  • Why i'm living in Poland? It sucks...

  • What happened to romance? What I would give to dance cheek to cheek by candlelight to this song with the one I love passionately.

  • @birdoben50 it's Jazz, and Jazz was originally created in America. despite the song itself, you're right.

  • i wish he could live forever. he's such a legend.

  • For me Frank was the greatest, but nobody sing (or sang) "If I ruled the world" better. I'm glad, that He is still with us :)

  • I wish I lived these days when Music was Music...

    When Singers were Singers...

Not that I dislike nowadays tunes but when I Iisten to this song, think I really missed something in music, for being born much too late...

  • If i ruled the world...No racism, no hatred, no war, no famine, no world hunger, no diseases, no bad...my world would embrace peace, love, and happiness..it would flourish everywhere and anywhere man could walk upon...if i ruled the world..

  • @ItsDaPhenom01 DREAM ON! Human Nature would never allow this! The "great creator" didn't have this in his infinite plan. Sinatra will always be no. 1, and this guy is a far 2nd.(I'll hear about this?)

  • i wish Andy Hallett was able to record a full version of his cover of it, from the show Angel. the final episode to be exact

  • TRUE LEGEND

  • Who hasn't tried to sing this song? I remember the first time I heard this song play on the radio growing up in Hoffman Estates, Illinois some 50 years ago or so, and soon after, I had to add it to my growing list of 45's of which at the time I only had only 2 and they were Elvis's" Don't Be Cruel" and "Hound Dog. "

  • Class

  • how humble - Tony Bennet does rule the world.

  • Perfecto :) Great song.

  • epic song.

  • Feliz Año 2011

  • Just a great, great one from Tony.

  • %hanks Tony for all of your songs. I was privileged to hear you in concert in June in my hometown of Columbia SC and wanted to sing-along all the way. Keep it up as I do volunteering in 4 hospitals with teacart/cookies & songs. "The Music Lady"

  • @yakuza488 Yes. In English. But in most other languages it doesn't. :)

For instance, in German it's called Weinachten and it has the word "wein" in it, which means wine. And "acht" means eight.

In Hungarian it's called "karácsony", which has "kar" (meaning arm), and "ács" (meaning carpenter) in it, but it has obviously nothing to do with them, and these words arent't the roots of the word karácsony, or in German, Weinachten. :)

So it's really not a big deal.

  • @exarifov sorry i speak german and its called "Weihnachten" and has nothing to do with wine. Frohe Weihnachten allerseits!:)

  • @ShaanSilva Alright, I give this to you. I never liked German anyway :)

    Merry Christmas to you too.

  • simplesmente um sonho,um contato com deus!

    uma grande viagem.

  • thes best

  • one of the greatest recordings ever...a must on any list...by the great Tony Bennett

  • Every morning, the satellite cafe, at the nevins exit of the subway, with a cup of coffee and a toasted corn muffins. How could you leave the cafe with nothing but a smile. great song!

  • Just beautiful and so relaxing.

  • "one person missed the like button"

    I'm so original.

  • Absolutly brilliant life time fan

  • He just sang it so beautifully. This classic will never grow old. I hope we get something like this in this day and age.

  • such a great singer and a great song

  • just to let you guys know. this is like an amazing song from an epic person

  • verrygood

  • Thumbs up if you first heard this on on "Bruce Almighty"!

  • @Weezing336

Also, thumbs up if you grew up listening to Tony in the '50s and '60s like me.

  • @1Bluesboy1 nope i grew up in the 90's

  • @1Bluesboy1 I was born in 1989 but still love this genre of music.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh just kidding, cool song it is :) so smooth and calm.

  • @1Bluesboy1 lucky

  • @1Bluesboy1 Thumbs up if it wasn't the '50s and '60s, but you still grew up listening to this!

  • Tony Bennett is a legend and it puts my generation to shame.

Sinatra, Dean Martin, Louis Armstrong, Fred Astaire, Cab Calloway, Ray Charles, Hank Williams (He's a legend of country music for all those who don't know), etc.

These are the immortals that will stay with us forever. God Bless every single one of these masters of their genre.

  • Very nice song. Just makes you smile. =)

  • As a fan of Metallica, Acid Jazz, Aphex Twin and Bob Dylan, I must say that this guy is awesome!

  • You are Amazing Mr. Bennett I salute you!

not many singers have the soul/fealing as you have in your songs.

5 stars From Me too you Mr.Bennett

  • Jeez guys.......just shut up and listen to the music.....sheesh !!!

  • wouldn't that be insane if Tony Bennett and Metallica did a show together with Tony Bennett singing Metallica songs with his style than Metallica doing metal versions of Tony Bennett songs, I think that would be insanely nutty and I think it could be pulled off well.

  • @romski4u ... you dont know.

  • im a metalhead and tony bennet rocks man \\m//

  • The comment about 'not liking songs of my generation' cos its all crap is stupid, cos every generation/decade has had bad music - or music to just enjoy in the moment, but once you leave that decade it's the really good songs you always remember.

  • wow!

  • The original is just as wonderful! :) I loved Jamie Cullum's take on this song, so I decided to check out the original. They are both first-rate! :)

  • Its A nice song n all im in love with the lyrics but i think it needs a new beat to it n probs a new voice too

no affence too dis dude cause he's epic =)

  • Talk about some epic lung capacity towards the end!

I would love to be able to sing like this man can.

  • Absolutely fantistic! What more to say?

  • @soulgirlKC Because he wants dictorial control over every human on the planet. Which is evil. Most people dislike that theme.

