Holy fuck i wanted to see that combination , i have at track ir 5 and when i saw the somy hmz t1 i knew a combination of them both would be mind blowing "!
@icecyb1 WoW and Skyrim are not designed with head tracking in mind. Despite this the TrackIR system does a fantastic job in adapting the head tracking technology to almost any game. The only software I used was included with TrackIR. Works really well.
I know that Arma 2 is using trackIR 5 but what about other FPS like RAGE or Crysis 2 have you tryied thise games ? or maybe others FPS games. I realy like to get a trackIR 5 but only if it works with other games and i primary play FPS.
I got a Trackir 5 and im woundering now how to setup to other games other than the ones thats already on the list. I cant figu out how to setup the trackir to let me look around in FSP can you tell me how you did ?
SONY needs to employ you dude, this is one thing missing from the viewer that would make games more immersive! (A toggle on & off option of course for this mode if it was available of course).
Also, if anyone has any time spare, I have a review for the HMZ-T1 up on my channel if anyone is interested. :))
great video. I'm a battlefield player, not sure TrackIR5 is the right choice for FPS though, 'cause in FPS games you do a lot aiming and shooting, both require precisely positioning your crosshair, from the video it seems TrackIR5 may break your neck by trying hard to do fine controls. Another question: which one has the override, the mouse or TrackIR 5?
@segaboy1983 in some games like Arma II for example, when you move your head around it actually moves the camera only, your weapon is still controlled with the right stick. so you can look around you, see the enemy and then use the right stick to aim at him.
@AndrewDaniele87 great setup in Arma, hopefully future's FPS will be like this and our head views and hands motion could be separated in game for real. thanks
Is there a delay between moving the head and seeing the actual viewpoint movement? I bet yes (there just cannot technically be no delay), but how noticeable and annoying it is?
@amyodov With the gyro based tracking systems I noticed a delay and some shaking. Thats why I went with the TrackIR system. The camera runs at 120hz so its freakin responsive. It also filters noise so its silky smooth.
@iphwne Well, gyro-based is obviously not a match for this headset, so it is not worthy to discuss anything besides TrackIR then...
"Filtering the noise" sounds like an incapability of tracking the tiny movements (sorry I don't have TrackIR so have to guess and may say something what sounds completely idiotic for anybody who has one).
@iphwne And 120hz tracking sound great theoretically, but the whole roundtrip time... in general, how wildly you have to twist you head to start feel the virtual world is not where your mind expects it to be?
Have you tried it in games that actually do TrackIR well? Cause TrackIR is amazing in games that support it compared to the games you showed in the video. Native trackIR support is hella smooth and responsive. There are some free games you can check out as well. Although they are simulators. There's Live For Speed (not need for speed) and Aces High 2. Both have demos. Live for Speed is probably the easiest one to check out. Small download, great game. Amazing if you have a racing wheel.
@iphwne keep us posted. I am super excited about this tech :) And now that people are saying there's a gaming model with tracking hardware on the way I'm even more excited :)If they drop the built in headphones I'm pretty much going to wet myself in excitement.
This kind of head-tracking would only really work well, if the game has independent head movement and body movement. The idea is for you to be able to look around you, not move your body when you turn your head.
A game with such dynamics + an equipment like this would be an amazing experience I imagine.
@iphwne obviously with the constraints of a cable preventing you from doing complete 360 degree body turns can you change the settings of the trackir to behave more like an analog stickn (such as holding your head to the left to keep turning left?)..... if so does it feel natural and do you know of any links for further information or videos regarding this? your help would be greatly appreciated!
@ezmo55 The software with TrackIR allow you to set ranges and acceleration. The more I approach a 90 degree turn to the left / right, the faster I go to ensure I can reach a 180 view in game. This is configurable on a game-by-game basis as well.
Now to me it looked like there was fairly minimal movement when turning from side to side and especially up/down. I would presume there are settings that increase or decrease how quickly and how far the screen moves when you turn your head.
Is this correct? If not then I don't think it would be worth getting. Moving my mouse would provide a faster response and be as accurate as I am. I just hope I could say the same thing about this.
@iphwne - That's good to know. Though I recently checked the list of games that TrackIR supports, or rather of games that support TrackIR, and unfortunately for around $150 USD it's not worth it for me.
If games like Battlefield 3, upcoming Guild Wars 2, and numerous other popular driving/racing and FPS games supported this then I would jump all over it. I'm sure it's epic for Skyrim and I do love that game but for that price, for one game, eh.. :(
@7rak3r Skyrim isn't in the supported games list. Neither is WoW. I'm using the mouse movement mode. This gives you up/down and left/right. The supported games usually have full 6 degrees of movement. This will work with any game that uses a mouse to move.
I've tried this on First Person shooters, works just as well. I do most of my aiming with the mouse still, but look around with the head tracking.
@iphwne - Oh ok I didn't realize that. I noticed WoW and Skyrim didn't show. I figured Skyrim was just too new to be on the list and I shrugged my shoulders as to why WoW was not.
If I'm interpreting what you said correctly then that would work out well for a game like BF3. I use the mouse to aim where I'm going to shoot etc and when I turn my head the aim doesn't change, just my view/perspective. In that case I could put that on the x-mas list. Now BF3 just needs to fix bugs! Thanks.
It's too bad Skyrim (or most First Person games) doesn't have native support for head tracking. It would be so great to detach the head and eyes from the body.
Wow, very, very impressive, iphwne! I left some further questions for discussion in the AVS forum's HMZ-T1 dedicated owner thread - I would very much appreciate getting more info there... Thumbs up!

One thing i dont get of this.
When you look to your left ( like really far to the left ) to look far to your left in the game.
You probably wont see your screen anymore ^_^
