Latry playes Messiaen's Dieu parmi Nous

It's totally Biblical. It's impossible for me not to notice new things in it all the time - this time, I happened to realize that the final held chord with the Pedal underneath reminded me of the exact same dissonance with major thirds and minor thirds playing at the same time, created by the Renaissance motets, which, of course, were also about God. Someone should compile a list of these.

Is this incredible recording available on CD? This organ is phenomenal, and the performance reminds me of Fox.

J'apprécie particulièrement l'interprétation de M. Messiaen par Olivier Latry. Il est juste dans cette pièce, si pensée, si mesurée, si concrète et si peu aléatoire. Messiaen est presque maniaque sur les durées et les rythmes, et Monsieur Latry lui offre un splendide hommage en respectant la partition mais aussi l'esprit dans lequel Olivier Messiaen aurait aimé que l'on joue cet oeuvre joyeuse.

but in my opinion, Latry plays only a bit too slow.

it's true: the music is more clear ! but: it's harder to hear the relation between some passages.

This organ sounds incredible! Even with only 50 odds stops here the mixtures are sizzling away and the reeds have real fire! Is this for real?

@ds1868 Now there is 85 stops!! wisit teh weőpage, the organ just got a new bombarde 32 real length stop, the tutti have doubled itself!

@ds1868 Hi! Now there are around 87 stops working: double power:-) And a new 32 foot bombarde had been installed lately. Check out the website you'll find the disposition. This organ is almost Notre-Dame de Paris organ already, and this is not a joke. Latry liked it in 1996 when he played this.

Messiaen passe vraiment bien sur cet orgue, les jeux très aiguës (1/4 de pied?) donnent un son très cristallin vers la fin. C'est un orgue magnifique joué par un grand musicien! Dommage que la qualité de l'enregistrement laisse à désirer...

Only 50 of 147 stops work?!?!?!?!

Isn't this the 10th or 11th largest organ in the world?

Beleive it or not, when Mr. Latry was performing this only 50+ stops were inside. 2 manuals and one windchest for a 3rd manual for temporarly. Now there are around 80 stops working. An almost ready 5th manual in recit. A half done 4th manual, and the main manual and the pedal.

This instrument should have been built at least 10 years ago but due to financing it's been always delayed through the years.

Wow! So they're making progress at a good rate now though? Apparently the design calls for 232 ranks, that's enormous! I hope they finish their work before too long, this would be a great instrument to play, especially with everything as intended!

Well, they're more than half way there, that's a start I suppose. 80 stops is allot! 147 is monstrous!

a big organ costs a lot money so most big organ doesnt work permanent on all stops.

@codeman2008 at this time ther was only 3 manual, and the the third was just a temporarly manual for Mr. Latry. Now the 5th, 4th and 2nd manuals are almost complete, around 85 stops is working out of ~140 stops.

I'm a big Messiaen fan, but I can understand Latry plays it in a way you can hear it, he still is more detached and staccato wich makes Messiaen's music more clear (I suppose that's also true in your case).
