I don't know. Maybe they were scared to death that a Canadian team could have won the World Series for three straight years in the 1990's. The Expos would have smoked the Yankees in 1994, and I think that would have been great for the game.
They'd better make a new sign for when Vladdy retires. Nobody played better baseball in Montreal than #27: 234 HR, 702 RBI, 123 steals and, last but certainly not least, a .323 average.
With his career numbers giving him first-ballot hall-of-fame potential and the fact that he played longer in Montreal than in Anaheim, he will be the third and last Expo in the hall.
Thanks for posting this video. I grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, spring training home of the Expos and home of a Class A minor league team of the Expos. I was unaware of this tribute until tonight.
The problem is that they don't have any space in downtown Montreal for a Baseball Stadium. The Olympic Stadium was ugly but there was something special about it. I'd pay a lot of money to see a baseball game in that stadium once again!
I would love to see baseball make a comeback in Montreal.
But the demographics of the city has changed and most immigrants that have come here in the past 15 years are more interested in soccer than baseball as a summer sport. I'm not saying that it won't happen but it would be a real uphill battle.
@upchuck69 yeah the demographic has changed but don't forget there's a huge Baseball program in Quebec, especially in montreal.. every neighborhood in MTL has a baseball team and they all play VERY hard for the Quebec championships. Once we get a new park, (which they have plenty of place on the island.. it doesn't have to be in the downtown core) there will be a big movement to get a franchise back here.. especially since a few american franchises are failing
Two Things doomed 'The Expos'. One was 94' when the strike ended the march on the Championship. And number two was not getting a new ball-park. For Montreal to have any chance they would have to get a AAA franchise first. Build a new Stadium, and wait for some U.S. franchise to go into the tank.
NO MLB knew about it and they were not mad they prob gave the Expos simble to that hockey team so in 10 years the people who grew up knowing the Expos can tell their kids that there used to be a MLB team in Montreal
i do think so MLB IS VERY GOOD TO EVERYONE THEY EVEN HELP KIDS TO NOT USED DRUGS AND PLAY THE GAME OF BASEBALL MLB RBI AND IM SURE THEY GAVE THE EXPOS SIGEN TO THE HOOCKEY TEAM CAUSE MLB HAD TO ORDER THE SIMBLE
um yes i do i went to c them play every year they didnt ever filled up their stadium ever since the 1994 strike and they left montreal for good after the 2004 season and talked about leaving montreal for years
MLB will never bring the Expos back cause now their the Nats and have a new ballpark and MLB taked for years of moving the EXPOS to the states and it cost MLB a lot of money to move the team to washation DC and changing the name and making the uniforms and finding a owner

I'm a devils fan but i like the canadiens cuz i take french.. but they're a decent team for hockey.. i want to go to one of their games just to experience a hockey game in french
7000 or less at expos home games... sad, considering the jays lowest in the 2000s was 21000 or 20000, and has been steadily rising to 29000 this year, last home game for this season brought 44000 fans to see roy get his 20th win while expos last home game ever only drew 31000 if fans want expos back, which is remote idea at best, they'd have to avg more than 18000 every home game
This is getting so bullshit MLB only has 1 canadian team NHL only 8 NFL NONE! Nba has 1 The Canadians Created Hockey and Basketball and Americans like Gary Betman are taking Canada away from sports
i dont know about anyone else, but i think montreal should try and move away from the MLB for a while and attempt to get a minor league tewam. ive been to some ottawa lynx games and they are amazing. the atmosphere is really good at a minor league game.
true, I heard lot of Montrealers didn't wanted MLB to come back anyway due to waht happened. I think they should try to get a Can-Am team instead. It's quite odd to see Quebec city have a baseball team and not Montreal, even if it's not major league
Eventually, baseball will return to Montreal. Washington didn't have a team for a while, so it just made sense to move it there. I'll give it about 15 years or so, but I think the city will get a team back.
@BlackJays the washington nationals actually have existed before in the MLB. i'm not sure what ever happened to them though. Hopefully the expos will return. If it wasn't for the expos there would be no blue jays.
@BlackJays After the Winnipeg Jets left for Phoenix, it was a 15 wait for the NHL to return to Winnipeg. It took a big effort, including a new arena. If Montreal makes an effort, they could be where the next team to move lands. The Nationals played at RFK stadium for 3 years while planning/building their new stadium. A baseball team could use Olympic Stadium in a similar manner. There's potential.
Idk but I think people in Montreal are more hockey fans. Just look by yourself. MTL Canadiens sucked since the Nordiques departed for Colorado until 2007-2008 season and since the strike the attendance is maxed out. The opposite happened with MTL expos
