  • My grandfather is one of the retirees that your speaking of. What a sad sad way to run a city taking away money they put in all while giving the mayor an unreal amount of money in a "raise". And yet nothing has been done what is this country coming to?

  • @Kirstie1109 - I'm sorry for your grandfather, it just seems to me the wrong thing to do. I don't know what this country is coming to...

  • @AngelWillGetYouBitch - Yes, scary times ahead for us all. Just watching it unfold is stressful enough.

  • @AngelWillGetYouBitch - I see what you're saying, but it comes down to the fact that they were promised. Maybe moving forward we should rethink that model, but when you've been paying into something, and it was part of your job benefit package, when retirement comes, it should be yours.

Businesses are held to their contracts, why not government?

  • That sure is scary... There doesn't seem to be an easy ride for anyone anymore.

  • @fehquig - Not much you can count on anymore.

  • @burchish - They might buy munis. There's just no end in sight.

  • I didn't know that. You have to wonder what the "real" stories are if the media only covered it. How scary it must be for the retired. What do they do?

  • @Pippilly - I don't know what they do, but regardless of what some think of city pensions, these people planned and counted on that money to be there.

The city should share the pain, spread it out among everyone.

  • I heard someone say the other day that the state of illinois was in even worse shape (for it's size of course) than California. They are spending $2 for every $1 they take in in taxes. Yikes!!! I've not Googled it yet though. These days it pays to fact check pretty much everything you hear, LOL.

  • @Blinkazoid - True, always research, especially if you're talking cable news.

I take it back, I do want to bury my head in the sand, or maybe find a bigger rock to crawl under. lol ;)

  • Prichard is reaping what it created. Keep following republican ideals and all of you will be homeless before long.

  • @Maiyanna It's taken me a long time to get past the despair of my disappointment with Americans, due to my "immigrant experience" but I now have a new perspective and renewed hope. I'm thinking you will also.

  • ...or you can do as Ian Crossland suggests "Make your own currency" /watch?v=PLcV1SFF298 lulz

  • @jrsnyderjr - You can always count on Ian for lulz. ;)

  • This is just the beginning. The Arizona State Retirement System is funded by employees and includes state, county and municipal employees stated wide. They have stated there will be no cost of living adjustments until 2020 and they've already raised employee contributions to over 10% of each paycheck. Anyone who really understands how the system is invested knows that realistically it can't fund the retired employees it already has now no matter what they say.

  • Additionally the State of Arizona is not technically but factually insolvent and broke. No one knows how when the new legislature convenes in January how they budget will be dealt with. We voted to increase the sales tax and that's not generating hardly any revenue and we have been surviving on budget tricks that have run out.

It's not just Arizona though, this is an issue across the country, making Orange County going bankrupt in the 80s seem like small potatoes.

  • ps...you're making vlogs too fast on these topics for me to catch up and respond.

I think I'll settle for one that basically states that 2011 is the year insolvency finally arrives to state and local governments but it actually is an opportunity for a "redo" of government. We think too negatively of these things, these institutions need to be broken down and yes, people will get hurt but others are hurting already in other ways.

I also think a stock market crash will be an opportunity...

  • @jrsnyderjr - lol I'm sorry.

Yes, it's good to look at what's to come as an opportunity. I just haven't reached that point in my own education yet. As I learn, I turn the camera on to share.

YT is good for that (tutorials) and a place to find more offbeat info (truth) ;)

  • @jrsnyderjr - A scary time to be a retiree. Well... we are all affected in one way or another.

  • I live in Los Angeles CA... but I wont be here for long, because this state is pretty much screwed.

  • @tupacthug4life - They will likely get some kind of bailout, eventually they'll have to make cuts to the budget, you can't help but wonder, what cuts will be made?

  • @Maiyanna More cuts in education no doubt.

  • This is a very important story. Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • @cavejourney - No, thank you for watching. ;)

  • You don't have to be happy to be interesting. This was both scary and interesting...

Hope this doesn't foretell the future..

  • @2bsirius - I hope other communities pay attention and deal with it before it comes to this for them as well. ;)

  • Every cloud has a silver lining. Hmmmm I bet houses are cheap down there. Maybe we SSI retirees should take over the town!

  • @KasparHauser5 - Property is cheap all over, good time to buy I guess.

  • Hello Maiyanna not been about much but watching a few videos. wanted to wish you a happy new year. x.

  • @realnutty01 - Thank you Kim, same to you and Tam. ;)

  • Fortunately in Calif they can get food stamps, and the 211 united way helps with housing. Still, with no money that kinda sucks

  • @Talljim01 - Oh yeah, you're in California. These are extreme times, people need help.
