I can't believe the full version of this song is nowhere to be found. It sounds like an amazing cover of Ceremony based on the first minute... too bad
it really really isnt radiohead. i doesnt even sound like them(!?). The cover is by a band called Fall On Your Sword but I still can't find a full version.
At first I was disgusted that New Order sold out. But then I thought, at least it was vodka, and a good vodka, and not a shampoo ad. And if the Absolut people are wise enough to choose a classic (and not TOP40) song specifically apealing to the 40yr old(and introducing a new generation) diehards who have a special place in their hearts for this song....then so be it. And I specifically bought (and cracked) a bottle to support it. If they'd used Temptation, I'd have bought a case!!!
Ok... im of the understanding that a band called Fall On Your Sword recorded this version of Ceremony for this Absolut Vodka commercial but what i don't get is why i cant find it anywhere...somebody please help... call it an emergency... mail me, thanx x x Drink sensibly. Peace Love and Joy Division...
@sqgl I strand corrected. You are right: "This new version, by the Brooklyn band Fall On Your Sword, hews very closely to the one New Order did soon after Curtis' death. Too closely for comfort, I guess."
@ruinedbyidiots This version is a cover from I don't remember who, but I know for certain that it's neither from Joy DIvision nor New Order. Trust, me, I'm a huge fan of both bands, I pretty much have all their versions.
Nice commercial, though the song is a bit disrespectful to Ian Curtis. Atleast having listened to the original atleast a million times, I am sure this is a cover version.
Is this a cover song because it doesn't sound like the original from either New Order or Joy Division to me? It's the extra drumming bits that sounds very different. Btw, I just saw this commercial and had to come on here to ask. It's my favorite song from the band.
A sad state of affairs. I guess you'll think me naive, but I am so much in love with New Order and Joy Division; I guess I think those bands are above this. I know many artists have contributed to the absolut thing. It's still ugly.

Ceremony. Orginally composed by Joy Division, although they only recorded the song twice (both live, poor quality) before the bands frontman Ian Curtis commited suicide. Recorded in the studio by New Order, released in 1980 (or 81) as thier first single. The ad is a cover by Fall on Your Sword.
Fair cover, not as powerful as New Order's original of course. If you like this though, try and find Galaxie 500's amazing covers. The Blue Thunder EP has the definitive studio version and there's a Galaxie 500 DVD with a fantastic live version from a gig at Club Lingerie. Both are sometimes up on You Tube. Radiohead hmmm....
haven't heard new order that much, but i would definetly say that joy division is mostly involved in this case.., doesn't matter tough it is still the same band much or less.
when this commercial came on i wasn't even paying attention to the tv until i heard new order in the background. i love that song and i found it strange that it was paying because i don't think its a very well known song
Wow, what a great idea! Too bad that Stefan Sagmeister already thought of it. What's wrong with ad agencies these days? Can't they come up with anything original? It's time to boycott the companies that choose ad agencies that are plagiarists. Absolut and American Express to begin with. bye bye!
AMEN. and it's a fucking TERRIBLE cover from the minute that they let us hear..why the fucking hell do they place songs that mean so much to us and use them for marketing!!??? totally agree with you. makes me sad.
I like the absurd contradictio of this ad. The only 'something' most people do after imbibing Absolute is pivot about on one leg, spraying uring and shouting obsenities. It's Abstaining which promotes one actually doing something.
Wow, a lot of anger about this song being used. I actually think it's great, it exposes Joy Division/New Order to a generation who might not know them, plus it's not even them, it's the Fall on Your Sword cover, and they did a pretty good version as well.
Hey, put on MTV, there's nothing good on, put on the radio, there's nothing good on, we should be thankful a good song is being recognized somewhere.

Stefan Sagmeister inspired, and well crafted. I think you guys need to chill and just appreciate. Out of context each piece is really quite wonderful.
