According to my calculations, t = tangent force r = rotational vector g = gravity L = linear movement then:
(t)(r)^2/g * L(r) shows that as the camera moves with the ball, the rotation would relatively appear to slow down. For example, the people on earth only see one side of the moon even though the moon is rotating on its own axis.
i thinks its awsome, i know i cant do it, but the one thing maybe u should edit a little bit more is the ball rolling on the ground, and instead of using a coutout of the ball, use the actual ball and throw it into the net
@1XMadcowX1 I agree. The video was really really good until the ball made it to the net. Then it really turned amateur as the ball didn't roll. If you fixed this, you'd be working on the next block buster! Well done and please fix!
Great job, you're a talented person there Cosmos Darwin. The ball looks incredible, I love how you used a pivot to film it, great idea. And the blur background is genius. Best YouTube effort Ive seen all day, and my job is looking for good after effects. Hey why not subscribe to my videos?
@holyshizzlefilms I find this infinitely amusing, everyone keeps telling me obvious things about my video, and almost without exception, they're wrong. The ball is real; I spun it on a pivot in front of a blue screen. See my demo reel, if you're really interested.
@CosmosDarwin it looks c.g becase its so sharp referred tho the background maybe blur it slighty and itsperfect! its a shame that you used a real ball but that it looks c.g.i
@GrahamCorlet- Lol, those are SLR cameras. They don't use high speed cameras on the whole rig, that would be crazy expensive. I know the effect can be done, just not with a high speed camera. No one does bullet time with high speed cameras. That's what I meant by the time-slice rig. The video you linked me is basically a time-slice rig, timed to let time progress slowly as the viewpoint orbits. That's why my sarcasm should have been obvious.
@GrahamCorlet - I know about that, but it can't be executed like in this video, that was part of the sarcasm. There is not a single person that can chase a fast object with a camera like that. High FPS cameras are always either stationary, or panning kinda fast (but the fast camera move looks slow on playback). For a guy to really record a ball like that, he would have to move the camera mega fast and focus super quickly. Only time slice rigs can do that.
Before I read the description of this vid, it looked as if the guy hit a lacrosse ball with a hockey stick. But, I guess the hockey road ball and a lax ball just look similar. Great job on the video!
Dude, like no joke, this is what got me into 3D work. For Jul. 2008 this is very original and EPIC! Keep it up and let the trolls come out of the closet on other videos.
@thekk2007 - No dud, this is actually real. I saw it on a documentary on the discovery channel about this guy that is rely good with cameras and can speed up the camera on the spot to record live bullet time shots. This is the real deal. Srsly, google it, I am not shitting you.
can someone help me make this effect because i have a physics project to do over a month and i really want to recreate this effect but with a shot put, so if anyone can help me please me.
The ball does have kind of weird edges, there's a slight blue tint, even. I've learned a lot since I did this clip two years ago. About the background, though, it's not a digital pan over a panoramic scene, I really did pivot the camera on a tripod. Hence the rough start/stop on the turn.
Also, i think the only thing i noticed was the background is still normal speed when blurred out, but still a couple billion times better than what i could do.
It made it over a year ago, so I have to agree at this point that its quite straight forward to see how I made it. The ball isn't a 3D model, though, I just filmed it spinning on a fixed axis. See my demo reel for insight.
No, I didnt know Andrew Kramer had one... I'll be sure to check it out. By the way I just noticed you're the guy with the sick choreography LS fight... I'm a big fan. :)

you should put some motion blur or some way of showing air pressure..

Awesome :) You should of added some silly unrealistic time distortion effects around the ball to make it seem more real lol If you know what i mean:)

background wasent screwd up. it was ment that the camera focus on the ball and if a camera does taht, then the background get like that
007super6 2 years ago
i meant how the ball blended with the background. If you notice, the ball has weird edges. You can also tell it's a panoramic scene.

Also, i think the only thing i noticed was the background is still normal speed when blurred out, but still a couple billion times better than what i could do.
Stephenlee5 2 years ago
Ball is obviously just one of those 3D images that spins. he just keyed everything into place. Added some blur and there you go, not very hard to do.
Shhadow74 2 years ago
It made it over a year ago, so I have to agree at this point that its quite straight forward to see how I made it. The ball isn't a 3D model, though, I just filmed it spinning on a fixed axis. See my demo reel for insight.

one little thing: the light on the ball has to change the angle when the camera is panning.
