Iq tests that are based on general knowledge and information are just stupid and should not be taken.. Iq tests should be based on logic .. iQ isn't about whether you do or do not know the piece of information you're asked about it's about how you understand it when you receive it .. E.g. @Featureman False. IQ is a partial measure of our ability to process information. Performance on conventional IQ tests rely heavily on crystallized processing skills, which are largely inherent, and remain constant through a lifetime. Most psychologist administered IQ tests are very poor measures of fluid intelligence, which include skills such as Working memory, Response inhibition, and Abstract reasoning, that are involved in higher cognitive skills, such as pattern recognition.
"I.Q. tests"? Oh, what folly! A man's intellect can be determined (with a number assigned) based solely on his answers to a collection of inane questions? One must have enormous faith in collectivism to measure the intangible, ideogenetic id.
That's why they make the Wechsler subtests different from what you're used to doing so there isn't a practice effect. They measure what other I.Q tests measure, but theoretically more accurate. When was the last time someone asked you to orally define "ironic"? Or ask "what is the similarity between a tree and a fly"? Or tell you to put red and white colored blocks together as fast as you can to match a design? My score surprisingly came out to a 151, which is higher then my ottis-lennon ones
if u guess the answers to questions aren't you only cheating yourself because the results won't reflect the truth? there seems to be many types of intelligence so i question the value of these tests. a person could have high scores in one type
e.g. musical interval recognition, and lower scores in another...
@cliffworks4321 It would be unwise to just answer the questions you know. High I Q tests are based on score, not knowledge. Intelligence is how a person processes information. That is the key. Guessing what you do not know will increase your score and show your intelligence. Thanks.
@Featureman interesting thought and outlook thanks, i had a book around here somewhere called the making of intelligence a pretty good read, now where the hell is it, since the 3/11 earthquake can't find anything
@MyArtSchool That is done with a green screen or chroma key. I use Magix Pro 14. I stand in front of a green background and insert a still picture in the space behind me with chroma key. Good luck. Thanks.
@Featureman Thank you for replying :) I used to do like you by standing in front of a green screen and I use Ulead progamm to edit BUT it's blur and not clear at all. what you did was so perfect. I have no idea to do it perfect like that.
@MyArtSchool The lighting and the color of green or blue is very important. Look at my video The Noah Song and that is what you want your green to look like with lots and lots of even light. Thanks.
The long involved computational questions that you mention normally have a simple answer and do not require you to waste your time and methodically work through them. You have to look for the part of the question that contains the right information. Remember it is a test of intelligence not of mathematical or computational ability.
I find it hard to believe that reasonably intelligent people need to be told to just guess if they don't know the answer.
Sorry for being late on this , Tom , but I've kinda been busy. Some useful info there. I'm curious to see what my IQ is. Mmm.. not too big I guess. Great musicians aren't smart. Come on, you think Elvis liked doing Maths ?
@IWannaGetFamous Actually, one of the things to remember about intellect is... Great inventors are lazy. They always look for easier ways to do hard work. To be smart you must do what you enjoy, like play music and make people want to pay money for your music. Elvis probably stopped counting after RCA gave him $35,000. He had Colonel Tom to do the math after that.
Yeah, my major weakness when it comes to tests is mental processing speed. This was the main issue I encountered when I took the SAT again last year. I made a video on youtube about that.
The SAT takes some of your score away if you put down the wrong answer to a question so it's probably not in your best interest to guess on that exam. It might still be. I haven't done any computations to figure out whether it's worth risking some points off in order to get a question right.
this is actually timeless wisdom & I'm very glad you posted it here! at my age I need all the help I can get. remember: enjoyable wasted time is not time wasted at all!
cool, man - these kind of strategies work well for effective statesmen too; Foreign Service exams have had these ideas for long time ... it's sorta like this when meeting wtih other state reps, y'know
@nickeax That is so true. There are so many kinds of intelligence which have nothing to do with questions on paper. I could answer tests about fixing a car but I could not fix the car.
Attention: This is great advice for any test. Especially the SATs (not sure about the ACT, I never took them.) and ESPECIALLY the Praxis tests. The Praxis test will mess you up.
@petrieds10 Thanks. I have taken several kinds of IQ tests and I know they all seem to have the same formula with different questions. I have not taken a SAT or Praxis test. That is interesting to know about them.
Thank you! You cured my insomnia!
