I guess Mie & Kei never really bothered to seriously learn English. They recorded 'Kiss' phonetically. Hit #37 in Billboard. How'd it do in Japan? God bless!
This invasion happened back in the late 1970's and they WERE the number one recording act in 1978. I still love and miss them very much. I wish they had never left us here in the U.S. I for one wanted to keep them.
I LOVED this song when it was out, but now looking back it's hard to see why. I've watched some of their Japanese hits and it's kind of hard to see what all the hubbub was about. I remember seeing this when it was on TV.
@disneyfan81 Anime's another matter. I know it has a huge market around the world. It's probably the best way japanese artists get good foreign exposure. I don't recall hearing pink lady in anime films but it's possible.
What an AWESOME find, although the end is a little inane. Not a huge hit, but, again, great disco at a time when that was what we wanted! We actually played this at our wedding when my wife, good sport that she was, asked me to have the DJ,on the band's breaks, play an international block of songs- you can't get any more international than Japanese! Thanks a milion JeffB1959!
rayva1: There had been questions about whether those were Mie and Kei's voices or if that had been an early case of "Milli Vanilli" disease, but yeah, it was them.
It is only Pink Lady and seiko.matsuda with kyu.sakamoto which it sang music called sukiyaki in elsewhere that was in the Billboard100 rank with a Japanese
Leif was my idol back when I was about 13 to 15 years old!!! Too bad he wasn't smart enough to manage his own career.. Now he looks like any guy who's on parole or probation :(
Groovy special effects, *lol*! I love Pink Lady so much... If only they'd gotten more of a chance to perform here. Bring them back to the US now! I wish they let them sing instead of lip sync, but oh well. SUCH a cute little thing at the end with Leif guy... "THANK YOU!" <3
Yet another example of just how strange the Japanese are.
