  • Mamma mia! Secondo me, benche' siano famosi, sono sottovalutati.

  • I love the bridge in this track. Bought the album on CD 8 or 9 years ago and I still enjoy listening to it.

  • Such a beautiful song

  • Dave, thank you. Absolute masterpiece and I also feel it is a miracle as was so many many others that followed

  • It's a shame that many will live and die and never get to hear this masterpiece. It isn't even played on indie or college stations. Stagnation is a miracle from start to finish: the gentle acoustic guitars in the beginning, the incredible organ solo, the different vocal deliveries throughout. It just speaks right to your soul. And just think, they were mere lads of 20 when they recorded this! Genius at such a young age...

  • I KNOOOOOW WHAT I LIIIIIIKE...... AND I LIIIIIIIKE WHAT I KNOOOOW....... GETTING BETTER....... IN YOUR WARDROBE..... STEPPING ONE... BEHIND.... YOUR SHOW.....

  • @eurojammer47 you clicked the wrong video dude.... this is not I Know what I Like.....

  • @juandhaltrich hee hee u hit the nail on the head there!

  • This is Genesis' favourite song from Trespass, which is saying a lot because I think this is a masterpiece. Tony's keyboard-solo is absolutely mind-blowing, also because of the energy in the drums. Can't sit still!

  • I SOLD MY ORIGINAL GENESIS LP COLLECTION BEFORE SOME YEARS.... HOLLY SHIT!!!!! I AM A IDIOT!!!!!!

  • @aramin01 It happens my friend. I bought the original albums in the 70's and kept everyone of them and now 40 years later I moved from the UK to Thailand with all my 1000 lp's and every day I listen to my favourite tunes whilst having a drink in my pool.

  • And Genesis sang "Let there be song," and we listened; and on the subsequent tracks they made heaven and the angels and made melodic the stories of man, and it was good.

  • Best genesis song

  • The song is about a man who emerges from under the earth after Armageddon.

  • Its MORE than God in Heaven... nobody can beat this beautifullness !!!

  • Trespass=criminally underrated album!

  • PG with Genesis IS and WILL always be THE best progrock EVERRRRRRRR!!!!!

  • there's gnesis &yes and damned little to choose twixt the two s0206102224@yahoo.com

  • Peter Gabriel brought the theatrical effect and the class

Phil Collins brought the rhythmic complexity

    Tony Banks brought the virtuosity

Steve Hackett brought the progressive world...

    Mike Rutherford brought the band

and Anthony Phillips brought the English charm and the pastoral universe that typifies Genesis

Indeed, he brought some of the most important thing that made Genesis look so unique

  • @DuketheFish73 :

And,according to you,who brought beauty and poetry in the band? Each Musician? =)

  • GUYS, GUYS!

Quit talking; this is one of my favorite songs!

  • Sunny England, endless miles of green fields and mysterious forests. The imagery for this beautiful tune is endless. Especially after a joint. God bless the delicious talents of Gabble Ratchet. Shine Son.......

  • sorry phil

  • genesis the most sad music in the world love them

  • I just adore the organ part from 2:06 - 2:55. It's so dreamy.

  • This song is soo powerful & beautiful it almost hurts.

  • They will never make an album like this one...ever again. It's all but perfect.

  • And will I wait forever ,beside the silent mirror ,and fish for bitter minnows,

  • Thx to my brother Glenn who , who was/ is a musician, introduced me, his younger brother to Genesis & this album back in 1972-3.I am eternally grateful.Brings back tons of great memories.Thx for the post & thx for youube!

  • I first saw Genesis in Cambridge in 1972 I think I payed 50p for the ticket and we managed to go backstage and meet the group and have along chat with them after the gig. I got Trespass and Nursery Cryme albums signed and then had them nicked 4 years later from my flat in London. This old stuff is so much better than the later albums after Foxtrot although there are flashes of genius on Lamb

  • @heracleummantagazzi Flashes? tsk tsk tsk! A true Genesis fan takes each album as they are; a separate complete masterpiece. I love " And Then There were three" as much as I love this album; Well ok, I will admit stagnation and visions of angels does move me a little more. But... The differences in love I have for all their albums is negligible. Like the love of ones' siblings. There is no better or worse it's just Genesis. The whole is better than the sum of its parts.

