) that it kind of had voices sticking out. Great job!
This song's lyrics are absolutely beautiful and bursting with emotion. You guys do a good job but you need to read the english translation to fully understand what you are singing. It was far too mechanical it needs to need to have highs and lows just like the way we speak . The fast section was supposed to be fast but not that fast otherwise the phrases lose their savor and they go by without the audience taking in any of the music.
Ah--- so good. BUT the fast section was totally unnecessary. And ruined it for me. it ruins the intent of the poem to me. Truly, it's about love and life, and the gentleness of both of those things... and the quickening of the tempo makes those things, which are meant to be gentle and loving, seem rushed and less fragile, as they are.
Well, the piece is supposed to quicken there, but yes, it's not supposed to be THAT FAST, I believe the fastest it's supposed to go is quarter note = 82, and the section after that, before the forte "Cuando yo muero" should have been slower and could have built up to a little more towards a fortissimo, as that is the climax of the entire piece.
This was one of my favorite songs we did when I was in high school. We sang it back in 2006. Sounds great, although we sang it quite a bit slower. Keep up the good work
I thought it actually was pretty easy compared to whitacre and stuff. but I was a tenor, and I don't know what section you were in. I loved this piece so much...
lol, i posted that comment a week after the song was introduced to us. I sing tenor too. Now i could sing that song on a dime if asked to...at least my part, lol. It's actually pretty easy once you get it down.

Very good for a high school choir. But I'm not a fan of the fast section. That's just my person opinion though.

Definitely our most emotional.

The notes are spot on, 95% of the time, which is great, but actually, I really would have liked MORE emotion. it was kinda dull at times
