  • The world was watching and proud we taking over. sing it over and over

  • She is being dissed not because her lyrics or the fact shes black. But this is a song established for our country hundreds of years ago, this isnt some fucking jazz black song, and its not a black fucking hip hop shit, its a fucking song about our nations pride, america, not africa, and she was africanizing a fucking north america song; if you have pride in being black ok cool but keep it with your shit, but dont taint our culture and history with your crap. Thankyou dumb bitch

  • @shimorishiak without blacks there wouldn't be a USA fool, it was black slave labor that built Washington dc and north america. as such she has as much right to sing the song thw way she wants too. african americans are as much apart of the american story as any euro american.

  • this sounds like crap, this isnt your gospel music choir lady, sing the song with a little less black.

  • @1776freedomordie "black" and america are intertwined, there would be no america without "black"

  • Beautiful! That's why she's the queen!

  • Absolutely beautiful Aretha Franklin! Ty.

  • Listen and than read the lyrics...She won't sing the song as it was written..

    What a bunch of BULLSHIT

  • @xlrtt She sings the first and last stanzas...common when the entire song is too long.

  • That was an OUTSTANDING rendition of that song ! RERE did it justice as she always does and on such a momentous occasion !

  • Such a disgraceful performance of this song.

  • @saltypork3 I looked up "My country tis of thee sung badly" and this was the first search I got. I think thats a sign.....

  • @Somespatanwarrior This would be "sung" badly if you like your music whitebread. They don't call her the "Queen of Soul" for nothing. This is an essential Aretha performance and that she sang the way she did is the reason she was chosen by the Obamas. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it moves me like no other version I'v heard before. But for the haters...I'm sure Toby Keith has some rendition somewhere.

  • My left ear enjoyed this. Right, not so much.

  • @willhomebrewforfood You are pathetic. It was like minus 70 degrees outside she had a hard time singing but pulled it off. Dumb bastard!

  • What a mess

  • Fuck off yanks, taking our national anthem!!

  • Aretha Franklin is an American institution. Miss Aretha, Queen of Soul, is a national treasure whose music transcends boundaries. Americans claim her, but she belongs to the whole world. Long you may reign over us our mighty Queen Aretha.

  • c'mon, the woman is a legend whose heyday was waning in the 70's. She IS american history. Have some respect, if not for who she is, for who she was and what she represents to black america. I mean damn.

  • that hat was huge

  • Not a dry eye in the house just great . I hope she is around for january 2013 for a repeat performance and obama's second term of office.

  • @arsenaljoy HA! Good luck with that.

  • and in the spirit of fireworks, your WHAT? of mine? what's a "ree"?

  • May God always bless us, guide us and protect us, viva la USA!

  • Happy 4th of July!

  • so sad that he fogeth about us latiinos and let the new laws to give the power to the police to abuse on inocent and easy target imigrants because sadly when some americans think about illegalimigrants first picture they head play is latino .we love this this country we give our kids a better life and they serve back to the country alot of us are in the military and alot of us are americans .decendense of mexicans we love our 2 cultures ,and we love america and the united states of america .god

  • What a moment! And President Obama chose EXACTLY the right person to sing the inaugural song for his presidency - the greatest singer the United States (and probably the world) has ever heard. You can quibble that Aretha isn't in her absolute prime in this performance, but even at her second best, she's still the undisputed Queen of Soul, and this was a majestic moment. And yes, the hat was perfect!

  • I wonder whether this music is actually written down somewhere...I mean real notes and all that? If so, did she hit any of them, or was she just messin' wit us? And I do wish it would end for God's sake. Prosituting notes and missing melodies is not art, and not music. Music is prcision and acurracy...getting it right. Aretha misses on all counts. Not that there is anything wrong with screwing it up...

  • @tummeler "*Boring* music is precision and accuracy.."

    Fixed.

  • I wonder whether this music is actually written down somewhere...I mean real notes and all that? If so, did she hit any of them, or was she just messin' wit us? And I do wish it would end for God's sake.