  • ever green classic rock

  • The very best music of the seventies years genius and harmony!!!

    Pauljohngrazz.

  • "I want to sit down" and "I want a drink."to wash out the filth that is deep in my guts!

  • OK I Finally get it........ This is genesis... "In The Womb". I have never heard this song before, I have been a genesis fan for a long time I hear the roots, of Suppers ready

  • one of my faves ever XD it's just beautiful!!!!!

  • Trespass gets slagged as a not quite great Genesis LP....wrong. Everything is clear in production, Crime and Foxtrot are sonically much worse but their best bits are rendered masterful on Seconds Out so I am maybe being a bit harsh. Wait there still is time for washing in the pool... wash away the past

  • Wow, I had forgotten how great this tune really is until I heard it just now! Man Genesis slays!!!!!

  • wish i could have been around back then:( AMAZING!

  • Sweet and melanchonic!

  • Trespass is the most underrated album of all time

  • :0)

  • If anybody asks me who is my favorite band or what my favorite music is, I will always know the answer

  • estasi...

  • Artsy Genesis.....The best.

    vedrai mai i confini ..

  • I was reading Lord of the Rings when I first listened to this album. To me, the 2 shall always kind of fit together. The cover is Eowyn and Faramir in the Houses of Healing.

  • @Anglagard1 not that I don't completely agree and love this assessment, but I just find it funny that this is a top-rated comment: clearly we are not the only two who think that prog and lord of the rings go together (I first read lord of the rings when I was obsessed with Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick; to me they always go hand in hand). greatness.

  • @tarantinosnumber1fan I'm always surprised at which posts of mine are appreciated and which are completely ignored.

  • Yes .. I believe the poetic fantasticus ..... this is collossal!!!

  • @worldcitizenforever Simply - pure - magic!!!

  • la mejor recopilación de genesis

  • In love with minute 5:05 :)

  • @1981rael And I like before... )))

  • Love this song so much! I wish I would have lived in the 70's...

  • My favorite song of Genesis!!! The best music ever!!!!!!! Timeless.....

  • My favorite song of Genesis!!! The best music ever! Timeless..... :D

  • Prog is the music genre Jesus listens to

  • @ProgDrummerQ hahaha!! Likeit.

  • Trespass is ok as a historical document, but Genesis hadn't really gotten it together yet at this point.

  • Genesis is Genesis forever..!

  • beautifull!! to make tears roll down...

  • to me the sounds banks pumps out of his lousy hammond dwarfes all other keyboard wizards ala emerson and wakeman - this is so passionate music, they are simply outwordly great!!!

did you know john lennon was a huge genesis - fan!

  • @MoveOverCasanova Never heard before that John Lennon was a big Genesis fan. Where did you hear that? thanks

  • @captainzub

sorry, i don´t remember, it was some article

  • great music, great album ..For me , A Trick of the Tail was the last great ambum from Genesis. They even should change the name of the group. They stop to think in great music in order to think in money ..

  • @sbuassali blabla

  • @sbuassali I actually found some redeeming qualities in Wind and Wuthering as well.... You could see, tho, by the end of ....And Then There Were Three, they were ready to leave the Gabriel type songs and go more mainstream.... At the same time, Gabriel's first solo album was the same, except he left the style after the first song... Either way...a great collection of albums by the group as they were.

  • great music, great album ..

  • 1970s prog rock............rock on

  • subbed u man - so greatful you put this up - words cant express!

  • stupid question, what does Stagnation mean?

  • @tigeraven2112

To become, or remain stagnant, or still, without change.

  • @BitterBosh

    ERROR

Never use the word you are defining in its definition.

  • @tigeraven2112 Going round in circles... ceasing to progress... stuck in the same ways... that kind of thing...

