I never knew the real meaning of this Song being a girl from Canada and never having been to the south. I grew up listening to Charley and it was never even mentioned that he was a man of color..it was always thats Charley Pride. Love this song and just about anything else he sang.

I love Charlie Pride,I grew up on this style of music......what alot of people don't realise is - that way back when - when african americans in *any* kind of entertainment music field the producers of it always released their 1st albums or so with no photo of the artist on it.....do to heavy racism back in the 50's/60's that was still brewing in many southern states unfortunatley.......but,I am proud of Charlie and others like him-they made it big!!! that makes me happy. :D

Thanks for posting this! I always wondered if he came from a town like that. I love Charlie Pride, always have, always will! My husband is from a town in MS just like this song, and I play it on the way down there every time, and remind my husband that the song is JUST like the town he is from! I knew it!
