My favorite black shows of the past: The Steve Harvey Show, The Parkers, Martin, The Wayans Brothers, Moesha, Sister Sister, Living Single, All of Us, One on One.
you forgot so many!!!! girlfriends, one on one, sister sister, half and half, moisha, i cant think right now but im sure theres more. loved them allll
@aeromaximon So right. I remember when people was like u know u black if u watch UPN. After that merge, everything went downhill. Btw back in the day WB had all the white shows that I never watched like Supernatural, Charlie's Angels, One Tree Hill
These black sitcoms DID NOT reflect the real black life. 99 per cent showed black people trying to show how good black people can be... nice houses, always showing of their wealth in an embarrassing way! And don´t forget the mixed race mum, love interest or female character, always the same. I enjoyed some of them back then, but now I realize how self hating these shows were.
@Thethebedrock how was the cosby jamie foxx the parkers self hating just becuse they werent poor. black people can grow up in nice house and come from wealth
I remember a black people sitcom in which a total idiot was the protagonist. I'm sure that this sitcom had an episode in which this guy was disappointed about his own ability of ventriquolism (he had a puppet that resembled him), and when he - when he went asleep - wished to become a better one, lightning struck the puppet and turned it alive. And evil. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
@dette3000 Not to mention Sister Sister, Malcolm and Eddie, the Steve Harvey Show, Parenthood, A Different World, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, That's So Raven, Kenan and Kel
funny thing is,none of these shows related to real urban black life at all so quit crying, since GOOD TIMES ITS BEEN ALL About the bling bling 100 dolla bill yall and stupid.
I live in The Netherlands, where it's even harder to find black sitcoms. I can only watch them online that is when I'm not being restricted to see them because I don't live in the U.S. :( I say bring back black sitcoms!!!
I love this video. I'm glad discussed this topic because we don't have any GOOD black sitcoms anymore...unless you watch the older ones from the early 2000s on back. Check out my video called "Reminiscing on the 1990s: The Shows and Cartoons." I feature a lot of great shows.
yes reality tv has taken over pepole want to see the real thing and people are not wachting any black sitcoms like all about the anderson and the tracy morgan show so the network ends up canceling them
This is sad but true. Many of the black sitcoms have faded after 2000 and continue so now and I think its because of those crappy reality shows.
The best sitcoms that I like were from the 70's, 80's and 90's such as Good Times, The Jeffersons, A Different World, Family Matters and Smart Guy. Sitcoms now aren't as good as back then..... but then again there aren't many sitcoms nowadays on TV.
@MandieDiary Reality TV is overrated. Aren't shows like Survivor, Big Brother, American Idol, America's Next Top Model, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and The X Factor enough?
I was just about to make a video about this sadly The Game and Everybody Hates Chris were both cancelled. Sadly the only black t.v. shows left are House of Payne and The Boondocks (an animated series) unless Meet the Browns comes back. It is so sad.
i loved everybody hates chris. i love the boondocks too, cant wait for season 3. house payne isnt really my cup of tea. not saying its a terribly bad show or anything.
there is talk going around about house of payne being cancelled because the cast are now doing other projects that would prevent them from doing another season. i hope the rumor is false because i love house of payne
The bottom line is mainstream society is still somewhat intimidated by seeing intelligent and respecful black people on television, instead they would much rather see us cooning it up on low-brow reality television shows. It is our responsibility as viewers to support quality shows that showcase the black person's experience.
the cosby show,a different world,fresh prince,family matters,in living color,living single,martin,hanging with mr cooper,the parenthood,south central,malcom and eddie,in the house,sister sister,smart guy,my brother and me,cousin skeeter kenean and kel,moesha,parkers,roc,thea,amen,one on one,all of us,half and half,that so raven etc theres just too many lol
wow! its sad that we barely have any now:(
theres just the game, everybody hates chris, house of payne, and bet reality shows.
you left loads out like girlfriends, sister sister, moesha, hanging with mr cooper, one on one, living single, whats happening now, between brothers, kenan and kel, cousin skeeter, in the house, thea, all that, cuts, eve, half and half, meet the browns, the proud family, romeo, thats so raven, under one roof and for your love plus there are loads more but i just cant think of anymore but there are loads more then just what you showed
What about Roc?, living single?, what's happening/now, goodtimes, brothers from outterspace j/k, malcolm and eddie, the show with ll cool j or south central?
There's one missing, it was about some black girldfrineds one was the crazy one with her ahir always braided, another one who was the "fashion one" who used to like expensive stuff and then other two that were sisters and I think they all used to be roommates it was kinda like friends but black.
don't know if you remember, but there was another black sitcom, it was short-lived though. it ran during the 1994-1995 season & was about 6 kids who were beingg taken care of by their oldest 7th brother after their parents died..you remember?

It's because black sitcoms today aren't funny. Lame, tired jokes that everybody has already heard.

I actually think they started getting stupid in the mid 90's. From 96' and present.
Only a few shows were still good. And that's "My wife and kids", "Bernie Mac Show",
