  • It Is an Absolute Crime that this Man Mr. Todd Rundgren IS NOT in The Rock&Roll Hall of Fame.

Completely Stoopid & Ridiculous! What A TRUE Talent! One of My favorite Artists. A Big Influence on Me as a Musician! God Bless You! Todd :)

  • Touches a part of my spirit only Toddŝ writing can! Thank-you for your infinite wisdom and being able to share it through your music, the core of my spirit is soooo grateful! God Bless You Todd

  • Had the good fortune to see this tour and the subsequent tour while in Boston.

This song brings back so many memories...touches of sadness and pain. We've all been there---chasing down someone that we'll never catch. And eventually we'll have to come to the reality that it's just not going to happen.

  • Just to let you guys know, you can stream this concert instantly on Netflix. It's the, Live in Japan recording, awesome concert.

  • I saw this show in L.A., drove up from San Diego, and felt like I was slightly out of my body the whole time. There's something about the just-to-one-side-of-reality feeling that Todd manages to evoke. All that acid either gave him a key to the inside or merely showed him that he already was a wizard. Todd speaks, through tone or something--also fearlessness--to something pure.

  • @ rgaleny: " Parallel Lines Never Do Cross Over". IMHO, I interpret this song as meaning, couples, try as hard as they will to come together and make a relationship work. However, if they are opposites, it never will work, because "Parallel Lines Never Do Cross Over". Trust Me, I lived this song!!.

  • God, does he look and sound GREAT here or what?? Whew! Love his suit a la Todd style. Someone asked about the backup singers.....he married the blonde in the middle, Michelle Grey when he was 50. She's a broadway show lover and makes costumes for Todd's musicians.....she also had Todd tattoo wedding ring on his finger! As all of us ToddLovers drool, it's reported she's also a very sweet woman. Have to be to live with a heart like Todd.

  • One of TR's best compositions, and that is saying something!

  • This song is about lovers and friends. But isn't it also about all of us coming and goingi in each others lives in both good and bad ways. Men must ENDURE. In their coming, as in their going hence. So, Say goodbye to Hollywood.

  • I was at this show at the Tower Theatre in Philly. Excellent show!

  • I dare fucking bieber to write something half as meaningful as this...

Shit I hate how music sucks these days, man.

  • @reaktionmusic A-fucking-men!

  • I wonder who designed those dresses for the singers..They are the smoking HOTTEST EVER Perfect for Todd. ;)

  • AHHHH!!! TODD!PERFECTION!

  • "...and when I think of me... I think of we"....Love Todd

  • A great moment in time, Todd or otherwise. I'm consistently impressed with the active and crisp drumming on this tour, maybe because he looks like he's still in high school!

  • why we can't get this show on DVD or Blu-ray is a shame. Give the people what they want!

  • This show was the best! I've ever seen, and I've seen a bunch! And I will always see Jaquelyn when I hear this. Todd can sure turn a phrase and a tune.

  • I have Live In Japan on VHS, It's so great!

  • One of my favorite tunes by Todd. And this was an extra cool deal with Ms Muldaur on vocals (the gorgeous redhead). Thanks to the poster! Todd is, and will always be, an amazing talent that seeks out amazing talent to back him up. Looking forward to Labor Day in Akron next year already!

  • Sadly, two of the musicians in this video are no longer with us. Max Haskett on Trumpet and Vince Welnick on keyboards.

  • nice!

  • I saw this tour at the Vic in Chicago. I think it was 1990. It all blends together. That's what when you see 16 plus Todd gigs over 20 years! Keep rockin' boys. (That includes you Kasim.)

  • Aw Max...nice nice guy...me and my ex husband were just talking about what a nice guy he was just the other day. Todd always surrounds himself with some really talented and good peeps. Maybe that's because of who he is huh?

  • Words can't describe how much i love Todd's song writing & performing .When his genus comes out and he's really on. Singing in key & playing tight . .

