@raylyd only crt and plasma caused burn in image because phosphor is in it .a lcd has liquid crystal pixels and dont light up . lcd need a fluorescence tube to light up the pixel .
CRT's have much more acurate colors and black levels than any LCD tv, anywhere. Only the best of the best of LED or Plasma Tv's can compete with CRT's in that respect (although, not very many crt's were above 1080i)
Why are they actually still produced? Doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Producing LCDs is much easier and cheaper than producing these outdated 1980's technology CRTs (altough the CRT itself was invented much earlier). Not even modern O'scopes use them anymore.
@Topachula actualy they still do, only DSO's or digital storig oscillascops use LCD's, but the resalution on the LCD's isnt as good as on the CTS's. at least thats what i have seen on my scopes.
Ah - Just monochrome CRT. I was wanting to see how put in the RBG phosphors on the inter tube face in such a precise manner, as well as the shadow mask

@ErnieHam Why? It is so easy. There is an electron gun at the back that emits electrons. The electro magnets around the middle of the tube then accelerate the electrons into a thin beam. The magnets also guide the beam so that it scans on the surface of the CRT. The surface is coated with a material that lights up when electrons hit it. This is the light you see.
@ErnieHam a trio of electron guns (red, green, blue) at the back shoot at the phosphor coating on the front in a sweeping motion and various combinations to produce an image or video, accelerated by high voltage from the flyback transformer, which is connected by a clip to the top of the CRT. a coil towards the back keeps the electron beams in alignment so they won't shoot off in random directions. Nerdage \w/
@AsianLuigi you dont, 1 hard to power / controll, 2 can be deadly, 3. no, 4. not the way you think it works.. what you want is the flyback trasnformer..
@gtaer222 Yeah, matter of fact, although you don't see much here in Florida USA, they are still making some. There's a prototype or something that has a REALLY REALLY high contrast ratio, and makes 480P look PERFECT xD
@TheNewFormula sorry yeah thats kinda what i meant...many shades of grey lol but yeah...i wish they showed them making a colour crt...they always do a half ass job like getting ibm to show how processors are made...wtf?!?! they dont even make a usable cpu anymore!

Excellent. We should use more CRT's, adapting every possible appliance & device for their use. How about CRT cell phones? Awesome!

@killallianceftw Nope.

@killallianceftw
Surprisingly no. Hydroflouric is sometimes shipped in glass bottles. Although it is most likely found in plastic containers for safety reasons.

Yes they still make CRT's, mainly for security camera systems which still are mainly analogue outputs which LCD's don't do very well.
