@paloma111000 First off, people like the Associated Press and RT (Russia Today) are news media groups, and they have lawyers and money, and I'm pretty sure they go through all the legal channels to get permission from the content owner to upload the videos.
"I don't want people stealing my content." You just stole it again when you included it here, or is that "Fair Use," something "businessmen" like you don't believe in.
@Jon Nice talk coming from a Partner. Go fuck yourself asshole. Im personally going to be a fucking nightmare for you. Seriously, why the fuck did YT give a prick like you a partnership....YT's standards have gone WAYYYYY down. Again, fuck off....
@CanEHdianRocker - Sorry bro, you were wrong. I called you on it. The appropriate thing to do would be to acknowledge that, apologize, and move on. Not get all burt-hurt about it.
So, care to apologize for calling me a "self-jerk", and an "asshole"... all because *you* don't understand the difference between copyright infringement and fair use?
@Jon dude enough of your verbal diarrhea. I still dont agree with you. Its a grey area when it comes to fair use! Not all reuse of copyrighted material is copyright infringement or plagiarism. Some uses are perfectly legal and ethical, thus getting them dubbed “fair use". Who are you to judge me man? Ill go far in life, you got that right. Ive done things you dream of. Now Im seriously done arguing with your tralier park ass.
@CanEHdianRocker - It's not a question of what you "agree" with - it's a really cut-and-dry interpretation of US Copyright Law. I do this for a living. I am a professional video creator, and I know much more about this than you do.
All I was ever saying is that *my* use of the clip in this video constitutes fair use. To suggest otherwise - in this instance only - makes you 100% wrong.
So, I called you on it. Just accept it dude, you made a mistake, and insulted me for no reason.
@CanEHdianRocker - And where do you even get "trailer park" from? I live in a house, in an affluent New Hampshire town... you're so pathetic, you're just pulling at ad hominem straws now. Apologize before you embarrass yourself any further...
@Jon you do relise that subscribers dosnt mean how hard you work, look at ray william jhonson all he does is review 3 vids a week but has 2nd most subscribed and how am i a idiot because i am objecting to ur statment of saying its hard work? off course and no i wont stfu, you fucking idiot.
@DJsharp707 You are correct, subscribers doesn't necessarily always correlate to the difficulty of the work produced. But in my case, it does.
If you seriously think all I do is press a button and record myself, you are a complete fucking dipshit. And something tells me you know this - so how about you quit trolling, and apologize for being a dick?
@DJsharp707 Hey dumbass, Youtube is a hobby for pretty much everyone. Children, do it after/before school for the fun and inner activeness. Adults do it after/before work for pretty much the same reason. To get paid for it is just a bonus. Anyone who do Youtube video JUST for money is obviously missing the point.
@Jamesbentley47 It's under 30 seconds per clip bud, therefore it's ok for him to use it. He also has it flipped, further allowing him grant to use it. YOU didn't really think this through.
I wouldn't of went to their website anyways honestly. I don't do news websites anymore and I really don't think it would be as popular if it wasn't for him.
Jon, is that $22,000 just for your Jon channel or all of your channels? Could you tell me roughly how much you earn per view? I am guessing that you and your two microwave buddies make about $75,000 per year? Thanks.
Question; if I make a montage consisting of under 8 second clips from various other videos and if I add background music can I legally sell a high quality version of the video for a dollar over itunes? Or is that against copyright?
stolen video?? once its on youtube its free for everybody ...hell i just might rip this video and download it on my computer you gonna take my computer or something?? lol
I agree with everything that was said in this video. But keep in mind that ritchey did not post this video for fame or money. He saw it on his local newspapers website and knew it would get very few views there. So he posted it on youtube where he knew it would get views and his only motivation for doing so, was to try to help this man. And it would not have gone viral if ritchey didn't post it here on youtube.
But that being said, you can't steal peoples stuff either.
Good info, and interesting topic as always, well maybe not always nothing is perfect, but I like watching your vids to get another perspective on things.
so would u care if i take the "is it a good idea to microwave airbag?" episode and put it on my channel but give u all the right and make sure people go to and not me and give you copyright and and all that fun stuff?
@Jon alright just making sure. But would it be ok if i have a screen shot of one of your videos in one of my videos that i am making my self since you are one of my favorite youtubers and have inspire me to make videos and post them on here. im not trying to be a pest or anything im just making sure so i dont get suspended.
If you feel like and want to talk about this more please message me and we will further disgust this, if you have time and fell like it.
Ok, so the original video with 13 million views (which was gotten in just 48 hours), which was uploaded by the user 'ritchey', got removed do to Copyright.
Later, popular news shows such as Associated Press, and others, uploaded the video. After they uploaded it, ritcheys video got removed for copyright! That's wrong!
Copyright is soon going to take over YouTube. Give this comment a thumbs up if you agree.
@Jon Like you said they should of monetized it. When the AP took the video down they were being no better than the people that put it up and stole it from them. Now their reupload is lucky to be even half as popular on youtube as the original youtube upload. Like you said (again.) the AP should have monetized the video now they are going to lose profits that they would of gained from Ritchies upload. In this scenario both Ritchey and the dispatch are to blame.
The idea was for this guy to get viewed and get a job. They did that. However, now it looks like the newspaper saying "Oh, wait. We didn't actually care about the guy getting exposed. We just wanted to make money off his story". I can appreciate it being the Newspaper's content, but they shouldn't lie about their "Noble Purpose".
It was the guy that posted the clip that got the guy noticed. More power to HIM, not the Newspaper. At least, that's my view.
So as a baby, this man popped out of his mothers vagina. They discussed a title to call him by, they decided eventually that his title should be Jon, thus Jon became his name.
Yeah my dad just thought it was like ted's agents or something that removed it and he was going to show it to me and then he literally said "this video blows up and now he takes it down what an ass" no joke
I don't know why this video was for the second time in my 'new video's from subscriptions'. I watched it again (because i'm partly drunk) and it was one of the best video's i've ever seen, in a drunk state of mind... :D Keep on going! Grtz from Belgium!
So what about RayWilliamJohnson? He steals videos. Even though the hits go up a lot more, it's still stealing.
I wouldn't mind if he stole one of my videos and I'm sure nobody else would mind. But still.....he's stealing the content...*Looks around the room* What is nobody with me?
@314Marvin I think you read "So what about RayWilliamJohnson?" and decided to respond.
I said the hits go up. I was implying he tells us whose video it is. But that's in the description. The majority of the YouTube community never read the description. He gives no credit in the video. And a lot of the time he either takes him time to paste a link or doesn't even do it.
He gets no permission. It's still stealing. Promoting something does not give you the right to do what you want with it.