  • Lets face facts, apart from BOB, american's have always had trouble when it comes to.........SPEAKING ENGLISH

  • what a twat - this dickhead is talkin bollocks if he thinks he's in Dylan, Lennon, Pink Floyd's league- Useless wanker!!

This is actually Funny, it's so shit

  • @PHILRAWS- Who the fuck are you .What great song did you ever write ,produce or record for anyone . Your a total jerk off ,Snob, Prick , Todd Rundgren is a musical Genius Your the one who's funny. A dumb ass clown .!

  • @PHILRAWS , you're wrong , that's my opinion .

  • Todd has always had such great lyrics to his songs , they take you on a trip that has always enlightened me. Ive been a fan since "69"

  • Perfect.

  • This is special to me -

I learned all the bass lines from this tour from a live WXRT Chicago broadcast, then went to Macworld in San Francisco where our company was doing biz with Todd -

I got to a party at Todd's loft where he played this right in front of me-

    unforgettable!

  • the amazing TODD....Once he gets in your heart..there he stays..........incredible

  • netlog

  • I have loved Todd since hearing "Time Heals". I have this concert on VHS and love, love, love it! Why don't artsts/bands write real songs anymore? Todd is one of the best artists ever.

  • Used to have this on VHS and I wore the poor thing out. What a fine concert. Wish I was in that audience in Japan. One of Vince Welnick,s last filmed performances. R.I.P. Vince. From a Todd and Tubes fan.

  • Used to have this on VHS and I wore the poor thing out. What a fine concert. Wish I was in that audience in Japan. One of Vince Welnick,s last filmed performacnces. R.I.P. Vince. From a Todd and Tubes fan.

  • todd is the quintessential music man-writer, producer, musician, singer...he does it all and soooo wellll!! his talent is amazing!! he always seems so comfortable in his own shoes!! i am a todd-ite from my head to my toes!!! rock on ...

  • Great version, more upbeat than the other ones available on YouTube. Too bad he didn't sing this one with Daryl Hall on Live From Daryl's House.

  • Anyone know where this was recorded? Dallas maybe??

  • I guess it's Japan, like the other concerts from this concert.

  • @rogue0ikon Japan, You putz.

  • うあ、ニアリー・ヒューマンのキャッチーな名曲。俺は一生応援します。

  • Todd's a sage. His lyrics demonstrate a universal and timeless wisdom not many artists ever come close to in their subject matter. TODD ROCKS!!!!!

  • I looooooooooooooooooooove Todd

  • Awesooooome! I must have been six when I watched this tour on vhs with my dad and brother, and I can still remember the feelings associated. Even at six years old Todd was able to communicate profound understandings to me through his art. I'm 22 now. Have collected almost every Todd/ Utopia album. My kids will have been born to synthesize as well.

  • the best version was todd live on david sanborn's show

    it's on you tube

check it out - it's unbearably delicious

todd rundgren wrote the best songs of the 20th century, and continues to turn out

    great music (buy LIARS)

  • I agree- that "uber-ballad" version is just heart-breaking.

  • Yeah I saw it and I like it even better than this version (or rather the album version). It is really heartbreaking, so freakin' dramatic. Makes me think of all the chicks who burned me without a trace, especially one who I really liked.

  • I saw this tour three times in NYC. I cried each time. It's beyond beyond. Todd's not god, this music is god

  • RIP Vince Welnick. Lovely track

  • which one is Vince? and btw if you know, who is the drummer and guitarist?

  • Does anyone know who yhe backround singers are?

  • Jenny Muldaur, Michelle Rundgren, Shandi Sinnamon.

  • someday, I hope to see this incredible man perform.

His singing is amazing.... love TR......

  • Sad....

  • I was lucky, I saw Todd for the first time on this tour (at the Warfield in S.F.). It was also one of my first concerts, and the first one I chose to go to myself (as opposed to tagging along with my sister or mom). Great tour with a full band, it was fantastic and life-changing. Loved the NH album to pieces and still do.

  • Song is so true :-)

  • Hey you record company digital rights zealots: please don't take this one down, like you are doing with others. I discovered this song on youtube and I'M BUYING THE CD....THE REAL CD BECAUSE I DISCOVERED IT HERE ON YOUTUBE! You guys just don't get it.

