Today at work I randomly came up with an idea to make a small multiplayer MMO game with Minecraft style building. Then I wondered if it was somehow possible in RealmCrafter. (I bought in 07 but never got around to making stuff)

I'm sure you get asked this a lot, but is there any way you can shine some light in my direction? I don't really care much for the random generation, but more so just placing blacks on flat terrain so players can construct buildings.

Anyway, amazing work :)

@BiznessMan Its not particularly easy, but its certainly not impossible. This Minecraft implementation is just a simple way of showing the changes you could make; you could change the procedurally build mesh for local ones instead.

@ShaldarmGaming Its very easy to get a game online and running. you can host a server locally while you build and test, though its recommended you shell out for something dedicated when you increase your player count. You cannot made a single player RPG using the engine without significant work.

@DFRevelations That's kind of true, though the basis of this modification is fairly simple. The goal wasn't to 'rip off' Minecraft to create a game to market; instead it is to show the customization abilities that the Realm Crafter engine provides.

@yetshi Its more like Minecraft classic (you can play it for free on the MC site) The actual mining, inventory, crafting and such are already features of the MMORPG engine; the purpose of the video was to demonstrate that the SDK and server are able to produce the basis of this system.

Also, the textures aren't the same.

@Gecktopolis Its pretty far behind the alpha version of MC and is somewhat closer to classic. A complete clone of alpha is far from impossible though. Infact, the way the RCP server works would probably allow a more stable SMP implementation though I won't be putting in the effort to compete with the real game ;)