  • MY CUNT.... --TRY TIS OF THEE!

  • @swimmerbuddy90 ROFLMFAO.

  • Nice hat.

  • even if you don't like Obama, I don't see how you can dislike this video.

  • She's such a diva. Go Aretha! :D :D :D We heart you.

  • I was there. Damn, I'm so proud of this country of ours. So proud.

  • She later went on to say it wasn't her best performance because it was so cold, and I'm thinking, I wish I could sing half as well as that at my best haha. What a talent

  • @Jefftrum, you are very right, and sometimes you have to just ignore ignorant people, that don't know any better, that's the only way that they know how to be. Be blessed :)

  • United Estates, just the best country of the world. I hope I will go soon, from Spain.

  • I love you Aretha! You are the ultimate DIVA! May God grant you your heart's desires!

  • My CUNT...try tis of thee! xD ROFLMAO Aretha WIN!

  • A Mongolian guy arranged the music. His name is Chinbat. You can find his creatures from this YouTube. Also you can hear a part of Mongolian /Asian/ symphony melody /notes/ at 0.53-0.57

  • Comment removed

  • Amazing! It was so cold that Yo Yo Ma played to a recording. His instrument wouldn't produce music correctly in that cold. Not the Queen of Soul! She did it live at 66 years old at the time. This woman is a national treasure!

  • @markahanes that still doesnt mean shes the best at everything she sings, shes very talented in soul but not that talented at My Country Tis of Thee...i was just stating there were plenty of other more talented people they couldve gotten to sing that and but they prob didnt think it important enough to go get them haha

  • PS. listen to the beginning.. how has nobody noticed that she starts off by singing "My cunt... try tis of thee"

    ... whaaaa!?!!?!

  • Not the best singer....that little girl on Americas Got Talent can sing much better, but it wouldnt have been worth it to get her to sing at Obama's Inauguration

  • @Mandiefire you haven't listened to a sing song this women has sung then, go look up soul and you'll find her a forerunner in the genre.

  • man that hat!

  • She was NOT lip synching...unfortunately. This was absolutely horrific. Haven't listened to this is a long time...hoped it was bad dream. She has never been a stellar live performer, and it's pretty well documented that she hasn't sounded good since the 70's. It's really too bad...this moment deserved the very best. We didn't get it and the world was watching. Mercy...

  • @MissThingSings Unfortunately my ass! Bitch go somewhere and die, jump off a cliff, slam yourself in a wall. Do something that will make the world a better place. Aretha is the greatest and even talking to a dummy like you is uncalled for. Aretha is the best and nothing your shit stained ass say will never make that different. So hate all but remember this Aretha is the greatest singer of all time. She is still the great singer she was in the 60's and 70's.

  • Who could have thought that the historic inaugural oath taking of Obama would be upstaged by THE HAT. Aretha Franklin herself was not enough to upstage the moment. It was her HAT that tipped the scales against Obama's moment.

  • That was beautiful!!!

  • Everybody gets played retha.

  • 'god save the queen' sounds WAY WAY WAY better than this

  • My Country Tis of Thee should be the national anthem, as, in my opinion, it is more pure than the Star Spangled Banner, and directly represents what this country is really about- freedom.

  • @magickid777 If it were the national anthem of america, then both the UK and USA would have the same anthem tune lol

  • Was Aretha lipsinging

  • My cunt.... try 'tis of thee!

  • @newageoutlaw That is exactly what I thought when I heard it. I looked over at my friend and said did she just say cunt tree? AMAZING

  • u got that right.. do a search engine lookup for mp3ify to download this recording as an mp3!

  • I GOT TO GET ME ONE OF THOSE HATS...........HAHA

  • the starting moment, when the camera shows the huge crowd and the music storms - this is so stressful!

she is so talented. i love her

  • What a moment in American history! And what a performer! The undisputed queen! We love you Aretha! You are an American Icon!

  • americans stealing the british anthem

  • That was beautiful.

