  • So the auto loader works while the barrel is elevated? As in the whole thing moves?

  • Where does the spent casing go?

  • @Sphynra i think the casing flies out with the shell, and the cartridge, the red thing, gets stored somewhere.

  • The only reason to use autoloaders today is in UAV's or the new UTV's which is the next generation tank to be made. no human makes the whole design easier to manage and cheaper to mass produce.

  • Author should correct the title. Autoloader of T-90 is not the same with T-72. As it was noticed several times by other users already, this is an autoloader from T-72.

  • T-72BU and the T-90 those are one of most the finest pieses of military equipement

the 90 is tought agile, acurate, and its equiped with the sistem shtora and the at-11 "sniper" (otan designation) THERES NOTHING BETER THAN RUSSIAN TANKS.

  • T-72/80/90 has the same gun => same autoloaders

  • @Scoutrussp7 no...almost every model has it own gun... t-72 versions use 3 different main guns: 2A26M2, 2A46M and 2A46. t-80 uses 2A46-M ... t 90:2A46M1 (all 125mm)

  • @Scoutrussp7 There are 7 different variants of 2A46 gun. The very first one appeared with T-64A and T-72A in 1970. Do you really believe that they use same gun on 3 different models, with 3 different autoloaders for 40 years?! Anyhow, some versions of this gun are different only in breech mechanism... exactly because of different autoloader. So your conclusion "same gun = same autoloader" is absolutely wrong.

    ...

  • @Scoutrussp7 ...

Furthermore, just FYO, the latest versions 2A46M-4 and 2A46M-5 for T-80UM and T-90A have following differences with early 2A46-1 version:

    Thermal sleeve

    Chromium liner

    Quick-change barrel mechanism

Recoil devices are now symmetrical instead of asymmetrical

Barrel life is increased from 700 rounds to 1200 rounds

Max chamber pressure is also increased from 5100bar to 6500bar

The latest versions of this gun can fire high-energy APFSDS, which early versions couldn't.

  • @patrikasLTL

From Global Security "To further improve the T-72's export prospects and its chances of being selected as Russia's sole production MBT, the T-80U's more sophisticated fire control system was also added to produce a vehicle designated T-72BU. Finally, since worldwide news coverage during Desert Storm had firmly established the image of the T-72 as a burning Iraqi tank, the new model was renamed T-90."

Honestly, its not a bad thing. The T-72 is a solid design with a great main gun.

  • The T-90 is just a renamed T-72BU

  • why is the charge and shell 2 seperate pieces?

  • i am asking mysefl the same question..... I saw it already separate, but i thought you put them in loader in one piece.... :S

  • Because the round if it was one piece would be too long for the whole mechanism. Just look at the model, and picture the charge and projectile one after the other. Too long for the existing mechanism and creating a bigger autoloader would need a whole new hull design that wouldn't fit the given dimensions, weight and tactical-technical conditions given by the contractor aka MoD.

  • Comment removed

  • i have no idea...it's the Russians. *shrug*

  • Goldrag says:

    T-72 not T-90

  • ggkiler says:

the t-72 and T-90 have the same autoloader mechanize

  • @ggkiler

    They do not

T-90 autoloader is different because of the different hull type

  • @adrastea99 autoloader is based on turrets interior layout & design, not hull, but it is basically an upgraded T72, which is a cheap version of a good T64 and T80.

  • Goldrag says:

    T-72 not T-90
