it shows that elephants possess some sort of reasoning . instead of constantly trying to push him out through the same part , they pushed him through the longer part of the pond to the lower bank , this takes some sort of reasoning ...
This really is a beautiful thing to see but wonder why the person videoing cut out the two most eventful parts...when the baby elephant fell in and when the baby elephant was pulled out. Sorry but that's kinda stupid.
@1big11little1 I agree it would have been great to capture the baby elephant falling in. But then filming nature is a once only event - I have just finished filming the herds arrival at the waterhole and did not anticipate that one in 300 elephants would fall in. I had just finished filming when 3 seconds later the baby fell in. Then having just completed a weekend of filming in the reserve, our memory discs were all full, we ran out of space and missed the exit scene.
All I kept thinking about was the nearly 2 dozen Chinese that walked by a dying baby in the street and just let her get run over multiple times.
That, ans rotten f'ing poachers, who don't care if they slaughter these magnificent social creatures to extinction for f'ing stupid ivory statutes. Humans are the planet's plague, sadly.
What makes them even more humanlike is that at 1:12, amid all the communal effort, there's still one asshole just getting a drink. "You guys got that? Cool."
The elephant at minute marker 1:12 is a very young juvenile so he is expected to know his place in the pack and let the adults take care of the situation.
That baby elephant is so cute, and naughty. After his aunt and mum saved him, he was exhausted and lying down and dont wanna walk but the elepahnts was pushing me to walk to avoid him getting in again.
Btw, I was touched when i see those elephants get into the pond to save him.
we see elephants going out of their way to help a baby elephant to escape danger. there is more love in animals than in us humans that were created from the image of god.
who says animals don't have emotions, or a sense of right and wrong, or compassion, because this is all I see here, otherwise they would have just let that poor baby elephant just drown, given up on him, he would have just been a lost cause, logically. But they do feel, they knew they had to save that poor baby elephant, no matter whose baby it was.
Cuz were humans, we think smarter and faster, the fact that elephants are saving one of their babys from drowning goes to show you how smart they really are, plus they don't have hands.
@KronusIsPro But could you save a 400lb drowning baby while being a quadruped, with no opposable digits, and a less intricately wired brain in less than 10 seconds?
Niesamowite!
@josefsabl You are an idiot. Muscle fatigue would have eventually kicked in and the baby would have died if the adults didn't help. That is how drowning usually occurs.
@RapidEyesCream At that age, they aren't very well adept at controlling their trunks. It was probably panicking, too, and using up its energy trying to get out. Eventually it would have tired, and would not have the strength to lift its trunk anymore.
Reminds me of the elephants seen on David Attenborough's programme. The baby got stuck in some mud, the mother was trying to get her out, but she was only making things worse, then the grandmother saw this and shoved her out of the way to help the baby herself. They are quite intelligent.
@robcockerham he's panicking and will probably exhaust himself. Snorkels do no good when you can no longer move your tired legs and you're sinking in the water.