  • Ha Ha Ha - she sang "My Cunt" - LoL POOR Phrasing IMO !

  • HAHAHA at 2:13 you hear her tell someone to shut up.

  • HORRIBLE.... ARETHA AND THE BACKGROUND VOCALS.. I KNOW IT WAS COLD BUT THEN SHE SHOULD HAVE WRAPPED HER THROAT UP OR SOMETHING CUZ IT JUS WASNT WORKING FOR HER THT DAY....

  • i was there with my band.... and we could not even stand still for 5 mins let alone talk because it was to cold. to all of you that have somthing bad to say leave her t leave her alone i love her to death...... and she has already made her music point in her life, it was really to cold out there to cold to be singing and she still sang better then any one i can name GREAT JOB

  • @jefftrum I agree with you! Aretha brought the house down! There are some really bitter, spineless people on this blog. Most of the ones doing the complaining probably couldn't sing their way out of a ziplock bag, LOL! I guess it takes all kinds to make up this great nation.

  • @eagleswing44 i know some people in this world are just hateful but like my mom says God sees all and forgives. so i can forgive them for thinking and saying all the negative comments.

  • @jefftrum Your mom is right and you are blessed to have such a righteous mother. On a personal note there is nothing to forgive. I just tell them how I feel and move on. I don't believe in holding grudges, especially toward blatant ignorance and stupidity. Long live the queen of soul! Obama/Biden 2012!

  • Boo!

  • @TheIntruders shut up no need to be rude

  • @TheIntruders Boo back at ya! Give it to em queen! Long live the queen of soul!

  • i was there, she actually brought tears to me and many people around me. one of the greatest experiences ever.

  • Any chance I have to say it: this is the greatest live performance I have ever witnessed. EVER. To sing like that in front of such a vast audience at such a historic moment is beyond my comprehension.

  • Comment removed

  • @mafaon321 there couldn't have been a more fitting person to sing at his inauguration.. such a perfect moment in history.

  • @mafaon321 CONGRATULATIONS!!! YOUR AN IDIOT! :D :D :D :D :D :D

  • @mafaon321 I cried tears of laughter. SHE SAID CUNT TEEHEE

  • To all the people who are like, "OMG SHE SUCKED".. give her a break!! She's almost 70, but she can still sing pretty good.. before you go and judge look at her in the 60's and 70's! No one can say that she sucked then..

  • Aretha was being herself, I don't see why people are so down on her for this performance. She sounds like somebody's momma singing out from her heart.

Hmmmmmm gimme someadat soul Aretha girl.

  • I love the starting "My ccunnt.....try tis of thee" hahaha

  • I like Aretha but his is possibly her worst ever performance. Flat, out of tune and struggling. Her face at 2.36 says it all.

  • @jerkyjaze where where?! i wanna see

  • This is a hot mess, from the GOD AWFUL HAT, TO THE HORRIBLE SINGING! OMG she totally messed up that song! JUST HORRIBLE! and the next time Aretha goes out of her house in an ensemble like that ( esp the HAT) I have two words for her "ASK SOMEBODY"! ROTFL!

  • is that bird on her head.

    Anyway, nice performance.

  • lol is it on youtube i wanna see it

  • OMG! PMSL!! I l o v e Aretha but omg LMFAO @ 1:06 "FATHAAA" lool

  • whst psml ?

  • did anyone notice she sang, "My Coun--try tis of thee"

  • yeah lol i heard it on howard stern. its so great how she can sing about her vagina in front of the whole nation

  • Love the US and this song. This song is a cover for "God save the King"

  • @candutcham

that's why the US adopted the Star-spangled banner as there anthem. MY COUNTRY 'TIS OF THEE was more or less making fun of England when it first came out.

  • God I love America!

  • You know how people sing Star Spangled Banner in old tradition way? Then how come she don't sing My country Tis of thee in old tradition way, too? My grandfather told me, My country Tis of thee is a United States of Confederate's song. I googled it and I'm surprised it is.

