For me it wasn't The Hunger Games -> Jeniffer -> Winter's Bone, but the other way.I watched this movie before I read THG, and I remember just being stunned about how amazing Jeniffer was, then I heard she was cast for the movie and I read the books and she was Katniss all the time in my head. She is going to be perfect Katniss. I don't know about the romantic parts of the story because in her films she hasn't had much of that, but she is a wonderful actress and I'm sure she'll be great.

watching the movie now. I keep expecting someone to call her Katniss, 'cause her character's a lot like Katniss'. the out-of-it mother, taking care of her little brother and sister (sister in THG), being really poor, living out in the country. I was skeptical about Jennifer at first since she seemed kinda girly when I first saw her in the video revealing the first teaser for THG, but this movie's great so far- and she's the reason for it.

(spoiler possibly) she gets raped in the poker house. this movie is how her dad's a bad guy and crack addict & was supposed to go to court, but didn't show, so their house was gonna get taken. she goes to try to find him so they wouldn't be turned out. she goes to other "family" for help, but they don't wanna get involved, they want her to stop lookin around, so they beat her up. she eventually finds her dad-more or less-shows the sheriff, and they stay at the house. the end.

I've only seen this once, and it's been about a year. It was one of the worst movie theater viewings I've ever had because it was on a cruise ship and everyone else was talking and joking through the whole thing and the theater wasn't soundproofed very well and there was music from some jazz show drifting in throughout so that I couldn't hear the dialogue at times.

And yet this movie and these performances still haunt me.

Those women are tough, man. Great acting throughout, large and small parts. A movie in which poor people don't pity themselves for being poor, and aren't idealized, either. But a pretty bleak commentary on a jobless region where the economic choices are basically go into the army or cook meth. One particularly harrowing scene that had me just clutching my head. Not for the faint of heart.

A wonderful depiction of how different things are in rural backwoods america, a young girl struggling to defend her family from being thrown out of their home after her father is reported missing after skipping bail. True to the core, it grips you with the reality of true suspense. This film gave me chills to recount what it was like living in this poverty myself and growing up knowing the things this girl went through, A+ film very worth the watch!

some of the main people in this are non-actors from the area... so what's with all the accent drama? I am from here as well. The accent gets more "country" the more country you go. The writer also lived in Missouri. There are awesome people here, but the back country is just how this film depicts it. Great film.
