I think this fits the lyrics fine though. I know there aren't just two possibilities, but this cover is so much more than what you're giving it credit for. Instead of throwing the emotions out there in an inappropriate way that can seem fake, they hold back a bit. It's gentle and a bit slow, but I think it works. Love is supposed to be someone special between two people, and I think it's fine to be expressed this way: like a secret that you have to whisper.

But this song has it's own way of expressing that same emotion. Even if it makes you feel like you're at a funeral, it would make me feel like the most special person in the world.

Too slow. For me, there is emotion in such a cover. It ought to be more punchy, without piano chords and more crunchy Tele, sustained with the bass. I am sure you can perform a punchier version, that will provide emotion instead of a too smooth song. This song is an ode to love, not a song for funeral. Yours is too sad. It doesn't give me any fellings to love and to be loved, but to go to an obituary.