  • I fully agree with you, very well said. I too have restarted buying music due to stuff I find on Youtube

  • Todd has been a musical hero of mine for decades....love this song most of all! Thaks for the video.

  • One of my favorites....took my son to Nearly Human Tour when he was 7. It was his first concert ever. Wish somebody had done that for me.......oh well.

Getting ready to go to two back to back shows of Todd in April. NYC and Vineland, NJ...wooohoooo!!!!!

  • Never have seen him, have so many records from years gone by.....maybe one day...he's been part of my musical life

  • Darryl Hall's Daddy!

  • Beautiful. Lovely playing. Great singing. Superb songs. A special evening.

  • Have always loved this album, this song, saw him many times on this tour and the next one...Always a spritual high

  • This man is actually a genius

  • Totally. He's teh awesome.

  • His singing has only gotten better since then. Check out "Past" on the Liars album.

  • Wait Todd, Like a Train?

    Fuck YOU!

  • Comment removed

  • how this song did not more exposure blows me away...the best!

  • Great to see all these nice comments for Todd....he is essentially a GENIUS.......he walks the same path as Brian Wilson and Jimmy Webb........he just plays a hell of a lot more instruments....

  • exactly right. todd may be one of the most underrated artists of the last generation. i met him once in upstate n.y. in '81, he's got a lot of charisma to go along with his talent. i love this song in particular...the lyrics are right on target. the list of artists in his league is not a long one. mentioning jimmy webb was a breath of fresh air...( instead of the usual names). great video ...i got it on my favorites list.

  • What an incredible song....Damn, I hate to be that Parallel line..and I still am

  • "Time does heal all wounds" With acceptance there is healing. I surrender to the destiny that we fulfill-DEEP!

  • Everybody sings

  • And they all sing well.

    There's that detail.

Rundgren singing at his best ever though.

  • I saw him with Ringo Starr in 1992 and I was rather disappointed that Rundgren only performed two songs. Several years later- I saw him in concert again and it was well worth the money!

  • ...I've seen a million bands but not one has distilled the live experience down to purity as well as Todd Rundgren...

  • Todd made it clear that we are all connected and that we are all going to heaven cause we already been through hell :) long time todd fan 27 shows under my belt

  • A lot of people like to say "Todd is God". The fact is, Todd HEARS God, and he's not afraid to pass it on to the rest of us.

  • i once said why do americans need god when they have jesus, he being the one who listenes to fatherly advice. Hears who.

  • It's kind of weird ain't it? This mega talent, visionary, soulman mostly exists in our world, club, cult, and is so peripheral in our culture. Unknown or disdained. I first saw TR in Philly, 40 years ago. I tire now of convincing people of his brilliance. I did however sing "Beloved Infidel" last night in a bar, drawing everyone in. As much as I'd like to think i was my voice and delivery, i know it was the impact of one more perfect song from the Runt. A treasure!

  • Do Todd's background harmonies arrangements go right to your soul??

  • Especially well in this performance. I've seen Todd many times since the 70's, and when Todd is on, he's ON.

    10 stars!

  • ...when I think of me, I think of we...

  • Todd is great! what a well written song. pure creativity, talent, and brains comparing a math axiom to a frustrating relationship. very nice....

thanks for posting this one for sure!

  • Lovely song, good album. Is toffee-nosed Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen- the interior designer trying to look like Todd haha!. You British fans may know what iam talking about

  • i love todd in all of his incarnations including

    "vegas" todd

  • i notice that one of the three girls want to show her left breast

  • This is why Todd is touched by God.....

  • How man brilliant songs can one man write?

  • Face the facts, some things never come together - Parallel Lines never do cross over! Sublime.

  • One of the best lyrics..ever!

  • There goes Todd!

