In addition, the law was established not to punish the public but to prevent them from committing adultery which would affect lineage, for example the children not knowing who their father is or children that have numerous step brothers and sisters that they dont know about. In addition, it protects the essence of the family structure.

its important to note that both the woman and man are responsible for the sin that they committed. Secondly there has to be 4 witnesses that have been there in the scene and have seen what occurred. And the punishment of those that weren't already in a marriage is treated differently then those that were in a marriage.

Just sad. I am so thankful I do not live in a country/culture which believes this is how to deal with those who make mistakes. In a country which grooms their children for arrainged marriages and expect to be happy for the one chosen for them. Just very sad. If you look at the whole adultery thing--you make it seem like adultery should have no punishment. Looking at it from the eyes of a Muslim, you shouldn't do things like oh, I dunno, have sex with someone else when you're married? If your husband was abusiv, you have the right to divorce him. But cheat on someone you're married to--you just make it sound like it's a normal way of life, which is, if you think about it, VERY dysfunctional.

Either way, I think the practice is often abused as in the case of Soraya (who was innocent) and especially in the case of Aisha Ibrahim Duhulow, a thirteen year old Somali girl who was stoned to death after being gangraped.

Watch the movie and you will see, she was falsely accused because she refused to divorce her husband who CHEATED on her various times in front of the village.