  • ur a useless piece of shit u know, kepp ur hatin to ur self next time

  • I think it is a little weird how the presidents Inauguration was sung to the arrangement of UK's national anthem never noticed before ... and aretha was all over the place was difficult to listen too!!

  • definately not. i thought she sounded greatt(:

  • My Vaccum cleaner sounds better than this performance, if you truly are diluded to think this sounds great you need help ;-) LOL

  • Its nice when a two countries can share a song such as this. Even better to hear the Queen singing it. :)

  • @ramsdenrik

this song and god save the queen have the same music, the lyrics change

if you werent so ingorant i think you'd connect the fact that america was a british colony

  • @InbictaProductionzZ and if you were not so rude maybe I would take your comment seriously!! :-)

  • i love aretha franklin she is one of my favourite voices of all time so this isnt against her, but i'm pretty sure that is our British national anthem

  • I could not get that feeling with the way she sang it. It would of sounded alot better, sung the traditional way. It sounded like she did not know the words.

All that extra up and down notes sounded like a mess. (sorry)

  • the hat is a 1920 styled hat. 1920 was the year that a black woman first voted.

  • thats really cool. thanks for sharing. :)

  • aretha you rooockkkk!!!! love youuu, larger than life, larger than envy, larger than bitter loosers, your light cannot be taken away, long live THE QUEEN, AND UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. PEACE OUTTT

  • Way to customize it dum bitch, its not a slow ass song, stupid cunt...Yeah it costs a boatload to live here but GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!!

  • hey hey hey this is what i hate about ppl like you! if you don't like the country move to another goddam country don't try and change this country!!

  • @singpowdow u better tell em..

  • @singpowdow Actually the whole point of this country is that you CAN change it if you want to. That's what democracy is all about, y'know? Like Civil Rights and stuff?

  • the greatest singer is aretha franklin

  • America isn't free. It cost a shitload of money to live in this country.

  • lmao

  • If you don't like the country then go somewhere else! go back to britain or where ever the hell u came from!! its because people like you who make america a digrace!

  • majority of americans are from europe, you idiot.

  • MY CUNT...

    TRY TIS OF THEE

  • she told some guy in the audience to shut up..... probably cause he was maken fun of her hat

  • I was there!

  • SHE WAS GETTIN IT LOLZ once tha blac prez comez yu bout to c alot mo good shit like this lolz yu go ms franklin thaz how we do it haha

  • her voice is so amazing...in one word incomparable. Thank you Aretha =]

lmao I wonder how many people know this is also the UK's national anthem(just different words)

  • Long Live The Queen ! Ms. Aretha franklin

Great Job out side in the cold cold weather.

  • Aretha Franklin started singing back when black women (whether they had a hit record or not) were not treated fairly, the bad attitude you perceive is survival.

  • Gotta lose weight and rehearse. Two things she probably thinks she is ABOVE. She has NO wind to sing.

C'mon! That phrasing on the first line????? YIKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are right! I live in MI and you wouldn't beleive the news about her "attitude" I've read over the yrs. She's a total bitch and thinks she is above everything and everyone! ..we call her "Urethra" instaed of aretha..and really, does she not look like Jabba the Hut in a goofy hat??? lolol

She SOOOO just sang "My cunt..tree tis of thee" lmao!

  • Sorry I'm from Michigan and in the church community......the Franklins (which includes Aretha) are very respected people. The only people that call her Uretha in Detroit are the people who are jealous of her. Mary J. Blige even mentioned that it was very cold and windy and was hard to sing and Mary sung the day before. Aretha sang in the worst conditions and the wind was blowing in her direction. Plus this may not be her best but IT'S WAY BETTER THAN WHAT U COULD DO....GO Aretha & represent!

  • stop hatin guys.....when u all get the chance to sing at an inauguration fat or skinny then u can talk. Otherwise shut up and GET A LIFE! Aretha wonderful JOB!

  • Aretha is so cool!