  • God in Heaven .... what a beautiful song

  • I WANNA DRINK!!!!!!!!

  • The most impressive piece, they´ve ever did. I love this song.

  • again a wonderful song by peter and genesis! (music and lyrics)

  • Steampunk? what an ugly word. SOLID liquid is what I call it. Dare I say... Stagnant? Nailed an Idea, even if most dislike the very concept of "Stagnation", despite the fact we live it. If you think this version wanting, listen to some live cuts of it.Then you'll "fish for bitter minnows" in the echo of that mellotron.

  • The music is wonderful but some of the lyrics are a bit weak especially the "I want a drink" part. Then again, they were 20 years old so forgivable. Like the early use of synth and mellotron on this track.

  • @splicernyc : "I want to sit down" and "I want a drink."

Fatigue and thirst : two of the symptoms of radiation poisoning. For 20 year olds, they amaze.

  • @Gruntol5

That's the amazing thing. Genesis were so poetic, lyrically, especially Peter & Tony. They KNOW what they are writing about. Go read the lyrics to "Cinema Show" it's unbelievable the breadth of knowledge these lads have.

  • @Gruntol5 I beg you to let me know. You mean that the lyrics of the song imply that all but the only man who didn't die fainted from radiation poisoning?

What does the song talk about then?

Where did you got this from?

  • when i hear the part at 0:57, i always envision an eagle taking off from a mountain cliff and gliding on the breeze! :) it's nice to listen to this whole piece with eyes closed - conjures up so many mental images!

  • i love this track!! :) very atmospheric! they played chords like nobody else. i love the use of minor 9's, like at 0:57.

  • despite all the wonderful songs Genesis produced after this - I still keep playing this song - it's for me everyting the Band is about. (Apart from a couple of songs, I lost interest after Peter left - does anyone feel the same ?)

    Paul

  • Meraviglia delle meraviglie... grazie Genesis!

  • scientifically beautiful !

  • 3:05 makes for great cruising music on a long road trip.

  • magical feelings are hidden in this music.

  • i agree with you!! ;)

  • pastoralic and peaceful !

  • Dios dIOS dIOSSSS

    IMPRESIONANTE

  • ha! this lp was a big classik in Europe and US!! lot of group was inspired by this.

  • only Genesis!!!

  • Someone start a petition to get the tommygun version back on. I'll sign it. We can also boycott WMG and their subsidiaries hitting them in their pocket always helps.

  • Absolutely! I loved that video and I was SO disappointed when they took it off youtube!

  • where is "LOOKING FOR SOMEONE"one of the best GENESIS songs EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • my third favourite genesis song

  • Awesome, this is my favorite song from Trespass albúm. Thanks for posting!!.

  • A great track.probebly the best on tresspass. I wish i lived to see the day. Dont you. They were called the second Beatles and i agree with what they said. Where did you get this anyway? LOVING IT!

  • Awesome,my Favourite track on the album, pity Genesis could'nt live to the high standard's,i can never tire of listening

    to this song

  • Does anyone know why the best Stagnation video (The one that starts out with the Atomic Bomb being dropped) on Youtube was pulled and can someone upload the video file back on?

  • That version (by Genesis fan "Tommygun") was pulled off YouTube by the dreaded WMG (Warners Music Group), supposedly for "copyright infringement." Tommygun explains elsewhere that he doesn't know why they picked on that one. Damned shame! Stagnation remains one of the most amazing piece of rock music of all time.

  • Thanks for mentioning. I was looking for that upload about 3 weeks ago and couldn't find it anywhere. Not that any upload of this work of art isn't a great thing in itself.

  • Awesome!! I just love this song since always !!

  • I hate to read on the net that Trespass is a bad album..It's a brilliant stuff with great songs: Looking for someone, White Mountain, and my personal favourite Stagnation, The Knife..just compare it with 'From Genesis to Revelation' (I love their first album too...but there's their music developed in so many ways between 1968-1970). I wish I could turn back time and sit in the front row on this gig.:)

  • the best genesis song, no doubts about it!!!