god...... thats crazy id kill my self if i missed the chance for 13 mil views and all that money well okay not kill my self. kill the guy who posted it
@Jon keep these videos coming--not only do you have an excellent voice, you have the god given talent of real intelligence-something lacking most of the time on the internet.
Again copyright and trademark infringes upon people doing that publicly as Michael Buffer will make you fork over royalties. That goes for his brother Bruce Buffer as well. When he does: "it's time" or "we are a live" and you want to do it or get him to do it for you, then you have to pay him $30,000. So unless you go through that, then you can't do it publicly.
I love being able to see your contents again, you are really at what you do.
Well I don't if it's just my opinion - but I really prefer it when you do 'Jon's World' without this bluescreen thing. I like seeing a desk, an office and all those stuff.
Just wanted to let you know. The content is excellent as always.
Jon, I respect that you know a lot about what your doing and are able to share your knowledge accordingly. However, I have one question. When the news program posted that video on their website, were they actually aiming for gaining money and attention world-wide, or were they just wanting to cover a local story? I understand they missed out on quick and easy money, however, if they were just doing a local story, it'd make no sence for them to get a youtube account to make money.
@KohhiAi - I'm not them, so I can't speak for their motives. But I know one thing for sure -- they don't like people stealing their material as much as anyone.
So... I'm greedy because I wish to earn money for my hard work? I didn't quit my job in television and buy a house so I could work 50+ hours a week making videos for nothing pal.
And more importantly, if you think money isn't important - you're crazy.
Wow, I actually enjoyed this video very much.
It was interesting, informative, and I get to here what you think (which seems quite fair and unbiased). I applaud you for it :)

@MetalFace0U812 - Well, luckily for you -- you can do that. I have a radio show in syndication every Sunday night at 7pm.
Jon 1 year ago 10
@Jon Are you serious!? Does it broadcast in NJ?
Daggerspine107 1 year ago
@Daggerspine107 - Well, it's syndicated on the internet now.
Jon 1 year ago
@Jon Not sure what "syndicated" is but does that mean you could provide a link where we could listen? That would be awesome :).
adyboss10 1 year ago
@Jon Oh awsome. Can I get a link for that? Thanks for the response btw.
Daggerspine107 1 year ago
@Jon keep these videos coming--not only do you have an excellent voice, you have the god given talent of real intelligence-something lacking most of the time on the internet.

Again copyright and trademark infringes upon people doing that publicly as Michael Buffer will make you fork over royalties. That goes for his brother Bruce Buffer as well. When he does: "it's time" or "we are a live" and you want to do it or get him to do it for you, then you have to pay him $30,000. So unless you go through that, then you can't do it publicly.

my question is,how do you make your videos not have glare form your glasses, Jon?

Jon great video,
I love being able to see your contents again, you are really at what you do.
Well I don't if it's just my opinion - but I really prefer it when you do 'Jon's World' without this bluescreen thing. I like seeing a desk, an office and all those stuff.
Just wanted to let you know. The content is excellent as always.

Hey Jon, wouldn't internet fair use laws play a part in this case?
didderson 1 year ago
@didderson - Well, not - because the stolen clip wasn't anywhere close to fair-use.

Oh shit is Anthony Hopkins making another movie? They need to jump on that Hannibal sequel before he gets up there too much.
Thebombjizz 1 year ago
Jon, I respect that you know a lot about what your doing and are able to share your knowledge accordingly. However, I have one question. When the news program posted that video on their website, were they actually aiming for gaining money and attention world-wide, or were they just wanting to cover a local story? I understand they missed out on quick and easy money, however, if they were just doing a local story, it'd make no sence for them to get a youtube account to make money.
KohhiAi 1 year ago
@KohhiAi - I'm not them, so I can't speak for their motives. But I know one thing for sure -- they don't like people stealing their material as much as anyone.
Jon 1 year ago
@xxfiver - Um... I make lots of other content besides WATJ... dipshit.
Jon 1 year ago 32
@Jon Your videos are definately worth stealing, if I was a thief lol.
iamenjoi 1 year ago
@Jon You're right, and WATJ is the stuff I actually like watching best, as it is the most meaningful content (to me) =3
Now that I read this myself, it might be understood wrong, but I guess you get the point =]

Jon you are just another greedy guy. You can't see much of anything except money.
divotit 1 year ago
@divotit - And you're just another asshole troll.
So... I'm greedy because I wish to earn money for my hard work? I didn't quit my job in television and buy a house so I could work 50+ hours a week making videos for nothing pal.
And more importantly, if you think money isn't important - you're crazy.
Jon 1 year ago
Greedy man.
