Pastors and SECT ! In 1999 i vist a Chirch, american protestant one,or whatever, they say the world will end the same year ,well it didnt happend,do you know why ? Because nobody of them is a MESSIAH ! I will never forgive myself I went there for many motives ! Dont let nobody tell you how you should live with your FAITH ! They use you like laboratory mouse ,they use psychological methods and chemichals to make you think what they want you to think. Its called Brainwashing !
That's right people, if you base your beliefs off of experience you would be able to see through religious bullshit. that's the last thing that people like Mark Driscoll want you to do, use your brain and think critically.
@drewmccoy789 that is not proof of anything except that i am alive and breathing. go read a science book or any book besides the bible. your comment makes me laugh.
@drewmccoy789 also by that logic the Egyptian god Ra must exist because there is a sun. by saying that "you are alive and breathing, that should be more proof than anyone should ever need" than if god does exist than that disproves intelligent design if he expects me to fall for that. in other words, "god" must think that i am really stupid.
@tdrpowerl If by real proof, you mean you want to be able to connect the dots between some physical, observable phenomena (eg., nature) and God, then forget it. God is supernatural; God is spirit. Any argument for God's existence based on physical evidence requires you grant a presumption of God's existence in the first place. That's basically what faith does. My faith is based more on conscience than creation. If you seriously consider sin & judgment, you should be disturbed, and go from there.
You cannot prove or disprove the existance of "God". All of those claims could be fabricated. A voice from heaven could just as easily be a demon hiding in the clouds.
Either you walk by FAITH, or you walk by EYES. Evidence is about your eyes. Even the booming voice from heaven is evidence and evidence can be faked.
Either believe or not in FAITH. Personally, I dont. I'm not a Christian. But if you are going to be one, know the limits of evidence and either choose that or Faith.
@fishintheflow Faith is following the implications of the evidence of God coming to earth, dying on the cross to take our sins, and then 3 days later rising again. I hope you read the Bible... there is none like Jesus and he could change your life and forgive you of your sins. I'm guessing adding that God commands all men to repent (including you) wouldn't hurt. So why aren't you a Christian?
Faith is all about experience. I think it should be "don't base your faith on proof". Anyway, some guy said he was there so everyone from then on out should trust that, and a book written by a few others who in turn had others write about what they had read? Anyone can do that. Look at the FSM. Sure, a farce now, but many may take as gospel and alter the facts. FSM could turn into an alien of sorts. Easy to do 300 years after the fact. Think people, think!

The Word of God is more convincing than experience? That's... interesting.
Let's assume I read Mark's and Luke's gospels everyday. Would faith then, eventually, take root in my heart?

Mr. Driscoll is wrong.
2 Peter 1:19 does not mean that word of prophecy is "more sure" than the experiences Peter had.
It means that those experiences makes the word of prophecy "more sure."

That would be very true if only 1 & 2 Peter were actually written by Peter...

what does Peter mean when he writes about "the prophetic word"? is the Bible we have today the same that he had?

Jesus also said that the world will know that he is the one the father sent by our unity (John 17). This is our greatest evangelistic witness!