  • LONG LIVE OUR QUEEN ! I love that hat and when i sit in the pulpit the next time and is not preaching I will have a hat like yours. SMILE...QUEEN... imitation is the best form of flattery.

  • You go Miss Arehta. Long live the Queen! Your hat was the BOMB!...and this is from a white boy honey! Us Gay guys know our DIVAS honey! Work it Miss Franklin

  • A disturbing version? Heck ya...it sounds just like GOD SAVE THE QUEEN!!! Have American's been singing this all these years??

  • Yes, we have.

  • A disturbing version....Aretha is nowhere near as good as she used to be- Her obesity puts her easily out of breath, and she can't hit the high notes anymore...

Plus 'America the Beautiful' would have been better, since 'My Country Tis of Thee' is a song set to the music of the British 'God save the Queen' and the German kaiser hymne.

Disturbing she started the song by breaking the word 'country'- sounds like she was singing about her scum pocket.

And Jesus, that hat belonged to minnie mouse!

  • Such a sturdy melody and text, so fitting for the occasion..... too bad neither were realized in this performance.

  • Yeah..white irish catholics are really to blame for all the problems in human history

  • Why not Patti Labelle?

She would have fit the ocassion much better

  • President Barack Obama wanted a Queen therefore he called The Queen Aretha Franklin. He's a fan of Aretha he once sang her song "Chain of Fools"

Our President deserves to be honored by Royalty which Aretha Franklin is!

  • My Country, Tis of Thee, was created in 1833, & used the melody from 'God save the King' created around 1744 - (Yes the british Anthem). to pay HOMAGE to America's forefathers

  • isn't it "god save the queen" and not "god save the king"?

  • Hi,

It actually changes depending who's on the Throne. When it was written (1744), a King was on the throne. When/if Charles &/or Prince William are King, it will be sung "God save the King" once again.

  • interesting!

i honestly did not know that- thanks!

  • I meant to say that I still think she's awesome!

  • Aretha is a living legend- it's wonderful that she was honored to sing. Very classy and appropriate choice for such a dignified occasion. As for those who would criticize her-as a singer myself, voices don't work well in the freezing cold, plus, age takes a toll on a voice. Aretha has given us decades of legendary performances and recordings that we'll be listening to for decades. So many profoundly ignorant and disrespectful comments about people who have given so much to country and humanity.

  • lethaluva: Thank you for these words of wisdom. If the youth of today truly understood the magnitude of what performers like Aretha did during the civil rights movement they would shut their mouths. We as African Americans did not have a loud voice in politics so we had to do it through songs, sermons, demonstrations and peaceful protest. Aretha lent her amazing ability to the dream like so many other performers of her time. Obama chose the right Lady for the job. What an emotional day!

  • Hi eagleswing44: What a nice response to my post! It was an emotional day. It just meant so much to so many. Oh, and not that it makes any difference, but I happen to be white on the outside. :-) I am just so moved that our country is finally growing up and seeing the quality of the person within and embracing those of other races and creeds as true brothers and sisters. Obama is the right man for the job -a great unifier, and on Jan 20th he gave the US its self-esteem back.

  • Amen! Thank You!

  • Ok Billy!!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry very bad singing, maybe she was impressed by the crowd. I am surprised myself she has usually a very good voice. Jennifer Hudson will have been perfect, Too bad that she has to deal with deaths.

  • Who were you listening too. Maybe you couldn't see or hear through you white hood.

  • Yeah!

Anyone who think a black person doesnt sing well is a KKK member..now that Barack is the man in office..nice dude..

BTW everyone talks about helping the poor, doesnt help when you send 160 mil on an inauguration, I love Barack and America because I will always support America, no matter who is in office, but come on you can preach spreading the wealth when you spend 4x as much as anyone else on a inaguration ceremony

  • Dude, do you even know who is aretha franklin???

  • What a classic. This will be talked about for decades.

  • Since we are celebrating change it is time to change the crown of the Queen of soul. I love what Aretha stands for but it is time to pass on the crown to someone else. What's wrong with that. Bush did it.
