@Lerakon2, it is SPECULATED that 1-4% of the genetic makeup of several modern races MIGHT be linked to neanderthal ancestry, but it has not been proven. It is not confirmed beyond a doubt that there was enough genetic similarity between neanderthals and cro-magnons for offspring to result from such a union.

You're welcome to write a paper on how the research claiming this to be the case is wrong, but until the mainstream scientific community relevant to this field accepts it then I'll stick with the interbreeding hypothesis.
And regardless, my point in the argument was that the Neanderthals were very similar to us. This can be seen in their DNA, it is much closer to ours than chimp's DNA.

Very intreresting. We here in Gibraltar lost our place in history. The neanderthal man should have been called the Gibraltar woman. Gibraltar has proved that it was one of the last places in the world that was neandethals inhabited.
Neandertals were off shoots of an archaic form (Rhodesensis, Hiedelbergensis, or one of the sapient versions) of hominin that came in from the caucasses into Europe more than 100 millenia ago. That would explain the diversity of the different base pair sequences. The older Neandertals (western) have been found to be incompatible with modern H.Sapiens, but the ones that continued to breed with the archaic hominins, became compatible with the modern H. Sapiens that eventually came in from Africa.
This, outside of a not too complete the sequence, would explain why there has been such a question about two different types of DNA sequences. H. Sapiens did not evolve, but they could have bred with the younger Neandertals because of their continued interaction with the earlier hominin species that made us as they ventured east. It is those specimens that demonstrate our 4% , or so in those peoples that originate from the east. Both Neandertals, and H. Sapiens have a common link from that area

@arsjth: ToE says that they will have, in 200,000 yrs, made adaptations to their environment. For most of that time their environment is cold, but its a lot more than that. It's mountainous, forested, seasonal, watered, etc, etc. All of that plays a part, and then there's competition, which is also adapting. Then again, it appears they didn't die out; they merged. Evolution is slow, requiring thousands of generations, usually. Adaptation is faster, reusing genes that haven't yet been trashed.
@arsjth: Adaptation involves using the mix of genes already in the population (though perhaps not in all individuals). Many of these may be genes that were useful in a former environment; as they become not useful they tend to mutate away to total uselessness, but if it was not overly long ago some of the gene, or one that is mutated but not in the active area may become useful once again. This and epigenetics allow adaptation within a few to very few generations. See wiki, "adaptation".

Evolution doesn't work on individuals; it works on populations. Populations have variation - diversity, in the modern phrase. If a individual has an odd trait that proves useful to a group because of sudden change in the environment, then the group doesn't need to wait for a mutation, does it?

That guy in this video looks so stupid and ugly. There are other reconstructions of the Neanderthals which make them look no less beautiful than the people of the present time. It's all based on the artist's conception, and it is a fact that those artists have promoted the Neanderthals from ape-like beasts to people looking very similar to the people of the present time, especially the Europeans.

It is not confirmed beyond a doubt that there was enough genetic similarity between neanderthals and cro-magnons for offspring to result from such a union.

You're welcome to write a paper on how the research claiming this to be the case is wrong, but until the mainstream scientific community relevant to this field accepts it then I'll stick with the interbreeding hypothesis.
And regardless, my point in the argument was that the Neanderthals were very similar to us. This can be seen in their DNA, it is much closer to ours than chimp's DNA.

Neandertals, particularly, went extinct due to the fact that Homo sapiens out competed them. Homo sapiens have extra connections between three regions of the brains that allow them an extra level of thinking. Due to this ability, which is evidenced by their production of art, etc. they were better able to communicate across multiple social groups, allowing for more reproductive success, as they were less isolated than Neandertals.

Neandertals were off shoots of an archaic form (Rhodesensis, Hiedelbergensis, or one of the sapient versions) of hominin that came in from the caucasses into Europe more than 100 millenia ago. That would explain the diversity of the different base pair sequences. The older Neandertals (western) have been found to be incompatible with modern H.Sapiens, but the ones that continued to breed with the archaic hominins, became compatible with the modern H. Sapiens that eventually came in from Africa.

This, outside of a not too complete the sequence, would explain why there has been such a question about two different types of DNA sequences. H. Sapiens did not evolve, but they could have bred with the younger Neandertals because of their continued interaction with the earlier hominin species that made us as they ventured east. It is those specimens that demonstrate our 4% , or so in those peoples that originate from the east. Both Neandertals, and H. Sapiens have a common link from that area

2:55 shows the fabricated connecting cartilage and breast plate. The size and shape of those dictate the shape of the ribcage. How did they decide how those should look? It also appears that the ribs are set too wide as they go down, creating a stair step effect instead of a smooth wall.

eskimos have been isolated for no more than 15.000 years, honestly you hope to see major evolutionary changes? Neanderthals have been separated from H.Sapiens at least 200.000 years.

survival of the fittest. if neanderthals adapted especially to th cold it was to prevent them dying out wasnt it!
Y would the same cold not have that affect on Eskimos? because they wear warm clothes/skins & use fire.
If the cold hasnt affected eskimos now...when will it? Y would it when their survival clearly doesnt depend on it?
Neanderthals also lived & mixed with H sapiens.u wouldnt recognize them as another species.

@arsjth: ToE says that they will have, in 200,000 yrs, made adaptations to their environment. For most of that time their environment is cold, but its a lot more than that. It's mountainous, forested, seasonal, watered, etc, etc. All of that plays a part, and then there's competition, which is also adapting. Then again, it appears they didn't die out; they merged. Evolution is slow, requiring thousands of generations, usually. Adaptation is faster, reusing genes that haven't yet been trashed.

@arsjth: Adaptation involves using the mix of genes already in the population (though perhaps not in all individuals). Many of these may be genes that were useful in a former environment; as they become not useful they tend to mutate away to total uselessness, but if it was not overly long ago some of the gene, or one that is mutated but not in the active area may become useful once again. This and epigenetics allow adaptation within a few to very few generations. See wiki, "adaptation".

@arsjth: Like most pithy comments, this is half true and half false.
Evolution doesn't work on individuals; it works on populations. Populations have variation - diversity, in the modern phrase. If a individual has an odd trait that proves useful to a group because of sudden change in the environment, then the group doesn't need to wait for a mutation, does it?
In stead of trying to trap me in some sort of heresy, why don't you try learning and understanding how things work instead?

@arsjth: Unfortunately for you, nature is not a simpleton. It is a complex system and it has complex behaviors. I mentioned above a reference that does a good job explaining it; apparently you didn't bother to read it, you just declare it unfit with whatever your word du jour is and high-five yourself. If certainty is your goal rather than accuracy, them you are apparently headed in the right direction.

as usual you equivocate on the meaning. who denies things change? That is one meaning of evolution that no one denies.
How did you become accepting of things that are unprovable?
If you accept that all creatures came from one common ancestor then u believe all genes came from one gene, so genes made themselves, what a wonderful miraculous accident. Hey no problem just dont say that you have proof as you dont have proof of how that first answer came to being.
