It is very...interesting seeing how well that would work. The only problem for me is that Kaworu just sort of looked like Kaworu with a mullet, though that might just be that my familiarity with bishounen standards leads me to seeing him as male by default.
No I understand where you're coming from, Kaworu(Kawori) still looks like a bishounen in drag here. Most of the seitenkan art makes her kind of androgynous though, so the reverse trap Kaworu might have been intentional.

Who knows how different Shinji's treatment by Gendo would have been if he was a girl or effeminate?
By the relationship Rei has with Gendo, I don't think it would be good. A girl Shinji looks much more like Yui than Rei does....I think Gendo would like that, the sick bastard.
Shinji does look like Yui, and giving him the same hairstyle mama had (and breasts) probably isn't helping. Gendo doesn't seem to care too much though, which I guess makes it ironic that he's so intent on hurting the closest thing to naturally look like her.

They did give Shinji a facial design that was nearly identical to Yui/Rei, in part it probably was a subtle way to highlight his relation and parallels with the two. But Sadamoto also did say that Shinji having a girl's face was supposed to emphasise his femenity.
I probably should , but I really don't know if I can handle it well enough to keep their tone. And Shinji(ko)'s androgynous Ogata voice is already almost ideal for the part so I'd need to tweak Kaworu's just enough that it sounds feminine. If anyone wants to try and do it with their acount though, I can put up the Mp4 file up.
Even though I don't like the whole genderbending fandom I have to give this video props. I can tell a lot of effort was put into this since it is frame by frame. It's very well done. I wonder if it took very long.
Yes they were extremely meticulous at this, it does look like they handled the editing, by frame, and tweaked all sorts of details, like the contours about their bodies (Its a bit more noticeable with Kaworu since Shinji already had girl proportions). It probably did take quite a while, even if it was androgynous bishounen they were working on.

But to be fair it isnt impossible, pretty boy type characters arent too difficult to make into pretty girls; Shinji really did already look kind of like a girl (remember Episodes 8&9) and Kaworu might not look as soft/moe as Shinji but hes also androgynous in his own way and can crossover to the mature senpai archetype rather well...

This was great. It was obviously very well done. My only suggestion would be to make the voices sound higher, to complete the scene.