  • Ok somebody, let's get the video back onto You-Tube! Did anyone download it before You-Tube pulled it?

  • RIP John Mayhew.

  • pure harmony. it cures the soul...

  • My favorite song from this album!

  • Me too. I can't see how they could have done better on the instrumental aspect of the song.

  • Actually, some harps at some places would have been wonderful, especially from 4:33 onwards.

  • @Daisycapper2 This is the best album !!!

  • I grew up with this music and it's nice to know there's some kindrid spirits out there!

  • I've been a Genisis fan since the 70s. Love Peter Gabriel and his mystical and ethereal lyrics.

  • Sounded fantastic in the 70's sounds fantastic today. I agree an under appriciated piece of music that many will never hear.

  • Music is rarely so beatiful as to make a hard-hearted cynic like me cry...but this does. I find myself asking 'how is this not known more?'

  • I think I might know why. Some of this early Genesis music requires a little patience to get to the heavy, hard hitting stuff. This song is a great example. And most people, Americans especially, don't have that patience. Plus i think when people find out its old, from the early 70s, they kind of tune out. Since they've never heard of it before, what could possibly make it so good? But i agree with you, I'm a patient person and i love every bit, every second of this music...nothing else like it!

  • I could have wrote that comment myself. I agree with you, and the patience is not only in the listener, it's also in the artist. Fast made heavy marketed mainstream music can be good for the ear of the average listener, and drive masses, but thats also the music that you get used to too fast and soon it's history. Songs like this just get better the more patience you have, and the more times you listen it, which in it's nature, is beautiful.

  • Exactly. And the beginning of most early Genesis songs are not that appealing to the masses, because they somewhat "boring" to the average listener. But just about every song has these hidden gems deep into the song that the average listener will never get to. Ex: the keyboard solo in this song; guitar solo in firth of fifth is 7 min. into the song; Supper's Ready gets legendary almost 13 min. in; 2nd half of Cinema Show; Can Utility; ; i could go on and on. Who wouldnt like this keyboard solo?

  • i apparently had the patience when i was 12 years old, when i walked four miles in the snow to buy this record. i was just getting into early genesis, and had seen it at the store when i didn't have the money, so when i finally got the seven bucks together i walked down there. i was a strange kid. anyway, to this day, when i hear anything off this album, i think of snow.

  • @joeyrsbest walk you have ever done worth every step

  • wow i agree completely with both of you. I find Genesis as more of an acquired taste. At first I liked them but wasn't the biggest fan. But now I can't get enough of them. There so melodic and exciting to listen to because they don't disappoint.

  • Comment removed

  • I've always knows early Genesis fans as nice people. Please keep the tradition.

  • You are right. My bad, I apologize. I just find it hard to let it go when someone verbally attacks me like that, especially over something like musical tastes. Won't happen again MisterQuebec. I am a nice person i just dont put up with idiots like that. My apoligies.

  • Anthony Phillip's magic touch makes all the difference. No one could have done it better than he did.

  • @SparrowisSexy yes! radio, when cd's came out in the early 80's, "killed" album rock radio, but now we have youtube, addictive though it may be! Anthony Phillips superb song! He SHOULD HAVE BEEN ON STAGE WITH THE BAND at the Rock&roll induction ceremony, and why didn't mike rutherford mention Ant, his friend! maybe he forgot!

  • Everyone I had to listen the bit between 1:18 and 2:58 with headphones almost fell to sleep. This is the best music piece of its style ever made.

  • It is one of my favourites in this song too.

  • A wonderful period for this band. It's quite amazing really to think that this music was coming from a bunch of 20-year-old guys. They just happened to be enormously talented and inventive. Just excellent!

  • I love that they played the last bit of this song on their 2007 tour during I Know What I Like. One of their best way ahead of their time

  • I can't decide which one is the best, this or 'The Knife'. Both so beautiful.

  • Neither is better. It depends what style you want to listen at a particular time.
