  • Helpful tips.

  • Some great advice for different, not just in a commercial sense.

  • All these people send clear messages about keeping it simple and doing what you know you are good at - very cool

  • I have said it before...K.I.S.S! Keep it simple stupid.

  • love the tips

  • if only more people took this advice!

  • Agree with comments about good service - it is often the most time consuming part of a business to maintain

  • Great question to ask, clearly presented

  • It seems then that there are many ways to achjieve differentiation. But do it we had better.

  • Definitely spend more time doing the things that you are good at (your strengths)!!!

  • Isn't the Chinese economy largely built on copying other people's ideas? They seem to be doing alright? :D

  • sound advice. everyone should try to set their product/service apart from competitors as it is what gives you an edge. i guess continued innovation until finding your place and then establishing that identity is important.

  • very thought provoking

  • Good advice from John Madejski when products are the same - service can be the differentiator

  • John Madejski advice is especially salient, compete with the big boys by offering service

  • Interesting range of perspectives. You can get go a long way copying a successful product or model, but a point of difference is really important.

  • My thoughts exactly

  • Let's all stick to our knitting...i''m personally quite useless at that.

  • More sound advise from these celeb entrepreneurs. This series of videos with them has been well worth watching.

  • Added value and going the extra mile is what people appreciate / want and these guys do it so well.

  • I love Pret sandwiches, mmmmmm BLT

  • They point out the main thing, it is really important to have one thing (at least) different about your business. You can't compete against a current business, already well established in the market, by making the exact same good with NO difference at all, be it price, where it is made etc. There always has to be something key about what you do, but I guess being original is the hardest part - it is much easier said than done!

  • Really good advice in my view.

  • Alot of good advice. But that one guy might have missed the boat on the "sounds like U2" thing. That might be true in business, but in music, sounding like another band has made quite a few people alot of money. Though it's probably best to try sounding like a few bands at the same time.

  • Music is business, and bands sell product the same way as anyone else. His point is not that you won't move units by being the same, but rather you won't ever reach the top by copying somebody else. To use another analogy, BK and McD's both make burgers - they have meat, lettuce, chesse etc - but they aren't the same.

  • It might be an easier road to ride the coat tails of the big boys but then it will be hard to differentiate later.

  • True but Megadeth are Burger King to Metallica's Mcdonalds but many still enjoy dining out on their thrash. Still wouldn't mind having a majority shareholding in Burger King or Megadeth.

  • What held Megadeth back was Dave Mustaine's drinking problem. But I see what you're saying - Lars Ulrich gets about as much respect as Ronald McDonald.

  • thats a good point re risk!

  • Being different really is important in overcrowded market segments.

  • I agree with Jacquleine that you have to offer something different than others and I also agree with Bill Gates comment that- your most unhappy customers are your greatest source of learning!

  • Just for the record her name and mine is spelt Jacqueline :)

  • Great advice indeed...do one thing really well rather than lots of things sub standardly.

  • "..just stick to what you do and make sure you do that bloody well.."

    - Sahar Hashemi

    awesome advice!

  • and to add a bit of kiwi to that - KISS keep it simple :)

  • real inspirational business woman

  • I think standing out ahead of your competitor is really about being individual and taking risk.. most of the advice in here is common sense really...

  • That is very true...an example of individual and eccentric is Einstein. Look at how successful and famous he became! lol