  • @Ytaker You're an idiot. the metaphor is obviously beyond your junior high capacity. You put the dick in dictator. Listen to the words, moron, not the title. The dumbing down of Murka continues.... jeez.

  • @slownoman If I ruled the world, everything would be awesome? As a british university student, I perfectly understand the metaphor. Democrat party members like him have a long history of believing everything would be amazing and full of dancing if they could just do what they know in their hearts is right.

Understand- he has a simplistic, republicans are evil, democrats are awesome political view, and he wants to make everything better by just changing things. That is bad.

  • @Ytaker Dear wanker: have you actually listened to the song? It's not about politics, you fascist freak. Yeah, change is terrible. Let's go back to the middle ages, you old wanker you. Up yours.

  • @slownoman The song was originally an election manifesto in a musical. His utter lack of any regard for anyone who doesn't want to do what he wants pisses me off. If I ruled the world, I'd stick with the freedom bit, and not the behavour control.

You're using fascist as a term for, political person you dislike, I presume? By Godwin's law, you just lost this argument.

The sort of change he wants half of people hate. As such, I dislike him singing this song even more.

  • @Ytaker You have your head up your ass. This song, by any sane interpretation, was an evocation of a world of equality, peace, and all those things you hate. Piss off.

  • @slownoman Er, no it's not. There's nothing much about peace, or equality. It's basically a song saying, if he ruled the world, everyone would sing and dance with him, and it would be so awesome. This sort of simplistic interpretation of the world is endearing to some, and creepy to others- like me. To get actual peace and equality, the main impediment is the whole, dictatorship thing.

You know. The whole reason we lack peace and equality is because people rule the world.

  • @Ytaker Whatever substance you're on isn't working for you. Read the lyric- you can Google it. It is NOT about dick-taters, or about governmental principles at all. Of course, in jr. high they didn't teach you that. But, you know, the resolution is simple enough even for you to grasp: don't listen to the song. I shudder to think what might constitute your musical "taste". The Clash? Fugazi? Probably the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus. What. Ever.

  • @slownoman I did read the lyric and listen to it. That's where I got my impression of it. You disagree, but you're not giving me any reason to change my mind. The opposite, rather.

There is another solution. I continue saying the song is bad. I prefer that solution.

I'm not into your sort of music. I hate Miley Cyrus and Jonas Brothers. Bird and the bee, Goldfrapp, and Imogen Heap for me.

  • @Ytaker Typical junior college freshman. You would know a metaphor if it hit you over your empty head. Dumbass.

  • @slownoman Second year, not freshman. You have a lot of stereotypes, and rage. You should get help. I'm not quite sure how you read this song as a metaphor. He's pretty straightforward on what he wants to do. You seem like a typical person who doesn't understand what a metaphor actually is. There is no analogy here.

  • @Ytaker wow. thus, sophomoric. Yet, there's hope, that the years might bring you beyond one dimensional thinking, if you can glorify what you blurt as thinking. What does the lyric "ever day would be the first day of spring" mean to you, twit? Does it mean that the singer or writer actually thought that he/she/it could, but force, make each day the vernal equinox? If not, how is that not a metaphor, you simpleton? God gave better brains to a rubber duck. My eight year old grandson is past you.

  • @slownoman You're the one being a retard. Ok, there's a metaphor in the song. How is that at all related to what we were talking about. How does that challenge my point that the song has rather sickening undertones? I thought you meant that the whole song was a metaphor for something, thus negating the bad undertones. Not that you were just randomly saying that there's metaphors in the songs.

I get what you're saying, I just don't see how it's relevent to anything.

  • @Ytaker Yep. you don't get it. so many songs, if taken straight literally, are goofy. Good luck with your education.

  • @slownoman Yes, but most goofy songs don't wish for really bad things. There are many songs. Most wish for things like drugs, or sex, or love, not world dominance.

  • i'm a Sinatra fan but love songs like this and this suits Tony's voice brilliantly, class singer and very lovely man (met him once) Legend Tony Legend Long live them all

  • I absolutely love this song......... No disrespect to Mr. Bennett, but I LOVE the

    SAMMY DAVIS JR. version best.

What beautiful lyrics, and the lilting tune is so sing-able. Thank you for posting it.

  • @soulgirlKC i know right soo fucked up!! its the younger generation but im not a hypocrite i dont listen to thoose shit ...because the world now is filled with horrible ppl trying to make innocent people bad very bad! sure enough they will deserve what they get in the end

  • No-one's mentioned that this song was orginally sung by Harry Secombe and reached no 18 in the UK charts. You can hear Harry's version on youtube - totally different - he reaches a top B flat!

  • HOW EXTRAORDINARY..

  • that's touching ^^

  • Great song and such an amazing performance.

    True music it is.

  • Rebecca Ann King sang this song on the way to winning Miss America in 1973, but wasn't quite so good as thislegend we know as Tony Bennett.

  • ahhh this song relaxs me everytime i hear it.

  • timeless piece of music.

  • 'If I Ruled the World' is by the British composer, Cyril Ornadel. "Pickwick" is a wonderful musical, but he also won Best British Musical awards for his "Great Expectations" and "Treasure Island". (Bing Crosby made a wonderful recording of "At My Time of Life" from "Great Expectations".) For many years, Cyril Ornandel was Musical Director of BBC TV's "Sunday Night at the London Palladium". He now retired and lives in Tel Aviv. His autobiography "Reach For The Moon" was published last year.

  • @bookworm1818
