Mozart, being from Salzburg, would have spoken German in an Austrian dialect. From an early age, he was educated in many other languages so as to enlarge his capacity as a virtuoso. He probably would have been able to communicate in all of the major languages in Europe including English. When his friend and mentor Joseph Haydn left his post at Esterhazy to tour in Europe, Mozart advised him to acquire the skill for languages for which the elder Haydn was not as gifted as his younger colleague.
It's true. When young Mozart was touring in London with his father and sister, Nannerl, herself a gifted harpsichordist, there are accounts that he was proficient in English, albeit with his thick Austrian accent. When he was presented to any royal court, his father was doubly industrious in his son's ability to make an outstanding impression. This was a way for his son to secure a position at one of these courts as a composer, his only means of employment at that time. Thanks for writing!
The aria (song) sung by the young lady taking voice lessons with Salieri is CARO MIO BEN. I've seen two versions. One is supposedly written by Salieri himself. The other by Marcello Giordani. The Giordani version is being sung in this scene and it's in the Amadeus Original Soundtrack.
I don't like the directors cut nearly as much as the original version. Salieri comes off too much like a sleaze bag in this version. Still, the way they filmed the climax of this scene from 5:45 to a little past 6:00, with the conflict raging inside of Salieri over whether he loves or hates the music, coupled with the climax of the mass in C, works out to be a true piece of cinematic bliss.
"service deserves service in return"? wtf!! that fucker!! hes using her love for her husband and twisting it for his own pleasures!! somebody shoot him plz!!
I love that part at 0:12. Salieri is so "sugar deprived" hahaha. Poor woman. She probably got the hint "I'm boring". Constanze was also a bit of a glutton...haha 4:12 is so funny.
But to tell the truth, if Constanze kept a tight leash on her man and his money, Mozart would've probably had a longer and better life.
Salieri sure did like sugar in this story. He denied himself everything else 'pleasurable' or what he thought of as empirically 'sinful', but man did he put away the sweets.
The original version of the film shown in theaters in the US did not have any nudity. It was included in the DVD released years later as a deleted scene.
WTH!!!!!!! I'm so mad!! we watched it at school and you know the part at the end where e says come tonight......yadda yadda? well, my teacher got the edited version!!! ugh! i hate edited versions - if i watch a movie, i wanna see the whole thing
When the DVD came out, The Directors Cut, that was the first time the public had a chance to see the "unedited" version.
When I was in school, I saw the version that made it onto the big screen, the one you saw. No one outside of those who made the movie knew that the film was a bit longer. But on DVD you can put whatever version you want.
maybe when im older (im 15) and i live alone or something ill watch the unedited version lol cuz it would be REALLY awkward watching it with my parents!
Sleazy???? Was this a sleazy gesture? No, it was a sacrifice, for love of her husband. Did she enjoy it? Did she like this guy? Not at all. She sacrificed dignity and pride and she went all the way - for the good of the higher cause, for the very survival of The One Loved by God. I am dissapointed by your comment, Casstrinity.
You apparently mixed up the pronouns he (male) and she (female). I am not at all judging Mozart's wife (I don't even mention her) as the adjective "sleazy" purely refers to Salieri (male) who uses the wife's (female) desperation to his benefit. I recommend you read comments more carefully before judging others on (your) false interpretations.
Maybe, since the movie in the end is fictional, the fact that Salieri would have been shown like a cruel, perverted blackmailer was considered too much. Of course he doesn't come out like a 'gentleman' anyway, but that would have been too much. I have seen the scene, in the end he can't even make it, he asks the servant to show her out. The scene was strong, and beautiful in a way because you see him plunging in the depths of his hate and inadequacy, but it was too much for poor Salieri.
err...she did not sell herself and he was not sleeping with her...she was fully in love with her wolfgang...I pity the movie-constanze for mozart not caring as much for her as she did for him
yes, essentially, he told her to sell her body in exchange for the job...what an idiot...is that true? maybe they took things a little too far from fact in this movie...

Mozart certainly spoke French and Italian in addition to German but I'm not aware of any evidence he was proficient in English.

When Salieri requests her service, what does Salieri really intend for her to do?
I really don't think he intended to give service the way we nowadays would think because Salieri actually kicks Constanze out when she undresses.
Can anyone please explain?
ulsbolde89 3 years ago
I think some domestic work
fellinian 3 years ago
he wanted to humiliate Mozar thru her.
And yes he meaned to get undressed her(sorry my english). this scene says many things, but it´s tacit.
MrDarcyssmile 3 years ago 3
@ulsbolde89 he means for her to go to bed with him but later I assume he changes his mind.
