Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays: Which is used more often?

To me, those whose say Merry Christmas have two options; they can either accept the fact that their are other religions who have their own holi(y)days and wish them a general good season by saying Happy Holidays, or be prepared to hear Merry Yule/Saturnalia/Hannukah/Kwanz­za(etc.) in return. It's simply disrespectful to exclude others by saying Merry Christmas.

Last week I was in a grocery store owned by a Sikh Indian and he wished me a Merry Christmas. A few days ago I got a haircut at a barber shop run by a Muslim immigrant from Iraq. He too wished my a Merry Christmas. Makes me wonder where this political correctness is coming from because it doesn't seem that it's always non-Christians initiating it.

The way I do it is very simple. If I don't know you or don't know you well enough to know what holiday they celebrate. If I know what they celebrate I wish them that. Its very simple. I celebrate Christmas but, I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas to me. When you say happy holidays by the way, your arn't changing the name of a christmas tree. That is just silly!

Ok, first of all, why should we be forced to say Happy Holidays? All you see are Christmas trees, lights, decorations, and Santa Claus! All these are Christmas traditions. So why should they be changed. You don't see stores selling Haunukah or Kwanzaa items. Just Christmas stuff! So why should we change? I think saying Merry Christmas is not (despite what the PC freaks say) forcing Christianity on you but just being polite and wishing you good feelings and health and good spirits for the season!

Christmas as we know it today is a real mess of a holiday because it's a fusion between Pagan traditions, Christian traditions, literature, and commercialism. Until Christians celebrate the holiday as it's technically supposed to be celebrated (as a pure celebration of the birth of Christ) I really feel that they have no right to complain about the use of the phrase "Happy Holidays."

Great video. It's interesting that Easter doesn't have the same issue. Even hardcore pagans typically go along & say Happy Easter... but it does roll off the tongue better than "Happy Spring Equinox".

It says Christmas day on my calendar, so I'm going to keep on saying Merry Christmas, and whoever doesn't like it, well they can go fuck themselves. Political correctness has gone way too far in America.

If someone wants me to wish them a happy Kwanzaa, then they should let me know, and I'll do it, but don't get offended because you're too close-minded to realize that people have been wishing each other Merry Christmases forever now.

my grandmama was so affronted that a jc penney's saleswoman told her "happy holidays" she refuses to shop there anymore.

Huh???? Since when is it pc to wish someone happy kwanzaa. Kwanzaa is just a made up holiday celebrated by fewer than 2% of the population. Christmas is celebrated by virtually all Americans (over 97%.)