  • This guy is like DiVincci reborn..such brilliance, eloquence, dignity...a true Artist

  • Yes, what a great tour this one was. For me, I saw Todd on Letterman doing "Want Of A Nail", and I was hooked on his command of performance. I saw this tour at The Ritz in NYC. Big band on a small stage, standing room only and even a Dana Carvey cameo (or was that a year later on the 2nd Wind tour? hmm). What ensemble work! Amazing.

  • Yes That was GGRRREATT You should have seen UTOPIA

  • I had the great good fortune to see this show twice! I've been to hundreds of concerts over the years, and the "Nearly Human" show is certainly among the Top 5! This song still brings a tear.

  • Smilingdog50

Yeah, I agree with all you said.

I saw this (Nearly Human) at the Agora Ballroom in Cleveland, a great setting, utilized for music, so the acoustics were fantastic, and the biggest joy of all, was the continuous energy, from all of the people performing. Never forget it!!

  • Love Todd, he is the best!

  • Nearly Human was one of the great, classic albums of the late '80s--a certifiable masterpiece, evry song kicked. I saw the tour in STL summer of '89--that's the concert where Todd kicked guitarist Lyle Workman in the ass for trying to upstage him--Todd was in command. He's got to be in the HOF.

  • Man! People don't know what they're missing. This should have been a big hit for Todd.

  • LadyFagen, I'm sure I can speak for all us veteran s of the Todd Squad, it's heartwarming to know you feel him. Be prepared. Many people don't get him at all. We all wonder, how can it be that they don't hear the poetry, soul, grace, and beauty in his music. It's OK. Most people complain when their special artist becomes a superstar. We're past that. You still have many great songs to discover. Good for you.

  • I just turned 20 and speaking for the younger generation, I must say there are quite a few of us who enjoy Todd's great music too. I personally think this song sums up all the love I had for this one guy I've known since preschool. I was in love with him and we just never got together and these lyrics just hit so close to my heart. I love Todd Rundgren and own several of his CDs as we call them today lol. He is truly great as an artist! Thanks for posting this!

  • Yes, c.d.'s!! what a concept! Thanks for the post...glad there are some younger fans who aren't listening to green day!!

  • The finest gig I've EVER seen! I envy you guys who say you saw the Nearly Human tour LIVE back then. Todd assembled a band who not only play brilliantly but also flawlessly recreate those trademark background vocals that Todd in the studio multitracked himself. Jim Steinman once said - "Watching Todd Rundgren create background vocals has got to be one of the most thrilling experiences you can ever have in music".

  • this song is so true, todd has been singing my life for a long time!!! todd is such a wonderful singer/songwriter. wish kids today would get a chance to hear him. todd forever!!!!

  • Todd is so amazing, he is a genius for sure, I love him.

By far my favorite and for sure the most underrated artist there is, what a shame, so many people are missing

    out...Todd is Godd!

  • Saw him in NY on this tour. I always love this song,(and "Waiting Game"), and I think the Nearly Human and 2nd Wind material and concerts represent a real high water mark for Todd. Great ensemble and mix of polish and live-in-the-studio creation.

  • One of my fav's!

  • his voice was at its peak back then

and his writing skills will never be equaled

  • Nobody sings like he does.

I never really paid attention to singers (nothing against them),let alone rock stars, period....until I saw/heard him. I just love his lyrics.

  • It's great how loyal Todd's fans are - his music means so much to me - hey Todd, how about a "Healing" Tour ? The world desperately needs it !!!!!

  • goood

  • Quite simply, the single most underrated artist, in terms of influence, in pop music history.

Prince, without a doubt, has been heavily influenced by Todd.

Along with Stevie Wonder and McCartney, Todd ranks among the most prolific, influential and talented musicians in pop music history.

  • TODD IS GOD!

  • Fantastic... haven't heard Todd for a while now.... love this song and Bag Lady too..... he's so talented (from one hippy to another.lol) x

  • aging has rewards, you used to try to convince people how great todd is and suffered. to some he's strident, eccentric, melodramatic, and strange. Thankfully, he's all that and more. I'm happy and secure being in the fan club. I've written some good songs, but wow! this is genius. Being odd, over-sensitive, and loving are good qualities. Rave on Todd!

