tao's proven over and over what an amazing paddler he is. Anyone saying it's all been stunts over the years probably doesn't own a creek boat and therefore is irrelevant.
This type of deliberate action just supports the fact that this individual suffers from a brain chemistry imbalance, requiring ever more dangerous stunts to supply a fix of euphoria. This is what is underlying this action, not bravery. Sad really, especially for his loved ones.
@famousPhotog You have no idea what you are talking about...sit on your couch and talk some more trash about somebody actually LIVING life. You can never understand why kayakers do it until you try it. Nothing sad about this...
@tdock14 Actually, I do know what I am talking about, and I do understand why some people are addicted to stunting, whether it be kayaking, cliff diving, base jumping, etc. I am not talking "trash" and I don't just sit on my couch. Maybe you need to be a bit more educated in psychology.
@famousPhotog Take your psychological evaluation elsewhere. Kayaking is not "stunting" as you say. You have a big misconception about what the sport is. Tao is probably the best at pulling off big drops.. there is a lot of scouting and planning that goes into this "stunt" as you say. He wouldn't attempt a drop unless he was almost certain he could run it successfully. You gonna go around calling mountain bikers, skiers and climbers insane too?
@tdock14 I am not suggesting that all kayaking falls under the category of "stunting". What I am saying is that as one approaches the level of peril wherein one tiny mistake or random act on the part of nature will cost someone their life, you are in the area of "stunting". All the planning in the world by Tao is not going to account for every possible circumstance or freak occurrence imposed upon him in real time by nature, and to suggest otherwise is ludicrous.
man, i have been creeking for years... this is crazy. I'd like to see you run something like that... i have done big timber creek, the fraser and many rivers... that stuff IS CRAZY
Yeah, I think its Tao Berman in the kayak (he lives next to White Salmon on the White Salmon River in Washington State, USA.) He came to my school for a presentation one day. He said the only way to live decently from kayaking is to do some crazy stuff ;)
Its kinda funny, he is so strong but he is only 1m60 (his height).
