so you've got all these homos criticizing this video. meanwhile for some reason this is the only comprehensive description of the camera on youtube. personally i appreciate the description, nobody's perfect. thanks.
Why the hell were you handling it like if it was your shitty webcam. You can learn how to open & close those panels nicely. Quit swingin' it around, you're gonna lose an eye.
Hello again, I recently purchased a Canon XL1s, The problem I have is that my laptop has no firewire port. I've been told that a firewire to usb lead will solve the problem. Do you know if there is any truth in that? any help or advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@pianoalien Hi there. I've been using the XL1 since 1998, a friends. I brought myself a second hand one in 2002 for £1600, I still have it. The quality is fantastic.
Learn your manual settings, shutter speed, iris etc You need to if you have no lighting rig set up.
Vids I've filmed with the XL1, feel free to check them out on my channel
@darrenpollard1st Thanks for the tips Darren, I have my recently purchased XL1s sitting here and I cant even start using it to start shooting my trailor, because my HP g70 laptop (running windows vista) doesn't have a firewire port. I've been told it would be better to invest in a mac, But they are very expensive, and i'm not sure which spec would be the best in terms of cpu/processor speed/ghz for best quality footage transderal. Do you use a mac? Any advise whould be greatly appreciated

I know It's mainly down to the skills and know how of the camera man.. but a good quality footage will really help.. also are you familiar with an XM2?? sorry for all the questions ..
Thanks, for the quick reply, I can't make up my mind between an XL1s and an XM2, I've never had either but have been reading up a lot about both, Lots of people really rate the XM2, others say the XL1s is just as good, but the XL1 (without the S) is good but not quite as good as the XM2, sorry if that sounds confusing lol.. I want to shoot a film trailor to promote my recently published book and post it on youtube etc, do you think the XL1s is up to the job and will help it look professional?
@spiker84 Hello, I'm about to buy an XL1 and just wondered if 7 months down the line that you are still Sooo Happy with yours.. if so why? e.g great picture quality etc.. if not happy .. why? Thanks ...
@pianoalien i still love it, it does have pretty good sound and picture quality, and you can hold it pretty stable while filming. the only downside is that if you are filming for a long period of time, it starts getting kindof uncomfortable to hold, so i suggest a shoulder pad or somthing. also, it tends to heat up after filming for awhile, but most cameras do, and its not like blazing hot either. if you decide to get one, you DEFIANTLY need a case to go with it.
Why do people comment on video's saying shit like "Dood get a life"... This "dood" just took however many hours out of his day to show assholes like you, for FREE, about this camera you may or may not be looking into buying. The only guy who needs a life here, is you. THANKS FOR THE VIDEO EXPOTV!!! I am about to get one of these and I'm just looking into them. Thanks again!
@robertwarner318 This isn't a budgeted production bro. The guy is giving you a FREE video talking about the camera. He already wasted hours of his day for you, and now you're bitching to waste more hours so you can have good audio? You can understand what he's saying. This isn't Shindler's List. It's a review. You want him to find a producer to get funding and make you an Epic Review? Just for you? Get a life dood...
i have just bought this camera, i am problems with the sound, has really bad hissing and buzzs when near lights, what can i do to stop this?? im new to these cameras. what does all this 24fp stuff mean and how can i acheive it?????? confused jason uk
Usually the higher end more professional cameras do not come with lcd screen. These are made more for professional use rather than your average consumer.
well im not sure but you didnt talk about the Ae button in the center and im not going to tell you your audio sucked every one else did 4 me but you would think that a guy that knew about video would make dam sure his video had aleast good audio
DO NOT GET THE XL1s. IT SUCKS. the new canon hd cams the hfs100, hv20/30/40, hfs10 are amazing and destroy this cam. They have everything the xl1s had in control and more. They have full manual control. A 1/2.5 cmos sensor with even shallower dof. a 1.8 lens. iso control. zebras at 100 and 70, tapeless avchd at 24mbps (with hv cam it is hdv tape), color peaking and color bars. I used to have an xl1s and its quality was horrible. The hfs100 competes very well with cams in the 2k to 5k range.
I hate to knock anybody on their effort but "DUDE" what's up with the sound on this I thought I had my speakers up too high but it wasn't me it was you.
Whatever micraphone you used was terrible it got to the point that I had to stop watching.
Better luck next time, oh and you missed the firewire port for downloading the finished footage to your computer under the digital video output on the side.
part 2... As i can see the guy has no clue how to set up the microphome correctly. if he'd went to shoot some footage his left sounds would be his up sounds because its in the wrong possition. it has to be level and the cable from the microphone must be vertically on the top.
This kind of equipment should never be handeled like this, so people who might try to learn something from this terrible review never be so tareless and handle with care....
first of all the guy has no respect for the professional and expensive object and seems clueless about what he s talking about...
There is no detailed explanation on how to set up the camera correctly and safely. the eye piece is such a easily damageble part you should never direct it to sun light and never never take off the outter part unless if you really need to.
Hey, cool walk through for the camera, didn't really learn much i was hoping for a review etc etc.
Helpful to pre-buyers i guess.
One point i want to make is, when you mention about the light, it's not for when you buy an external light for the cam, it's just a light button for when you want check your audio levels in the dark, the two screens light up when you press it.
I don't see anywhere on the video or in the description where he says that it was supposed to be a review. It's obviously more of a walkthrough or explanation of the camera.
Please check the video respond to see the XL1S result, i just finished Documentary, Drama feature film on Drugs, for Hong Kong Government, which is shot only on XL1S with no extra lens.
that's not really a review! you're only saying what the buttons and the "rolling devices" are for. lol. hope to see a better one next time, and pleeeease, stop hitting the camera!
Wow, you do not shit about the Canon XL1 or XL1s. "Thingy", huh? Hey man, here is an idea, why do you not slam around a 3-4 thousand dollar camcorder. Another idea, try recording yourself onto a better camcorder so you do not reverb.
i was connecting my xl1s to my computer using my dv output to my computers dv input...my new computer has ieee/firewire inputs...please help me...what exact cable do i need to buy
It would be great if you could re-render this with some filtering on the audio track. The harsh peaking from the overblasted audio track is *really* hard to listen to.