  • Never understood critics ignoring 2d Wind and Nearly Human. They may not be perfect, but the good stuff is simply amazing Todd, writing on mature themes and with fabulous metaphorical power. This song is as haunting as it gets, as are things like "Fidelity," "Change Myself," and others from that period.

  • Love it, I've been a Todd fan for 35 years, Todd is Godd!

  • Todd and I were "Parallel Lines" in a past life - still love you !

  • Parallel Lines is also one of my favorite songs too! Love the video and the worlds most dangerous backup singers! LOL TODD IS GOD!

  • What impresses me most about these Nearly Human tour videos is just how well put together the band is. The arrangements are ambitious, the musicianship flawless. There is plenty to look at but it's all about actually making the music, instead of just some backup dancers and/or pyrotechnics.

Is ANYONE doing performances like this these days?

    Thanks Todd!

  • I fear NO-ONE is doing performances like this these days: What impresses me is how wonderful those vocal backups are. The combination of the voices of the girls and of the several bandmembers who sing sounds uncannily like those multitrack layerings of his own voice that Todd used to record. Finding such a musically excellent band who could also deliver that level of vocal precision can't have been easy but was well worth the effort! Stunning stuff.

  • thanks! these todd videos have renewed my love of his music!

  • unheralded american pop-meister

  • good song.

  • my first concert in philly, todd with "woody's truck stop" opened for Jimi. he smoked on the guitar. i tired a long tme ago of trying to convince people how great he is. so many songs! a true poet. 've written some good songs, but damn! i didn't think of this metaphor. heartbreaking. cherish this american treasure, a true original force.

  • Amazing song... Never heard it until recently.Been a massive Todd fan for last 10 years.Even more amazing that he's almost unheard of this side of the pond..

  • Huge Todd fan here. "Parallel Lines" still gives me chills when I hear it - probably my all time fave Todd song. The "Nearly Human" CD is a great one and this tour was super!!

BTW, the blond chick singing backup here is Todd's wife, the lovely Michele.

  • Solo Todd is the best I ever saw of him. The one show i saw maybe 7 years ago pulled all the stops. Todd w/ acoustic, w/ piano, and virtual band via laptop w/ him rocking out with electric guitar. Granted, he's on some weird trip most of the time. But... those songs!!!

  • Saw this tour in Grand Rapids. It was very, very good. Nice to see this.

  • can anyone out there see a "parallel line" between the runt and the other little runt, namely.... Prince?!if you think about it , both self producers ,players of anything, arrangers, independent, and very parallel in fashion sense, melodic sense, rhythmic sense...hmmm, just a thought. these posts are great ...more please.

  • What I wouldn't give to have been there. Thanks for the heads up on the DVD, Freedive100.

  • I saw him live in Indianapolis, IN (The Vogue) and saw him do this song among many. His concert was great! This video does him an injustice! Live, when you are there, he is wonderful! If you ever have the chance to see a Todd Rundgren concert live, do so!

  • I've seen Todd live dozens of times, and I have to say - see Todd live...if he is playing with other musicians. Solo, these days, he can get really lazy and sloppy. When I saw him with Joe Jackson and Ethel in St. Louis he was downright embarrassing. This tour, on the other hand, was brilliant. When he's playing with other people who will razz him if he screws up, he's great. As I'm sure his grade school teachers said "Todd is a very bright young man when he applies himself".

  • A Japan concert from this Nearly Human tour is available on DVD at Amazon.

  • Todd and Bebe Buell raised Liv Tyler up in Portland, Maine, while Stevie boy was in the turmoil of drug addiction. Steve didn't know he had a daughter till Liv was 10 or 11 years old. Wild...

  • Incredible song!!! I pray Todd never gets old...like me.

  • This rocks!! Nearly Human is my favorite Todd album of all time and Parallet Lines is my very favorite tune. I always wished I had see this tour. Thanks for sharing!!

  • what else can you say... Todd's voice and music mean so much to me and my life! Thanks God for YouTube, a wonderful addition to the internet.
