the US has only been half trying for a few years. In America, soccer is well behind baseball, football and basketball in popularity. It may also be behind hockey. Yet, the US is still the number 14 team in the world. They were in the World Cup quarter-finals in 2002.
soccer/football is a great sport, my second second favorite team sport. But basketball dominates in American cities because there is plenty of pavement but not always enough open space to play soccer. The rest of the world is getting pretty into basketball, I'm not sure why the Brits can't hang.

galaxy can rebuild around beckham. the thing you need now is a better manager, someone who will create the best formations. tbh it will be better to play 442 most of the time. as we do (manchester united) beckham played in a 442 for many years. if you get a decen left winger and a decent striker youl win fine. just keep the defencive line tight, keep the ofside trap on, pay more attention to man marking and who is good marking who! :-) once you got all that bring a bit of rotation in.
